If you look at this years returns, then you can find that both of them have been profitable. BTC has returned close to 750% returns till now (if you add up free BCH and BTG coins, then it is close to 900%) and with Ethereum, the ROI till now has been more than 3,000%. The trick is to diversify your portfolio and to hold on to your coins.

Really depends on how fast or how much do you need the money. But in my opinion, bitcoin investments are for long term. When I mean long term, it's really gonna take long, about 1 year for a really good profit. If a short term investment is what you're looking for, alt coins gives profit on a very fast scale (during and after ICO) but the pay is a bit low.

Safe and profitable never go in the same sentence, if you want something safe then it is not going to be as profitable, and if you want something profitable then you are going to assumes huge risks, if you want to be safe then invest in bitcoin and while you can get profits you are not going to get the profits you could get by investing in an ICO but you do not get the huge risks either.

Well if we are talking about safety wise all the cryptocurrency are a bit risky to invest in some more than others, but this risk comes at the cost of profit, investing in cryptocurrency espascially in bitcoin can get you some really good and fast profit, so if you are asking which is better to invest in for profit and with less risk i would say bitcoin, because the other coins people only use them as backdoors to bitcoin they mine and try to get ethereum or litecoin or whatever other cryptocurrency there is just to exchange them to bitcoin because it is starting to be hard to get, but all in all cryptocurrency is becomining more and more sort of the new era investment, because people know that soon papaer moeny will disapear and digital money will take place.

Bitcoin has a high value as of now. So, the rising room for bitcoin is limited as compared to altcoins that are priced in cents.

For much higher returns, altcoins are the best, but they can be a bad investment due to fraudulent altcoins out there. So, do complete research, especially the coin's history, social presence and the dev team's work.

Not all altcoin are profitable there are so many emerging altcoins now in crypto market cap, I stored altcoin ethereum to my wallet I know this altcoin have a potential to grown up like bitcoin did. Bitcoin is my most precious crypto coins I stored and invested this and lock up in my wallet for the better future.

Yes making investing into bitcoin is still safe even if you doing right now due to about 62% of Institutional Investors are Buying or Considering Buying Bitcoin can be seen bitcoin's price rise up more than $8000/ bitcoin now, unfortunately investing into bitcoin needs large of money, it is not problem for bagholders, but will be hard for little investors who doesn't have large of money to invest up to 100 bitcoin, the best choice is they can invest into the alternative coins although it needs much money too, the big chance to getting profit is investment in the ICOs, it can be used small and big amount of money, so depending on your capital which are choosen of course based on your analysis.
