I don’t remember crypto being talked about in the Trump vs. Biden debate. I doubt that it will come up when Trump debates Harris. Crypto will not be the deciding issue that determines the election, but with the amount of spending by super PACs backed by the industry it is important enough for candidates like Trump and RFK to pay attention and appeal to crypto enthusiasts. Whether or not crypto is being talked about, more pro-crypto candidates are being elected due to the amount of money they are raising.

Trump will probably not pardon Ross Ulbricht on day 1, like he promised, but he might do it eventually because he is a populist seeking to improve his image with voters. He is also a businessman who, along with his family, will be launching a DeFi platform. This is certainly good publicity for his crypto businesses. In contrast, Harris is a textbook politician. She is being more cold, calculated, and sticking to the script given to her by her party’s leadership. Since money is what determines political agendas, I believe crypto will become more of a bipartisan issue. Harris and the Democrats will have to adopt friendlier policies to remain competitive.

Donald Trump has expressed his views on cryptocurrencies on several occasions. In some of his statements, he showed a negative opinion towards cryptocurrencies, as he considered them a threat to the US currency, the dollar. He also criticized the idea of virtual currencies and considered that the matter requires greater regulation. This discrepancy in his positions clearly expresses his hesitation to take a precise position, as his political position was the determinant of his views each time. That is, when he was in power, he was not enthusiastic about cryptocurrencies and considered them a threat, then after leaving the White House and rejoining the race for the next presidential elections, he began to express his positive aspirations regarding them and made promises to provide greater legal and regulatory cover.

At the recent Bitcoin conference in Nashville, Trump's intervention was not significant, although the conference itself gained increased attention due to Trump's invitation to it. Many are still convinced that Trump is seeking to gain an electoral base that supports him as a presidential candidate, and I do not think that the crypto community really trusts his promises, no matter how easy they seem to achieve.

From a personal point of view, I believe that the opinion on cryptocurrencies will remain mixed, as some see them as the future of money, while others see them as a bubble or a speculative tool. In the United States in particular, it is unfortunate that the crypto space has turned from an emerging market that promises further development opportunities, into an electoral tool used by politicians according to their narrow interests. I also believe that the position of the Democrats is more transparent and consistent with the party’s policies, which do not trust cryptocurrencies and originally avoid engaging in them, even though this may help them in the electoral campaign to win the presidency.

For those that dont know. There was someone scamming him for BTC. He also pretended to know of a hitman to get rid of someone who wants to leak some Silkroad member info. Ross didn't want this info leaked so he paid the hitman, however nobody was actually murdered, the individual was pretending. And this is what got him the long jail sentence. Because even though nobody actually died,  he still was willing to commit the crime.
Ross Ulbricht was not convicted of murder for hire or attempted murder because the charges were dropped by the US attorney. But it was used as a media war against Ross and one can assume that it indirectly contributed to the harsh sentence he received. Portraying him as a murderous drug kingpin has also affected the support he is getting for the commuting of his sentence.

No doubt his creation (Silk Road) caused some level of harm to society but it was not all about drugs; it was also about privacy and freedom. I think he deserves a second chance because even convicted mass murderers have received lighter sentences. He has shown remorse and teaches maths and yoga in prison. Ross is also helping inmates to get out of drugs.

In case people wondering what is the judgement made by US government regarding his case they can read it in this site https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ross-ulbricht-aka-dread-pirate-roberts-sentenced-life-federal-prison-creating

Although the sentence is bit harsh for him but I guess its time for the government to look at his case and check if he do well in prison. Since I still think that everyone deserve a second chance and I think Ross Ulbricht still deserve to consider. Maybe government could use his talent and able to track more illegal online activities. But still government has final say if they are already close with this chapter and think about he still deserve to rot on jail then I guess he can't do anything with it.

This had happened many years ago and all aspects of his case have been laid out enough that they even made several movies about the events leading up to his conviction and then arrest.

I had a post early on in this thread about one of those more popular movies yet not too accurate because it is hollywood afterall:

Was actually watching the movie about what had happened prior to his arrest and what was portraited to have occurred, well by hollywood.
It reminded also reminded me of the post I had made when this movie was released back in 2021.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.56384401

There had been several documentaries about it as one comes to mind called Deep Web narrated by Keeanu Reeves of all people from 2015.

So it was and still is a popular and highly debated topic.

I have been very split on the whole “Free Ross” movement. One one hand Im all for less government and free markets, less laws (the war on drugs has been a massive disaster inside the United States), and I share a lot of Ross’s sentiments around this.

Silk Road’s effect on Bitcoin can’t be overstated. It did A LOT to bring Bitcoin to where it’s gotten, whether that was in a good or bad light.

On the other hand I’ve watched quite a few documentaries on Silk and Ross and it seems clear he deserves a healthy jail sentence and if he truly did hire a hitman (if true of course he was scammed in doing so) I don’t think he’s should ever be released. But , many claim this is propaganda against him and isn’t true Huh

Any fans of Mr Robot (amazing television show) surely picked up on this, a clear Silk Road nod -   https://youtu.be/8qy2NqxKINc?si=IM0sw59nO0mVx5gm (just thought I’d share)

I also didnt know much about Ross until perhaps last month when some Youtube video showed up saying how he was tricked. After being involved in crypto for almost 10 years, I finally learnt what happened to him.

Exact samething is happening to Pavel Durov a CEO of a platform where they took him into custody blaming him for what others are doing on telegram.

Look, you could put all this in the politics board and many forum members can answer you about those but here it's off topic because this thread will only be filled by those kind of things instead of the link about Ross.

Surely, you will find it amusing there in the politics board with so many members also talking about them.

Advocating for a named candidate to win an election, which this thread absolutely is doing, is... politics.

And if you advocate for a candidate, you own everything that candidate is for, not just the one thing you happen to want from that candidate.

While it seems paradoxical, I continue to advocate that the Bitcoin community stay out of US partisan politics because there's simply no way to get near it without touching the extreme political polarization we have here. Trump is promising to change the lives of every single American in drastic ways if he is elected. Maybe you think that is what should happen, and that's a debate one can have. But the minute you bring in one of our political poles, that's the debate.

This debate will happen but I don't know what is the issue over live mics and none live. I don't understand.
Anyway, I was actually waiting if the promise about Ross Ulbricht aka (Dread Pirate Roberts) will float again in this debate. Perhaps Trump will say it again to keep his strong support from the cryptocurrencies supporters especially the Bitcoin maximalists.

September 10 is the said date for it. I hope they can work it all out without a problem because I am really excited on whatever new things we will hear from both parties.

Trump is done and he knows it. He is slurring his speech and is incoherent on stage--and his crowd sizes are diminishing and people are bored by him. And Trump's whole thing has been his entertainment value, not anything of substance, except for a minority of people who vote for him because he will make abortion illegal in the USA.

There are three reasons Trump was winning before Biden quit:

1. Biden was a senile old man too--although he was never as senile as Trump is. But this made it hard for Biden to attack Trump over his age and mental decline. Harris has no problem pointing out decrepit Trump is today.

2. People forgot, temporarily, that Trump is a proven rapist, a convicted criminal, and attacked the US Capitol four years ago. Democrats are running ads refreshing the memories of Americans about all of this right now.

3. People didn't know what Trump actually stood for in terms of his policies. Now the Republican "Project 2025" is being widely disseminated (now by Republicans and Democrats), and people can read what Trump will do, e.g. banning abortion, deporting 11 million Americans including children who have never been to that country, and raising taxes on all Americans by placing huge tariffs on all imported good. Trump promises economic ruin with these radical policies, but before most Americans just saw a con man that they "felt" good about

Now that the election choice is getting real for Americans, Trump is losing. And he is too senile to figure out how to do anything else.

Bro, this is mostly an attack to the presidential candidates and not about what they will say during or after the debate. We want their platforms and one of them is letting Dread Pirate Roberts go. (which is why this thread is created)
I don't really care about them being senile or anything. I want to hear what they are planning to do with Ross (updates) and not about how old they are and that is why I am excited about the next debate that will happen against Kamala.

Here's Trump the other day ranting about electric cars and sharks:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZsSb6g6QLg&t=408s

Totally. Senile.
Quote
So I said, “Let me ask you a question.”
And he said, “Nobody ever asked this question, and it must be because of MIT, my relationship to MIT,” very smart.
I say, “What would happen if the boat sank from its weight and you’re in the boat and you have this tremendously powerful battery and the battery’s underwater, and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there?”
By the way, a lot of shark attacks lately. Do you notice that? A lot of shark… I watched some guys justifying it today. “Well, they weren’t really that angry. They bit off the young lady’s leg because of the fact that they were not hungry, but they misunderstood who she was.” These people are crazy.
He said, “There’s no problem with sharks. They just didn’t really understand a young woman swimming now who really got decimated and other people too,” a lot of shark attacks.
So I said, “So there’s a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards or here. Do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking, and water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking. Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted?” Because I will tell you he didn’t know the answer.
He said, “Nobody’s ever asked me that question.”
I said, “I think it’s a good question. I think there’s a lot of electric current coming through that water.” But you know what I’d do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted, I’ll take electrocution every single time. I’m not getting near the shark.
So we going to end that. We’re going to end it for boats. We’re going to end it for trucks.

Blah - blah - blah nonsensical garbage - hi-jacking thread for political debate

He did not say he will pardon his sentence but commute (lower).

He may as well lower his sentence from "double life plus 40 years without parole" to "double life plus 20 years without parole".

Well... There's no way we can find out if truly he's pro Bitcoin except if he wins the election. A politician will tell you what you want to hear just to get your vote. Trump may be all Bitcoin, given a good speech at the Bitcoin conference and also said he'd grant Ross Ulbricht presidential pardon if he wins the election but may not do any of this thereafter. The sad thing is, he can easily betray bitcoiners because this is his last tenure.

Trump used his last presidency to line his own pockets, and he has shown, repeatedly through his life, that he does not care about anybody but his own enrichment and he's willing to sacrifice the entire country in order to make himself a little more money.

Think of that when you learn that Trump is getting himself, personally, into the crypto business. Imagine yourself competing with the President of the United States and the US government which he completely controls.

Go ask a Russian if they want to get into a business that Putin is already in.

Go ask a Chinese entrepreneur if they think it would be cool to compete with the CCP in their business.

That's what we would be up against if Trump wins. Outlawing Bitcoin and replacing it with Trump's own currency (his personal company, not the government's) would be very easy for Trump to do and would make him the richest man on the planet.

The safe thing for the business right now is to go with what we know has worked, even if it's not "perfect". In other words, Harris.

Trump promises nothing but disaster.

With it being an election year and bitcoin being one of the main catalysts in this and highly debated with subjects in the spotlight from it reaching it's all time high recently to it's regulation spurring debate among it's prime candidates on whether they should adopt or fight CBDC in the American financial system.

One thing that the former president had presented for his re-election did catch my eye:
Whether or not to pardon Ross Ulbricht of his crime for running the Silk Road?

Trump threatens to pull out of Harris debate, hot mics an issue
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-threatens-pull-out-harris-debate-hot-mics-an-issue-2024-08-26/

WASHINGTON, Aug 26 (Reuters) - The campaigns of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris clashed on Monday over next month's U.S. presidential debate, with the vice president's team seeking a return to open microphones while her Republican rival threatened to pull out entirely, suggesting the previously agreed-upon ABC network was biased.
"Why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?" Trump, who is making his third bid for the White House, wrote in a social media post late Sunday night that also accused the network of bias. "Stay tuned!!!"

This debate will happen but I don't know what is the issue over live mics and none live. I don't understand.

There was about an hour delay since he was sposse to take the stage at 3pm but think he arrived there at 4pm instead.
I would imagine at every conference or rally he has up until the November elections he will have heavy detail due to the attempt on his life and not have women who are shorter and thinner than he is. The man is 6 foot 3 inches and stocky.
So they will be having agents who are well over his height something such as 6 foot 5 inches and over 255 lbs I would assume going any further into crowds of people.
His security detail during that rally in Pennsylvania looked like something from an SNL skit somebody said and not for a potential presidential candidate or former president.
It did look like a circus if you watch what those two women agents did. One standing behind him of where the shot came from and the other couldn't even holster her firearm.
No wonder the head of the CIA was fired during that hearing two weeks ago.

Anyways, back to the subject at hand.
He did have a special guest as those at the conference were saying he was going to have and it wasn't Elon Musk.
It was senator Cynthia Lummis stipulating a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve Bill right after his speech.

This is the full video of that speech from Lummis:

Shockingly enough he mentioned about freeing Ross with time served once elected.
The speech made seemed like every other speech you had heard him make in the past expect he would put bitcoin and cryptocurrency in somewhere at places.
One take away from it was: Trump thinks every person who holds mined it themself.
Okay, it seems like I missed that Bitcoin conference but I found news that a delay happened because of suspected people around.
Donald Trump's Crypto Speech Was Delayed Over 'Security Breach'—Andy Ogles
https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-bitcoin-speech-security-breach-ogles-1931815
Quote
"Secret Service just told me 'sir, we would like a little more time.' I said you take all the time you want," Trump said.

"You can take two hours, three hours, to hell with all the people that have been waiting out here. But I'm sure they don't mind either."

Reading about his plans on Bitcoin technology, I think it's just the same as what RFK Jr. said, accumulating as much as Bitcoin they can get and then using it as a reserve. I think the only difference is how they put it in words and their next plans after.
I like what he said about firing the SEC Chairman Gary Gensler because it's too obvious that man is against cryptocurrencies but he just won't admit it. He will just always say it's for security reasons but all his attacks seems studied and most of them are reputable companies.
Now the big question: If ever Trump wins, who will be the next SEC Chairman? That can change a lot of things and maybe in favor of Bitcoin this time.

It was a good move, if he can incentivize miners by giving them cheap energy, he will certainly be able to increase the number of miners in the US. This will help a lot in the fight against China.

If Bitcoin is subsidized by US taxpayers, then US taxpayers will want something in return, e.g. control of Bitcoin.

Inviting the US government into the Bitcoin community is utter madness.
