I do love bitcoin, and I have been here since 2013 as well. So nobody can question my love for bitcoin, I wouldn't dare to entertain that. However, can someone please explain to me why should DPR be released? Was the charges bogus and fake? Because if the charges were fake, then I would understand why he should be released. But, if he is the person that made it possible for anyone to do any illegal services on his platform, including some things 100% of the population would agree very wrong, it wasn't just weed, it was terrible stuff. Why? Why should he be released?

I just do not understand the point of these bitcoiners who like to see everyone who did wrong in the bitcoin world to be released as a "win", no that is not how it works, if a person is bad then they are bad.

This will never happen due to Sam Bankman Fried aka. SBF donating millions to the Biden administration for them not touching him. Sort of a pay-off in a way, it was his own protection money.

Which ultimately back fired on him because he ended up in jail anyways.

Yes, he was left in prison under president Biden because Biden doesn't take bribes.

Trump does. And will do some more if he wins.

Quote

They were all in on funding Biden's administration one way or another. You just need to follow the bread crumbs.

Yes, please follow the bread crumbs: they lead to a prison cell.

SBF tried to bribe Biden and the Democrats and it didn't work because Biden and the Democrats support law and order.

Trump pardoned numerous criminal associates of his because they donated to him.

These characters could not be more opposite.

Trump will only pardon him if it's good for Trump, e.g. that Ross will be able to pay Trump a lot of money. If he doesn't have any money, he'll rot in jail forever, regardless of whether he deserves leniency.

The real danger is Trump pardoning other crypto criminals like SBF in exchange for money. This will send the price of Bitcoin into the toilet because average investors will know they can be swindled and the crypto-criminals will get away with it--so you are better off putting your money in a well-known bank.

Putting fraudsters in jail makes signals to investors that the market is stable and fair.

If Trump is elected, every average investor in the USA will bail out of Bitcoin because they know the fix will be in, and Trump will rig the market in his favor.

His mother was caught in political meddling aswell but never received any prosecution.
So that tells you some of that hush money worked in his parents favor.

That is how the political landscape is even though many will say it is just.

Well no, it is actually all about money and power.

If Trump sees it will get him back into office he will say he will release Dread Pirate Roberts only if it will secure voters to sway the election in his favor.
It is all about how these pieces will play into this election. He obviously doesn't care for Ross's well being and sees him as a crook and somebody who got caught. He should know now that he too himself is a convicted criminal.

Today is the debate so we can only see what the orange man will say and if it will be about the orange coin. Grin

Oh, and RFK Jr. said the same thing.
Lmao, unfortunately Biden can't join the group because he's already the president. Cheesy

Yes, and since he cannot join the group of those two running for President, he needs to act that is also about cryptocurrencies.
Here he goes.
Biden administration brings back past crypto adviser Carole House

Quote
House said she is “honored to have been called to return to service of absolutely critical mission sets that are necessary to shape the future of secure and trustworthy digital economies.”
Again, the same question. Why now? Cheesy These guys, they are all funny.

It looks like the candidates for President are all targeting about cryptocurrencies because they know the people are hooked there so they are using this strategy to get their votes. I don't even know if it's working. People are wiser now especially those who are into crypto. Because you need to be wise or else you will be scammed or rug pulled. Cheesy

I guess it's all about cryptocurrencies now and it's just normal that a new president should know something about it too.

Sorry to say but do you even know what this debate is about?
It is a political debate so it all about Politics. The main reason for this topic in the subject: Trump vs Biden's debate this Thursday.
I was talking about the debate of whether Roberts deserves to be in jail or not.  For so long no body cared and all of a sudden the candidate for United States Presidency is implicating his name in this situation?  Why did they never care but suddenly do in the Election Year?  If they did not until now, how are we supposed to believe they will do something if Trump wins the Presidency?

And how did you get to this conclusion?

I rather believe Trump uses his name before the Elections so he could get more votes.  The typical promises of a Politician, followed by never accomplishing any of them at all.  Trump has enough money to not care about the little amount he can get from Roberts.

I get to this conclusion by observing the sum total of everything Trump did in his first term as president, and then everything he has done his entire life.

Trump is a criminal--a convicted criminal. And his current conviction is just the tip of the iceberg. In his first term he tried to trade Ukraine away to slaughter in exchange for... moderately helping his reelection bid by forcing them to start an investigation into Biden. Trump was willing to trade away the security of the United States, in other words, for a few votes. He was willing to burn our Capitol building down in order to retain the presidency--even though this weakened us as a country. He didn't care how bad this was for our country. He just wanted to stay in office.

All of the prominent figures Trump pardoned in his first term were either his campaign associates or large donors. Trump is for Trump, not the USA. This is unlike any previous American president, by the way.

I do agree Ross should not be imprisoned or have such a harsh sentence.  But implicating Politics in this debate is not a good look in my eyes.

It is not the first time Trump is using these ways to make many people steer the wheel toward his vote.  Only if he did do something about Bitcoin or Cryptocurrencies generally while he was President.  Only if he cared about Ross back when he was the President.  But he did not.  What makes you believe he would this time around?

Dread Pirate Roberts arrested since 2013, while Trump had become president of the US from 2017-2021, if he want to release DPR, why he didn't do it when he was become US's president?

It's completely clear he don't give a shit to DPR, all he wants is to get sympathy from Bitcoin enthusiast and encourage them to vote him.

Was actually watching the movie about what had happened prior to his arrest and what was portraited to have occurred, well by hollywood.
It reminded also reminded me of the post I had made when this movie was released back in 2021.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.56384401

There had been several documentaries about it as one comes to mind called Deep Web narrated by Keeanu Reeves of all people from 2015.

So it was and still is a popular and highly debated topic.

That's a really smart move for Trump, to continue to appeal to the crypto community with this one but I feel like this is a bit of a stretch because I feel like Ross doesn't deserve the pardon for his crimes, didn't he at that time threatened someone because they're about to expose them? Plus, the crimes that he committed creating a website that enables drug traffickers and other heinous people to put their goods and services in a much more easier access. I feel like this isn't the right move for Trump in the long run.

You're on the wrong forum if you think open trading is bad because government said it's bad.

THIS is the most retarded thing I have read in this year.

commuting the sentence could be a possibility of parole without him actually getting parole, for example. He didn't say he'd pardon him or otherwise free him.

At least he would have some hope.

For average Joe life will be miserable no matter which president will be running this circus, if there's a chance for helping Ross - I would vote for Trump.
But even on this forum there are lefties who hate Trump so much that they will be against him anyway.
I'm not USA citizen (fortunately) so can't vote, but if I could I would vote for Trump.

No, he obviously doesn't.
It is to gain the popular vote. Before it was another group you can insert your own narrative there.
Now they are the bitcoiners and the ones who are tired of Biden and the way things have been run under his presidency.

He is said to be attending a bitcoin conference in July along with others in politicians so to garner these voters who want a change and see bitcoin as the catalyst of this new revolution to overthrow the old:

8 years ago, Trump did not need support from Bitcoin enthuasiasts to beat H. Clinton but this year, he needs it. Bitcoin adoption has become bigger than 8 or 4 years ago and Trump saw chance and risk of successfully attract Bitcoin investors, cryptocurrency investors to gain more votes in November.

This can be important factor to decide the winner, Elected President, between Trump and Biden. Trump aims att he big community, not DPR.

cout << "Bitcoin";
With it being an election year and bitcoin being one of the main catalysts in this and highly debated with subjects in the spotlight from it reaching it's all time high recently to it's regulation spurring debate among it's prime candidates on whether they should adopt or fight CBDC in the American financial system.

One thing that the former president had presented for his re-election did catch my eye:
Whether or not to pardon Ross Ulbricht of his crime for running the Silk Road?

When a person begins to talk too much inorder to gain the attentions of so many, then there should be a question mark to all what has been said so far. Trump has really been talking tough, and stating so many things that he will do the moment he is elected. I won't be surprise at all if he doesn't do most of this things that are been stated,. But remember that internet never forgets.

Why now? Not when he is running for President last time and he won. Is it because of the hype and popularity of Bitcoin especially when the ETF was approved? Yes, there's no other reason for doing this.

I think Trump is trying to get the votes of all the Bitcoin maximalist and the supporters of Ross. And this is another way to bring down his opponent Biden because of the bad image of him in the cryptocurrency community.
But here is the problem, Trump is not so clean too, he was also against cryptocurrencies and just saying he has a change of heart. Well yeah, you will change your heart if you are running for president and trying to get more supporters. They made this politics like Hollywood, all fake, all drama, all scripted, and it's all to manipulate the votes.
Let's say he wins and release him, what's next?

Lol : "A vote for Trump means Ross could be free"

It's not far from begging votes at that level.

"The Bitcoin Historian" should remind us where Ross slept and spent his time, during Trump's years in White House?

There is a general belief among some Bitcoiners that Donald Trump has repented from his bad views about Bitcoin. He wants all future Bitcoin to be mined in the US. Trump made this promise to please Libertarian voters who have been campaigning for the legalization of drugs and the release of Ross Ulbricht. Politicians cannot be trusted but this promise is good enough to make him get votes from Bitcoiners and supporters of Ross.

Trump is trying to do everything he can to attract USA. citizens and turn them to his supporters. He will use any mean he can to get as many votes as possible. What will he do, what will be future of Dread Pirate Roberts should be discussed after he becomes a next elected President.

Joe Biden is also doing all he can to remain in the White House. This is the nature of politicians. My only concern is Trump's willingness to fulfill his promise of commuting the sentence of Ross Ulbricht when he gets to the White House.

I've discussed Ulbricht's case with some people just recently. Overall, I don't think people like him should be in prison, let alone have a life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. His crime was non-violent, but I also do understand why he got such a harsh punishment. He challenged the system a lot by defying the court, making a marketplace what doesn't need any governmental oversight and selling, among other things, opiates. Opiates are a very sensitive topic in the US because they still have overdose deaths on the rise. Still, a guy like that would be more useful working for the country, not against it or rotting in prison.
But as for Trump, I simply don't trust him. I think he's just being a populist, telling people what they want to hear to win more votes in the upcoming elections. And then, once he's in power, he can continue doing what he always did, and that's not being pro-Bitcoin and not being libertarian. Also, commuting the sentence could be a possibility of parole without him actually getting parole, for example. He didn't say he'd pardon him or otherwise free him.

That was just point 16. Scroll up to read the rest of the timeline too Ross's plight while being jailed.
Don't know if this was during the Obama years but he did show where he spent 6 weeks of his conviction:
