I just realized that I never actually wrote my biggest problem with FIFA predictor you proposed. As far as I understood you have to do all your picks before competition even started. That way we lose much of the competition dynamic. We basically pick our winners and just wait for competition to end. There is no situations where you take long odds as last resort to try to catch winning spot.
I would prefer any sort of competition where we have to pick winners/results for every round. That way favors the ones who actually watch the matches and adapt their tactics.

We can do both. I think the FIFA predictor is interesting for the same reasons though. All your predictions have to be in before the start and it's out of your hands once it does and there's no changing your mind based on form etc. I agree we should do the scores every game version as well because like you said it adds another edge to those watching the tournament and if your teams don't get through on the other or there's some huge upsets it could end up pretty boring. How about we do both and then just combine the points to find the winners?
