Just curious to see what the status of orders are:

1) The people claiming they've received Batch 2 Avalons - When did you place your orders?

2) Are there still a lot of people with order status: Processing?  My order has been on that since February 18th when I ordered it, curious how far back the orders go with that same status.

I placed my order on the morning of Feb 2, 2013 and paid ~12 hours later on pure faith that everything would work out by digging through my history to find the portal token and utilizing that to finish payment.  Some things to note though:  I confirmed all details with walletbit, then created a ticket with all pertinent information in the Avalon support system.  I never received any response to my tickets, but I did receive a confirmation e-mail from the Avalon team regarding my order which matched all my details.  Otherwise I opened one other ticket as per the request of Bitsyncom re: not having my order showing in the store.  I did not receive any response to that ticket either.  Through a rough analysis I estimate my payment was the ~34th unit paid.

Personally I think there is some selective practices going on behind the scenes to determine the order in which the units were shipped, however I'll fore go posting the details that I assume to have been at play in this.

I wouldn't get too paranoid about them selectively shipping stuff. I'm sure shipping stuff from 'some place in China' is highly variable thing. Two packages beside each other in shipping could end up in completely different parts of your country in their big circuitous world tour getting to you.

Just a quick word on the politics and definition of bitcoins. I believe it would be very wise not to call bitcoin a currency. Bitcoin is a token. You buy this token with currency and in the end it is sold back for currency. It cannot exist without a currency behind it so it is not a currency per se. I think it would be very wise to start thinking of BTC as a TOKEN. Just my 0.02 tokens Smiley

I hope that they have some model, that they have insider info from bfl/helveticminer/100th and that somehow in that model the roi of these units is positive. This is my only hope.

I have my suspicions that this is fairly close to the truth.

I think that noone here said it was a bs... If you need money fast your best option is to sell shares of the Avalon and cash out (maybe 100-125btc). If you wait until it arrives, you can sell it for 150-200, I guess.

I personally have no faith in the roi of these units, I'm not sure about anything anymore... I can only hope that when Avalon decided to delay to mine themselves they somewhat knew what would happen to the difficulty, I hope that they have some model, that they have insider info from bfl/helveticminer/100th and that somehow in that model the roi of these units is positive. This is my only hope.

What evidence do you have that they mined with these machines?

There is no evidence.  The dust and delay definitely makes me wonder, but the cynical bastards are just yelling something about the sky falling.

I saw a message. "We've delivered your order"

Then.. reality sunk in. I felt like I got slow rolled.

Ordered mine on 2nd Feb, still have nothing showing up on my order page.

So much for special people getting theirs early. My mum said I was special, but no early Avalon.

The reason nzhang has to hire a security detail is due to the perception in China that he is raking it in, not necessarily due to the fact.

In our hallway conversation with Yifu after his talk, I believe he mentioned that Batch 2 was a break even to money losing proposition (someone else who was there can confirm).  This was why the price of Batch 3 went up.  SMT lines aren't cheap.

In the hallway gathering, I believe he said they lost money on Batch 1 and with Batch 2, it covered their losses and got them over.  Saw two to three people record parts of the hallway conversation, hopefully someone will upload it to youtube.

It seems to be cycling on and off and the yellow light goes off.
I haven't checked the reference design docs yet, but my empirical understanding is that the yellow light (being on) indicates that the ASICs have no work.  (Specifically, I imagine the controller board is out of work to give them).  If that light is coming on a lot, your machine is going to under-perform.

As for cycling on and off, since the yellow light is coming on, then indeed the unit is slowing down its fans because there's less heat being generated.  That said, when you finally do get the units running smoothly, you should still hear a little cycling of the fans.  Mine rev up and down slightly every couple minutes.

As for solving the dread yellow light, you'll need to figure out why the modules are running out of work.  Either A) the pool isn't giving enough work, or B) the software is glitching and constantly restarting.  Pull up your Cgminer Status and check Elapsed Time in the upper left.  If that is consistently below 30 minutes, then the software is glitching and being restarted.  Let me know if that's the case and I can post more steps to diagnose that.  If Elapsed Time looks good, look at the pool stats to see what's up.  Probably try other pools, check your local network connection, wifi, etc.

It seems to be cycling on and off and the yellow light goes off.  I think I need to check the firmware.  Slush's pool says 27 GHs.  Not sure if all the modules are firing or if it just takes time for Slush's pool stats to catch up.

In my experience it usually takes time for a pool to give you an accurate hashing rate.

After 2 months of delay where their customers lost 200+btc per Avalon?

You did not lose them.  You never had them.

As ProfMac, I could insert the obligatory Robert Burns quote here.
Yes. You are right. Bravo. Lost earnings are not lost money. Going from a positive to negative return is normal, Bravo again.
