All the altcoins come and go but they have all in a way promoted bitcoins. However, bitcoin has been independent compared to the other coins and people who have invested in dogecoin and other coins and switching back to BTC considering that it is more popular and worth buying.

An article: http://bravenewcoin.com/news/bitcoins-value-altcoins/
The link is giving the how the altcoin is important in this industry. though Bitcoin is the reason why atlcoin created they are both helping to one another I think. Smiley

Without altcoins the network wouldn't be able to cope with the amount of transactions and the fees would be even higher.

LOL, Bitcoin blockchain is different from altcoin blockchain.  And what difference it is when you transfer your Bitcoin into altcoin (Bitcoin transaction is done here when you deposite in an exchange)  and then sending your altcoin to another exchange and convert it to Bitcoint (another transaction when you withdraw) and withdraw it?  Basically you are creating more transaction here unless you are sending your altcoin to an exchange that supports fiat currency / altcoin trade.  FYI, this is not applicable in my country since our exchange only use Bitcoin / Fiat currency exchange.  And lots of shop are only accepting Bitcoin( now how can you pay the goods with altcoin from my counry).

I think this is what hes trying to say, bitcoin without altcoins will be having the attention of millions of users to bitcoin. No other altcoin is available so the focus is all on bitcoin. So, the transaction of bitcoin will be every second and the bitcoin network will be very busy with all that transactions. Imagine a street full of cars and vehicles because there are no other street other than that.

Probably you are right, I was focus on the blockchain and transactions.  And eventually this people from the country that does not have an exchange that accept Altcoin to be converted to their currency will then convert their altcoin to Bitcoin and then convert it to their local currency.  I still can not see the logic of decreasing network transactions by using altcoin especially to those that only use Bitcoin among the cryptocurrency as mode of payment.

if bitcoin without altcoin bitcoin prices will not be as expensive as this, and without altcoin cryptocurrency would not be interesting. bitcoin without altcoin life seemed flat

Disagree and it's not like that.

Bitcoin price are based on people's buy and sell action, basically the demand. Bitcoin are mainly used for trades and different usages (money transfer, gambling, payments etc.) that's why it was bought by other people. If such cases that there is a price increase, it's not because of the altcoins. Remember the MT. GOX era or when bitcoin price were on the pump back then? There are only few alts that time that really a popular.

Bitcoin without altcoin? Then i could say bitcoins price would really high in value because people will only focus on bitcoin and not to other alts which we could able to see now but this thing wont happen at all since people or developers would create their own coin which will compete to bitcoin.
in fact bitcoin is the main currency while people use bitcoin for trading alt coin and increasing their bitcoins. in fact bitcoin is a perfect currency and it do not need for any alt coin for its promotion.

Nothing important really. They mostly just come and go, so they carry little effect with themselves. But they do promote use of s, if people are buying them with s,

i think both depends upon each other... altcoin has a great effect in promotion of bitcoin... so i think without altcoin bitcoin will nothing and without bitcoin altcoin is nothing. so, both have their own importance...
That is right since bitcoin has been getting much attention and getting doubled every now and then, it has become really hard to mine so it became not profitable and the only option was for people is to find other ways to earn bitcoin and that is exchanging altcoins so without bitcoin altcoins wouldn’t be a thing.
I don't agree that without altcoin or bitcoin then there wouldn't be a thing because even just bitcoin it can support itself and can continue the progress that its been made so i don't think that bitcoin needs altcoin. Altcoins are just created by other people to create money and mix the market of bitcoin and they just copy what is the idea of bitcoin and also just added some spices on their coin to call it "different" Roll Eyes.

if we consider bitcoin currency is the dollar I think altcoin can be regarded as another currency of another country, it is the cool thing they remain connected to each other and exchange between them is good

I agree with this, and so altcoin is a competitor of bitcoin, and so the developers of bitcoin makes more improvement of it
because they might be beaten by altcoins, and so we can see the real value of bitcoin from its competitors. But for this altcoin owners needs to work hard to be a real competitor for bitcoin
Altcoins were much needed for the successful growth of bitcoin. Though altcoins keep bitcoin as the base for the development, bitcoin is in the lead. If bitcoin was the only digital currency or could have never been popular as now. The different coins make bitcoin stand unique amongst all.

altcoin actually provide diversity crypto currency. but although altcoin nothing though. bitcoin will survive. like when you first launch. where there is no altcoin right ?
However, Bitcoin is only the prototype of cryptocurrency and I believe other cryptos have the mission to support Bitcoin. Moreover, some even stronger than Bitcoin and with the demand of traders, they can easily earn some profit with other currency. I just want to say that I appreciate what other people have done with altcoin and it is certain that one day, bitcoin will be replace by altcoin

It is a good thing to have a competition. That way, those who make new projects with the use of bitcoin can compete also and upgrade their way either in transactions or other services.
With all of that it could be inviting to people who have just started using it. We cant discriminate altcoins for they have some uses also and they are making improvement with their services which could not be found with bitcoin.

I just don't see how altcoins could even beat bitcoin while the majority of them actually rarely being used as an ordinary currency to become trading tools. And also, almost all of altcoins are now kept using bitcoin as their main currency to determine their value in almost every exchanger.
The most popular altcoin as for now I assume Ethereum currently have $1,209,273,138 and not even 1/4 of bitcoin's market cap.
From my opinion, that altcoin is not competitors for bitcoin, altcoin and bitcoin may work together to make cryptocurrency world even popular.

--snip--

I do agree so. There are many bugs in bitcoin which can not be fixed and altcoins are the only way for Bitcoin to improve itself and be developed. And thanks to altcoins, we can also have many big exchange and trading platform which helping to increase the prices of Bitcoin in particularly and to cryptocurrency in general

So, I quoted your post because I would like to ask; Can you highlight precisely some of these many bugs bitcoins has? May be the core devs can fix them. I think that you would like to say that bitcoin has differences with altcoins which is indeed true. One of them I would like bitcoin to have is anonymity like as monero and some other alts but surely this is not a bug but a difference between the protocols of these two cryptos. But bitcoin has 'network effect' that means a vast user base compared to other alts. Hence, bitcoin without alts can survive but this does not apply to altcoins.

Correct. Bitcoin is an indipendent currency just like fiat money, it has a value regardless of altcoin since it's market based. As long as it has a purpose which is to used it for mode of payment and trading, although there is no trading of bitcoin with altcoin, it can stand since it can be trade into fiat money which gives it value. In the other hand, altcoin can't stand without bitcoin since altcoin can't be converted into fiat money directly, it must be converted to bitcoin in order to make that happen.
