Below, I'll be previewing and prediction several matches, including the headline fights.
Miocic vs. Cormier PredictionMain Event – Champion Miocic (-106) vs #1 Cormier (-115)
This will be the third fight between these two heavyweights in the last two years. In July 2018, Daniel Cormier was able to KO Miocic in the first round. That fight was marred in controversy, as the KO came shortly after a Cormier eye-poke. They re-matched in August of 2019, with Cormier getting the better of the exchanges in the first few rounds. Miocic was able to make adjustments and worked the body of Cormier, knocking him out in the 4th Round. We now have the third fight to finally settle this between them.
Stipe Miocic (19-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) is a well-rounded fighter with excellent boxing and well above-average wrestling. He has very good cardio, for a heavyweight, and has gone 5 rounds multiples times. He has an exceptional IQ and has proven to be able to make adjustments, like in his last fight with Cormier. He holds the record for most UFC Heavyweight title defenses at 3 and has fought the best in the division for years. He has impressive victories over Roy Nelson, Mark Hunt, Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem, Junior Dos Santos, Francis Ngannou, and Daniel Cormier.
Daniel Cormier (22-2, 1 No Contest, MMA, 11-2, 1 No Contest, UFC) is also a multi-faceted fighter. His fighting background goes back to his days as an Olympic wrestler, where he finished 4th in the 2004 Olympics. After his wrestling career, Cormier transitioned to MMA where he very quickly developed his striking. He started his career as a Heavyweight in Strikeforce, going undefeated at 11-0. When he transitioned over to the UFC, he switched to light heavyweight, due to his friend Cain Velasquez fighting at Heavyweight. At light heavyweight, he had tremendous success, though he always seemed to be second fiddle to Jon Jones, losing to him twice. He did have 2 reigns as Light heavyweight champion but that always had an asterisk due to Jon Jones out of competition problems. He finally moved back up to Heavyweight in 2018, challenging Miocic and by knocking him out, when he finally got a claim to a championship that wasn't just due to Jon Jones absence.
Prediction- Based on the first two fights between the two, I believe that Cormier is the better overall fighter. I expect him to use more of his Olympic wrestling background to control Miocic for longer stretches and to wear him out. The pick is Cormier by TKO in round 3.
O'Malley vs Vera#14 Sean O'Malley (-312) vs Marlon Vera (+239)
Sean O'Malley (12-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is an action-packed fighter, and the UFC thinks highly of him, by giving him the Co-Main slot. He has excellent striking and has 8 Knockouts in his 12 wins. His last 2 performances have been convincing with 2 highlight reel wins in the first round.
Marlon Vera (15-6-1 MMA, 9-5 UFC) has taken a much different path than O'Malley. He had a rough start to his UFC career, splitting his first 8 fights going 4-4. Since then, Vera has shown tremendous improvement, winning 5 of his last 6 fights. His 1 loss was mired on controversy, as most media members believed he did enough to win the fight. He has been a slow starter in his fights but has found ways to come back in round 2 or 3 to get the victory. He is dangerous on both the feet and the ground
Prediction – This is an interesting matchup. The UFC obviously is trying to push O'Malley here, with the co-main slot, but is it too soon. for him O'Malley is still unproven and Vera is his hardest test by far. My prediction is that Vera will overcome a slow start in round 1, and up getting a win by submission in round 2.
Dos Santos (+120) vs Rozenstruik (-147)Junior Dos Santos (21-7 MMA, 15-6 UFC) is a former UFC Heavyweight champion that has been around the block. He has fought the who's who of the heavyweight division for the last decade. Dos Santos has very crisp boxing and has proven durable over the years. He does appear to be slowing down, whoever, as he has been knocked out in his last 2 fights.
Jairzinho Rozenstruik (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is a powerful striker that is relatively new to MMA. He was an accomplished kick-boxer, including 85 matches with 76 knockouts on his resume. Since his transition to MMA and the UFC he has a had a great deal success. He has shown significant power, with 4 knockouts in his 4 UFC wins.
Prediction – Dos Santos is on the downswing of his career and his ability to take a shot has definitely been in question. The pick is that Rozenstruik will use his power and KO Dos Santos in round 1
