Bitcoin's only competition is by currencies trying to imitate the same thing it offers therefore I too consider it without any serious competition or something taking the same concept but starting in a different way. ETH and MONERO are good ideas but not something so new that it can take BTC's place.

Ethereum will beat bitcoin, just wait for it Wink

Blockchain is beautiful, in the future we will see a lot of new good projects, maybe better than bitcoin.

The bitcoin does not has a lot of competition but it without any doubts has a bit of competition by banks that are also making coins.
I think that banks can let the bitcoin disappear as a example.

The bitcoin has the competition from many other currencies. The examples are the Etheruem and litecoin.

Bitcoin has been steadily losing market cap dominance, from 90%+ just two years ago to ~80% today.

When it comes to exchange dominance it's just 66.4%.

This trend will probably continue and in a few years there will be people using cryptocurrencies that do not know what bitcoin is.

I doubt it, i think that the increase in altcoin is because of peoples increased knowledge and technical ability, but bitcoin will always be the safe haven.  if bitcoin crashes and burns the general public wont touch another crypto currency for 30 years

I think bitcoin is the mother of all cryptocurrencies and it is highly unlikely that bbitcoin will be replaced by them but yes other cryptos will also make space for themselves and obviously restrict bitcoin usage to some extent

I think only competition of bitcoin is almost all altcoin in the market. those altcoin are always dreaming to be the same as bitcoin or replace bitcoin..
But for me bitcoin will be still remain,,

Well.. that is the difference. The other alts such as Ether, Ripple, and Litecoin want to reach the same level as BTC (or even replace it). And at the same time Bitcoin users are hoping that BTC will reach the same level as the fiat currencies such as the United States Dollar and the Great Britain Pound. Alt users can dream about their coins replacing BTC. But it is never going to happen.

bitcoin, technology, anonymity etc... all are secondary, First thing is money. If some other coin is trusted to make more money than bitcoin, slowly or maybe suddenly bitcoin will have heavy competition.

Absolutely false with over 740 cryptocurrencies it's quit hard to compete and stay in top position because all coins have its importance. But not all coins are so famous and used by many people but atleast 10 to 20 coins are capable of competing with bitcoin.

Including the now defunct alts, I believe that the number of crypto-currencies are more than 1000. Still none of them are capable of competing with Bitcoin, at least for now. For sure alts such as Ether enjoy a large market cap. But they lack depth. There are very few people using them, and even fever avenues exist to use these shitcoins.

Some of the bigger bitcoin stake holders are leveraging into the Ethereum arena.  I wouldn't underestimate the depth of support that it's receiving.  The facts are that the bitcoin community needs to pay attention to these developments rather than dismiss them as inconsequential.  Look at what the Winklevoss twins are doing for example: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-05-23/here-s-one-way-of-saving-the-winklevoss-twins-bitcoin-etf-dream  They are major players in this space, so we should be paying attention to what they're doing.

Bitcoin does possess the possibility of gaining a lot more attention in the future which will further increase its chances of getting used as a currency itself rather than an asset... I don't think there will actually be something that can replace Bitcoins, so it's useless if people think this would ever happen... There won't be any second chance to people who think they will get rich in future with another altcoin which will have potential to overtake Bitcoins...

it's not questionable at all that bitcoin is the most solid cryptocurrency in the current time or even the only one people of this forum can think of now, Just following the media tells you the just BTC is getting attention, I doubt a cryptocurrency can take BTC's place.

It is more of competing with each altcoins. Look at those who bash ETH some of them are newbies and some are carrying a signature from another altcoin. That is the real competition that is being held. I dont think they really want to compete with such a high value now.

Bitcoin has no competition indeed it's existing for quite a while now and build up a nice foundation. For bitcoin to die or to be hurt there has to be a very big other currency I think bitcoin can actually take over fiat even in the future.

Though there are no other currencies online or we can say digital currencies that can compete with bitcoin right now but it still does not seem to be realistic to say that bitcoin will take over fiat, because in compared to the users of fiat bitcoin community is too small, so they wont let it happen at first place.
for the issue bitcoin will be replaced by another digital currency or not, it will never happen and it's same as bitcoin will never replace fiat although growth bitcoin is growing rapidly.

You are right. No altcoin can compete with bitcoin and btc will stay strong and grow.

All the other cryptocurrencies exist because of bitcoin and without btc, they won`t survive.

I don`t care about the "FUDsters".

Bitcoin has more power than other Crypto-currencies  because of its's importance in the market and also for the advantages that bitcoin giving to their users, Price matters alot and bitcoin has a good price so people fells secure to invest their money in bitcoin because they know they will definitely get profit so i think there is no competitor of bitcoin in the  market of crypto-currencies.

bitcoin is the originator and pioneer the first digital currency. bitcoin certainly is the beginning of every coin.
I think bitcoin can not be paired with other altcoin. bitcoin has no competitors.

well can't say that atleast 10 or 20 coins could compete bitcoin while only ethereum that having 10,4millions dollar marketcap for 24 hours is far from bitcoin that having marketcap about 48,2 millions dollar in 24 hours ,bitcoin have about more than 4 times ethereum's marketcap but it's also good start for eth because they're still new
