I don't think there are really competitors other than neo.Yes there seems to be lot of people who really likes EOS but I still did not see its benefit or its future implications.I just see a platform that even having a wallet is hard if you don't pay directly.A platform that seems to be popular because the people who happen to get a lot of wallets free, used scatter and got a ton of money in a very short time.If you know how to work it and have time it is a good platform.But I think it is not for everyone, everyday user and thats why I don't think in the long run it can be a competitor for eth.
NEO or XLM could catch ETH too - they can be really good basement for ICOs and exchanges. 2018 is year of ICOs and whose platform will be the strongest we will see.
As for me, the closest and real competitor for Ethereum is EOS. This project is actively developing and can become very popular.

I think that Ethereum is NEO and EOS worthy competitors. Because these coins have taken a good and fast course to raise. Adequate competition is always good. This creates stable and strong coins in the market.
The best competitor could be EOS, NEO or ADA, they three of them look really promising, though they don't look like are worth for short term, but are more for a long term if thats what you prefer.
