Welcome to the second edition of the Bitcointalk Pie Baking Contest!
I wasn't expecting that the first edition of this contest would get any noticeable steam when I first shared this idea[1]. Thankfully I am glad to say that last year edition had a great number of entries and totally surpassed my expectations. I considered it to be a great success but it was only because of the community support and engagement. Thank you all.
This year I have a new challenge: To surpass last year success. Without further due, I am glad to announce that the second edition of the Bitcointalk Pie Baking contest is now LIVE!
The aim of the contest is still the same - Celebrate the famous Pie day but instead replace the Pie number with our beloved bitcoin symbol.
Prize:There won't be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place this year. Per some feedback from last year, it would be great that users could vote in more than one entry. Adding to that I also believe that in such system we should aim to avoid letting votes go to waste. In an effort to strike a balance between ranking entries and making every vote count, this year the voting system will be based on the
single transferable voting system[2]. You can see a practical example of the method here[3].
The amount of bitcoin gathered during the event will be distributed equally between the three most voted pies.
Like last year everyone is free to contribute to the prize pool. If you want to contribute to the pot just let me know and I'll update the table below. Currently the prize pool holds the following funds:
New prize (collectible) addition as of 10th of March:The great artwork posted by
1Dq gave me an idea of an additional prize - A contest inspired canvas collectible made in collaboration with 1Dq! The artwork will be kept in secret and only myself and 1Dq will know the final result. That is, until the winner receives it and (hopefully) posts it!
Here is the main information:
- Canvas size: 30x40cm/12x15in
- The pool of winners of this collectible will be one of the 3 users that will share the podium;
- The winner of the collectible will be chosen using bitmover Bitcointalk Giveaway Manager;
- If the winner of the giveaway declines to receive the award, then another draft will be made using the same tool for the remaining 2;
- If no winner accepts the award, then it shall be made a giveaway between all other entries to the contest;
- This process will repeat until someone accepts the collectible.

Contest rules:- Pie must be made by yourself and the theme should be Bitcoin related. Check out last year entries[4] if you are unsure if your entry will be qualified or not.
- The definition of a pie, per Merriam-Webster, states:
a: a dessert consisting of a filling (as of fruit or custard) in a pastry shell or topped with pastry or both
- Any entry that doesn't follow the mentioned characteristics will not be counted for the contest.
- In order to be qualified you should post a picture containing your homemade pie + a piece of paper with your username and date. At least 2 more pictures should be taken during the making of the pie to ensure that it wasn't bought;
- Only 1 entry per user (you're free to include any number of pies on your picture);
- Competition will be held in two phases:
- 1st Phase - From 14th February (00:00 GMT) to 14th of March (23:59:59 GMT) : This is where all the users are free to submit their entries -> Live Countdown
- 2nd Phase - Voting process from 15th of March to 29th of March (23:59:59 GMT). Winner shall be announced on the 31th of March.
- During this phase, users are allowed to rank their entries in order of preference until a limit of 4. You are free to edit the vote until the 2nd phase ends.
- Users that do not support more that one entry are free to vote in just one entry. You just can't surpass the limit of 4 (suffice to say, entries ranked above the 4th choice will not be considered).
- No merit sending is allowed from nominees to users which nominated them
- Independently of the submissions that we have, the prize pool will be distributed between the winners;
Who can participate & vote?:- Users with 30 merit (airdrop merit won't count) and 30 activity.
