Due to all the excitement earlier, I'm behind on my housecleaning.

Thank you for honoring your pledge, BitcoinBug. Your donation has been duly noted in the OP.
The following charity already accepts bitcoin:
http://epicchange.org/Since they made the decision already perhaps we should add our support and make them our first bitcoin100 charity.
(or if not here is their donation address for anyone interested 1QDFQ4EyxYcZStuhgSDiNk3eQUNcUKkWrs

Edit - from the blockchain they've already been doing this since November 2010! I wish I'd seen them sooner
The point of the Bitcoin100 is to get major charities to accept Bitcoin. I don't think we should use this project to fund charities that already accept Bitcoin. That doesn't mean people shouldn't donate to this particular charity, I hope everyone checks it out and donates if their cause is worth it.
I think Technomage addressed this issue fairly well, dancupid. What is important, though, is that we continue to spotlight those charities that have so gracefully included a Bitcoin donation option on their websites. During the brainstorming period of
Biitcoin100, I thought about creating, then maintaining, a list of charitable organizations that have already attached that option to their sites, albeit I've failed to mention it, to date, in any posts on this thread. It is in my notes, so consider this the first mention of this idea. It should prove to be a good talking point once the list is published in the OP rewrite. Another charity that comes to mind is
Amani Kinderdorf of which I've personally donated to. Last, but not least, any charities mentioned here:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade#Charity. Last, but not least, again, please provide any and all found by mentioning them on this thread so that they can be include on the list that's forthcoming.
We can thank bwagner for causing all the excitement today. Further mentions of Regretsy forthcoming after this much needed housecleaning.
This charity is currently very prominently visible on the internet. Reddit is all over it, and it's been crossposted a lot.
If we can get this to accept bitcoin AND are able to make a significant donation before the internet's ADHD kicks in, this would make bitcoin very visible.
This is exactly what this project is made for. I think we should act on this fast and make it the first Bitcoin100 charity. And when I mean fast, I don't mean next week. Let's do it now.
+1 agree, 1 bitcoin sent
Thank you kindly for honoring your pledge, paraipan. My only concern is that you didn't do such with the hope that this pool was destined for Regretsy. Although it's not outside the realm of possibility, things have changed since you'd posted your pledge. Nevertheless, the OP has been updated reflecting your contribution.
I put up a link here:
http://bitcoinx.com/charts/Mostly this thread has been in the top10 posts anyway but we still need some 30 supporters.
Thank you kindly for the link, phelix. It's much appreciated. We need, and will get, at least 30 new supporters to reach the first goal of
Bitcoin100 having
at least 100 initial pledgers. I figured we'll need no less than 314 supporters to maintain us as we fledge.
*Frantically scrambles around to assemble 1 BTC out of various leftovers in various wallets
Heh, I had just sold nearly all of my bitcoins in a nice opportunity.
Nevertheless, I managed to produce 1 BTC
First major drawback for Bitcoin: When amassing BitCents, one can't look under the sofa cushions.
Thank you also, BTCurious, for honoring part of your pledge. The OP has been updated (take a gander).
This is a great initiative.
I'm in (1 BTC / CO up to 20 BTC total).
Thank you kindly for your pledge, minorman. Remember, you can honor 1 BTC at any time, towards any allocated charity, with or without stating you've done so. It's all based on the honor system, but if you do state that you've honored a pledge, I'll update the list of supporters stating such.
This concludes the housecleaning. Now on to providing feedback pertaining to
Regretsy of which has a nice article on its homepage by a guess writer I'd first seen on The Daily Show the other day (one of the few shows I watch, and do so on the computer--been over a year since I've watched a real TV and there's 5 of those SOBs in this house).
