The market will not succeed if it becomes too cumbersome in terms of operation and design.

OpenBazaar has already done that quite well. Easy integration of photos, as much and as big as you want them to be. Appealing design of the shop.
However, there is still a lot missing to really become a competition to the well-known Fiat markets...

Thank you for the prompt answer.
I see it on the website right now. Runs across the marketplace.

I should really get closer to the project. Here one seems to have rather the use in the focus.

I am very curious about the market place. I look at it as soon as it runs on Linux again and photos are no longer a problem.

You can post photos with the listings. For the platform to be decentralized it would be odd to have photo hosting. For now it just puts the image on fpaste and compresses it however the photo can be sent over bitmessage too. Of course a user can link more photos. I realize in 2018 people want tons of media but that is the trade off when making something completely decentralized I suppose more photos can go on fpaste or imgur in the future.

As for Linux it's on my list of things to do when I finish testing the exchange peg code.

BitBay are pleased to announce you can now buy BAY with euros at https://www.bitladon.com/bitbay
Bitladon is the international website of the Dutch broker Bitcoin Meester and they make it quick and easy to buy BAY!
An exchange via a third party is out of the question for me.

When will Bitbay be listed in BISQ?
Optimal as a base currency.
Even more optimal if BISQ could be integrated into your wallet, i.e. with BAY as base currency.
(one will probably still be allowed to dream...)

BISQ uses 3rd party escrow and is very risky. There is no reason to do that because users can buy BitBay in the wallet itself totally peer to peer risk free using 2 party escrow. The wires are secured by deposits and users simply do their own KYC since it's peer to peer and private contracts where BitBay takes no fees. For users without deposits the seller at a minimum puts a small deposit in a guarantor contract to let another user buy his first coins.

There is no escrow, servers or middlemen that's the major advantage.

It's 11/11 the 4 year anniversary of BitBay. Congrats to the team and cheers to the investors. Let's make 2019 our best year yet.

Well so I'm pretty much finished with the Python version of the exchange code. So I just have to test it and then give it to anoxy so he can start getting the demo exchange ready. Then once that is successful we will have a very strong proposal for exchanges. Although we will need a lot of the community to help test the demo exchange and do some trades because it will give us some great feedback on the user experience of the peg. We will also need to wait for Yshurik to convert the code to c++ so it's faster. He has made a lot of progress on converting the Python peg so far and when he finishes that he will work on the exchange code. But we can still test in the meantime.

Soon...

Well said, but without the possibility to make your own offer visually attractive, the project will fail, or just address a tiny small fringe group.

I agree Thul, images are very important factor for a marketplace to be successful. First impressions are important and images help to tell the story about items and get the buyer interested.

The new BitBay web marketplace alpha is online now and we have people testing it and giving us feedback as we build and release new features. If you'd like to join us then I can send you an invite. Just email me at [email protected] and I'll get it arranged.

The web marketplace will be an 'easy-button' version of the amazing software that David has built, enabling users to buy / sell with a few clicks on mobile or desktop and not have to sync the blockchain etc. It will also feature the unique 'unbreakable smart contracts' that David developed, allowing for users to buy and sell anything with no 3rd party involved.

The alpha is in an early stage but I still invite you to come and see what we're working on. Your feedback would be very welcome  Wink

Just orientate yourself on the possibilities of established markets (Amazon, ebay, ...) then nothing can go wrong.  Wink

The goal is to be better.
And this should already be possible with a range of products and services that does not exist on the regulated, centralized markets.

I’ve been staking most of my BAY at Btcpop.co so I can trade at the same time.
Oh, and being part of a pool  =  faster payouts.
And I can finally turn my laptop off.
Rewards might even be higher with

Thanks,
Shorn.

Great article. Thanks for posting. Bay is moving a great turn of pace now that most other projects I follow would be jealous of.

Just one thing..

first line says As we are already a dew few

is dew few an expression or a typo?

Thanks for spotting that Cryptohunter! It was indeed a typo that crept in somehow ...

No problem, great article though as usual.

However, I have read a lot of your posts on the Byteball thread and for sure you make a lot of very good points and seem like a very smart person. So I'm glad to hear your views on bitbay too. I hope David will be back soon to answer your other points and  debate the best ways to develop a decentralised marketplace.

I am not saying you are wrong but I am saying I can not see that your argument follows as you say it will. I could be wrong.

bitbay is the best solution to date that I have found. I think you will too if you look into it.

With Byteball I slowly lose my patience. I fear that will be nothing more...

"The best solution", that sounds very good. I like to have a look at it when it runs again.

I always evaluate the various crypto projects from the point of view of my customers, and in this respect Byteball was once very promising:
- a cross-platform, uniform Lightwallet
- no need to load the blockchain
- simple switchable routing via TOR
- a completely anonymous, untraceable currency
- problem-free scaling (at least it should be like this at some point)

That's it, then. Further requirements that would be important from the user's point of view are ignored by the developer. A roadmap that shows where the project is heading does not exist.

I would be very happy if Bitbay would be an exception here. One essential point stands out: The developer is dialogable, and above all he orients himself in an important and decisive direction. - Especially here KYC Byteball can't keep up.

I have scoured bitcointalk for years. There is no other developer like David Zimbeck that i have located. His communication with the community and his work ethic combined are at least 2x or even greater than  the next best developers of other projects that I have tested.
Also if you ask him any technical questions regarding most things in this entire arena he will know quite a bit about it.

Anyway you will discover this is true if you stick around and investigate things further over time.

Of course keep your eye on many projects to see which will fit your needs the best.

Have to add my support for what you said about David, he is a rare find. Someone with integrity who does what he says he will and has the skill to pull it off is a rare thing indeed in these waters. If David says it is so, than count on it.
