You know when the site will be back on it's feet.

EDIT: it works now

Yes apologies for this, generally we post any downtime on twitter and google+ relatively quickly, however if we haven't please report to us via email instead of here!

Good idea but in current form easily manipulated by smallest exchanges. There needs to be a point where an exchange is not included, perhaps 1% of btc volume, otherwise the smallest can fake a small trade at a ridiculously high price to push the average.

Hi, yes in the current model trust is quite a large aspect and we're working on making this not so much of a factor. However, we've been running for almost a year now and not had such an issue.

Don't worry we are fully aware of trusting the data we are provided, and some recent events have pushed improvements in this area higher up the priority list

I dont know if you already do this but just to prevent api or exchange errors I would discard any exchange rate that is 30% up or 30% lower that the other ones.

For example:
Bitcoinaverage pulls Bitstamp, Kraken and BTC-e api, result
Bitstamp: 100$
Kraken: 105$
BTC-E: 10284$ (sounds like an error here)

As BTC-E rate is more than 30% up compared to the other exchanges it is automatically discarded from the average.

Also checking if the exchange rate is more than 10$ can avoid showing 0$ when some api is down.

Yes, quite a few changes haven’t been committed yet as we're improving quite a few other things alongside. Thanks for the comment though.

We would love to get the 0% fee exchanges back in, just curious if you have a smart solution for this? Smiley

sidenote: Bitstamp have now resolved their issues with incapsula and are back into our calculations

Yes! I'd like to see that log scale too, if it looks like a straight diagonal line, we are in-the-money!  Smiley

There is now a switch on the bottom of the chart, not very pretty i know but the functionality is done:

Thank you; this is very much appreciated!

Why is bitstamp removed from the index? I have noticed this for a week now. It seems it does not come back anymore? Anyone knows more on this?

Hi, firstly its only been for 2 days since they were under DDOS and our IP was wrongly banned by incapsula

Their API is returning us a message from incapsula, "Request unsuccessful. Incapsula incident ID: xxx". Initially for over 24hours they returned us outdated data instead.

I receive the same intermittently when requesting locally and from 4 other servers, we cannot integrate them when they return 200's and old data, if it was a clear 'no data here' then it would be ok, but their old data distorts the average.

Feel free to raise your own ticket at bitstamp to help push this through, 2 days is just not good enough.

Got their answer on this!

MykelSilver,

It seems we cannot reach everyone, we've replied to many emails and reddit posts etc, we also tweeted on this.

Bitstamp are blocking requests from our server, staff have informed me that its incapsula that they need to speak with, yet its been 2 days now and we're still being returned $566 by their ticker.

Even locally i cannot access their ticker now. There really is nothing we can do, i urge any user of bitcoinaverage to raise their own ticket at bitstamp to help push the issue through

Regards

Also wondering about stamp. I noticed they were on the site earlier but their price was not being updated, and now gone entirely. 'sup?

Today I have asked this at their support email address ([email protected]). I hope we got an update on this issue soon!

I may write code in exchange for bitcoins.
The prices and actions no longer give ANY accurate picture of the value and price of bitcoin - why SHOULD their pricing be factored into any sort of average?

I don't understand this comment.  Who does "their" refer to?  If the price of bitcoin doesn't give any picture of its value, then what would?  I'm confused.

I thought they were referring to bitcoin.de, which is why i was wondering if i'd missed some event in the last few months that means their data isn't any good?

I guess we just have to wait and see if they write back to clarify.  As far as I know, bitcoin.de is still a reasonable exchange, however, I'm not an expert.
