Equipment:
Avalon 741 ,Evga 1300w g2(I use the EVGA Detection Tool as the paper clip),Ras pi3,and auc3 converter.

HagssFIN found the power used to be 1382W here - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/reviewguide-avalonminer-741-73-ths-1150w-bitcoin-sha-256-asic-miner-2588105
You may want to try a larger PSU as the EVGA could be struggling to power the 741.

@Didley1JT -The miner is only on for maybe 4minutes at a time. I start it up, the fan starts/stops.. all the lights look correct. The blue light is on and its mining. (well getting pennies added to the wallet)
I'm getting use to the Openwrt/Avalon software, xD I don't see the temp reading for the miner. The temp (since I'm testing indoors) is room-temp around 70/72. I have my own fan/ac units that would cool it, also a place for equipment on my balcony (30 below outside) if I can get the fan working.
I adjusted the fan speed to 50 and (default is 10) nothing happens.

@Steamtyme- Where do I find the sou log? I added the request to canaan. I believe, I'm having the same issue as Toughits, if the fan is the problem and not the pi3 firmware then idc to just buy a new fan. Within just a few minutes of having the miner on (4 or 5) the Avalon 741 gets extremely... warm/hot.

Equipment:
Avalon 741 ,Evga 1300w g2(I use the EVGA Detection Tool as the paper clip),Ras pi3,and auc3 converter. Using nicehash pool to mine < also how I verify it does work for a few moments before getting hot.

Thanks for the replies.

I finally got the 741 configured and mining... only for moments. I'm glad to see that mine is actually working.
However, my issue seem exactly like Toughits. My fan doesn't seem to work. The fan tries to work on start-up, but stops.
(opened a ticket already with canaan)
Should I just buy a new fan? Is it the Rasp Pi 3 controller issue?

Thanks for the help. So close to start Asic mining >.<...

Can you post your API log and your miner status, when it is running and then again after it has shut off to compare.

It just seems weird that the fan runs then stops all together.

In your ticket to Canaan you can ask them about opening the case to make sure the fan cable isn't loose. But like any product under warranty get permission first.

Also give them all info required they are really good about getting parts sent out quickly depending on how busy they are.

How long do you leave it mining and what temp do the cards get up to? How cold is it where you live?

Finally, set the minimum fan speed to like 20% so it shouldn’t ever turn all the way off.

I've logged into the Avalon controller but no, I haven't specifically added a pool. I've hooked everything up. From the setup video I've seen, the fan/Avalon should power on and run even without mining. I've let it run for a short amount of time just minutes maybe 10-15, the fan starts and stops repetitively. I turned it off because the Avalon was beginning to get warm/hot.

So definitely enter your pool info then it will actually run and keep the fan speed up as needed. The fan is variable speed so without making the chips work it will cycle like you were saying. The miner will get warm but you can monitor the temps from your miner status page in the advanced view, you just change the theme from the main page when you first log in.

First you need to enter a pool to mine from so the miner will ramp up.
When you click on advance on the controller main page you can find this tab on the top:

The yellow allows you to adjust the fan speed.

Hi,

Trying to get my avalon 741 running. I've watched the setup videos ect. My psu is the evga 1300w g2 (recommended for U.S. outlet 120/240v). The psu is on its own outlet, avalons boards are green light, AUC3 is geen & blue, the top light on the avalon is blue(goes yellow/green sometimes).

PROBLEM:My fan on the avalon starts and stops. Maybe a power issue? Bad fan ?

Any help is appreciated! ~Thanks

It will turn it off if it's not needed. Is it running? You can log into the miner and set the minimum percent power on the fan. If you're in a cool climate, try 10%.

Does it completely stop? How much time are you waiting as there is a ramp up period.

Do you have your pool information entered into the controller?

Just received a shipment from avalon, it was supposed to contain a new fan.

Instead the package has a fan shroud!

2.5 weeks down on a brand new miner.

Another good candidate for a replacement fan:

Personally, I am not a fan of the integrated PSU.  PSUs go bad- that is the nature of the beast.  Now when one craps out- the whole unit is dead vs being able to swap it out in 30 seconds.

The front of the unit comes off and there are two terminals  to wire a PSU  into the device  in case the  internal PSU  craps
    out.

This was my biggest concern. PSUs  tend to be less reliable than the miners, so it was imperative that if the Integrated PSU craps out that we be able to quickly supply power from an external one.  Basically 2 screws and your there.

After a few months in the field  I'll have revised in field failure rates of the integrated PSU.

For now I'm restricting sales of the 761 ( it sold out ) so I can monitor closely..  Later in 2018  there will be an 861

Thanks for that information.  I have had 3 HP PSUs crap out this month but miners are working no problem.  Good to know there is an easy fix to the internal PSU issue.

Does anyone know if these A8 can comingle on the same controller as A741 or do they need their own?
The only difference between these miners appears to be the number of chips on each hash board.
(With exception of the A8 integrated power supply)

I don't believe the A8 model has an integrated power supply.  The last Chinese-only version of the A7 apparently did, but I don't see the same verbiage in the description of the A8.  Feel free to correct me.

You are correct. I think it was a copy paste issue from when they put up the 761, and bare bones description of the A8 information.

So don't go selling those power supplies yet

Yep My fuck up. cut and past issue

my fuck up.  I copied the text for the 761 to the 8 series and forgot to remove the integrated PSU

821, 841  no integrated PSU
861  integrated
921  no integrated

Not sure how I feel about the integrated PSU feature...I share the same concerns of other posters here. While the performance increase could be more than worth it, what exactly happens when it breaks? I would assume we continue to enjoy the same warranty plan, but do you need to ship the entire unit back?

When I bought my 741 I purposely did not get it with the factory sorcerer PSU because 1) I wasn't sure it would work with my outlets 2) if it broke I would have to deal with the manufacturer of a nobrand chinese power supply.

Compare to buying brands like Corsair or EGVA on Amazon/Walmart where returning your lemon is just a click away.

Excited to see/hear more from Canaan! Thanks for the updates everyone

when it breaks.  Check back on older threads here and you'll see that was my concern.
Bottom line:  You remove the front panel. There are two terminals where you can attach an external PSU
   and bypass  the internal.

I'm guessing the 761 is just for them to use up their inventory of the old chips.

nope.  761 has been on the roadmap  through all of 2017.
