I doubt something will change for coinmarketcap even if Binance exchange buys it.
I stopped using it long ago and switched to Coingecko and other alternative wesbites,
and I don't understand why people still use it, other than pure habit.
i totally agree, mostly it's just a habit for people, they got used to Coinmarketcap just like i was, but after trying coingecko a couple of times i noticed that it's faster for me and i like their interface more, i recommend coinmarketcap users to try coingecko and the Op if he still reading this, i doubt new competitors could be better.

Well not sure now that any other platform could beat coinmarketcap that has been officially acquired by binance.  Is the competition ended just like that? I guess so.
We can never tell, Binance is already big but they didn't stop, they try to improve their project and they don't only limit to their exchange, and that is good especially for the investors.

God never crossed in my mind to build something like that seriously.. I mean to gather information and put it all at once in certain website .. wait a couple years and sell it for 400 million us dollar.
Man I know it's not that simple lol.
That's how popular CMC is to be valued at $400 million but these guys when starting up is not even sure if their site will be popular like now, like investors who invested in bitcoin who are not sure if they can be profitable in the long run.
Typical capitalist...

They could build their own crypto kingdom soon ,
Biggest exchange ✅
Biggest crypto price-tracking web ✅

No chance for new cmc competitor at least for now.

That's their goal and they have just waited this very opportunity because Binance has been dominating the market already and they are so profitable.
Expanding is the best way to keep their business stronger, in fact I believe even if the market will struggle, Binance will still remain profitable, just like when they achieve a new ATH last year.

There is a thread here that says Binance wants to buy Coinmarketcap for $400 million, it' a jackpot deal for Coinmarketcap it';s not really that expensive to set up a site like Coinmarketcap and all they have to do is to allocate funds for marketing and they can even beat Coinmarketcap and all the other with their marketing.

Yes, coinmarketcap are demanding this huge price for this site because it is a popular site and they want to take full advantage of this by selling it at the highest price. Do you know if that deal was finalized or it was just a false news ?

Damnn is it really worth 400 million usd ? That's crazy.
The payment could possibly be in BNB ? Well that's a disaster if let's say so.

Information is really expensive these days isn't it?
Good job Brandon .

lol crazy indeed . 400 usd for a freakin website man wtf   ? thats too much i guess and i were the owner i think i will not doubt imediatly  .
you forgot to add million, yes.. that is 400 million usd, that's too expensive due to the traffic CMC has generated, they are like the facebook in social media, so Binance would certainly not gonna spend that much if they are not sure it will benefit them.

the only matter here is the repuation that they already built but cmc isnt really perfect that much but infact cmc even recieved negative feedbacks too   .  so not really a big dead to drop the site and make a new one that is nearly perfect and clean from negative trust/feedbacks  mainly manipulation   .  they badly need to correct those next time if ever   .

No platform is perfect, under Binance management, maybe they can improve it, but the fact that they are visited by millions of people, that says a lot of people trust their information.

Of course some sites could offer better features but what makes CMC retain its standing is because their site looks simple and that is very helpful especially to the newbies, some sites like coingecko is good also but I would still prefer CMC as I get use to it and all information i need are all here.

You have 'all the information' that is wrong.
Just look at all that scam exchanges that are on top in that crap market cap webite.
Habits are here to be changed.

People are familiar with Coinmarketcap's interface and is the one that started this market cap graph, they have established loyal supporters I am one of them, but there are also some sites that offer better features but I'm not leaving Coinmarketcap, I prefer to include the others for comparison, we actually need at least three for better comparison on the price.

it IS expensive to reach coinmarketcap status. and they are currently earning a lot of money from their popularity from the advertisements they post on their website to all the ICO scams they endorsed and all the control they have on which coins be on their arbitrary list of coins.
i am skeptical about the number you reported here but it makes sense that Binance is trying to increase their influence on the altcoin market more. they have been centralizing things for a long time now.

especially if you do understand that cmc was lacking a lot of popularity lately
I mean you can check by yourself just by googling basic trading pairs and cmc is not in top 5 most of the time

I'v found a upcoming website which also offers life prices, like Coinmarketcap. The website looks more appealing to me as it has a fresh and young look. I like the idea that I am not supporting one of the bigger players. Let me know if you also like this website: https://www.coinranker.net

It's hard to beat a stable and a site that is not an investment site and has been running for a long time, many people are very much accustom and familiar with Coinmarketcap and all the other new sites are just imitating Coinmarketcap but it's better to have more like this platform for better comparison, there are coins that are listed in Coinmarketcap but already lited in Coingecko.

It's a challenge to the same platform is CMC is not bitcoin in the market, it will always stay at the number 1, CMC might only be outdated and will be replace by its competitors in ranking if they themselves will leave the site and that is not gonna happen as they are making money with it.

as of Feb 2020, CMC is rank number 18 with 37 million total visits.  https://www.similarweb.com/website/coinmarketcap.com#overview
while coingecko.com only has 8 million total visits - https://www.similarweb.com/website/coingecko.com
