The issue of profitability is probably why there is a relatively low demand on R4 compared with S9.

I believe bitmain will address this issue in its next release.

I will be watching with baited breath. Noise and cooling have always been an issue in my house.

House isn't good place for profitable mining and even now when difficulty is increased. If you have free electricity, than use R4 additionally at home but if there is possibility of having seperated place for miners than of course s9. Also there is some ways to make s9 less loud and noisy.

I hope for a new release too. There is a market for a silent miner.

I feel like the real miners don't really care about a bit of noise lol and I say that because if you're really in it to make money you are going to need a lot of miners and a professional operation so noise is not going to be a big concern of yours.  Just my opinion.

The point of the R4 was to build a miner that could be run by the home miner enthusiast. That's it. Let's face it, home miners haven't made a profit for some time. It's just not possible. Still, there is a market here.

I don't understand why being a real miner must = noisy and hot.  They clearly did it with the R4 at just 3 TH/s less than the base S9.  There is a huge market of people that would dip their feet in for something like the R4.  Many that have next to free power could make this profitable from home in 6-7 months.

Because for every 10 home buyers that buy one or two,
there's 100 places buying 500 s9's.
Spondoolie proved it with the sp20, individual customers are a pain in the ass and a loss of money..

Until the R4 is removed from the website we can still have some hope.

Was able to get my hands on one and just received it today. After having to send my S9s to be hosted elsewhere due to noise and heat, this unit is night and day, I love it. Obviously ROI is much more difficult to obtain at the unit's price point, but I wish I could find more as I am fortunate to have very cheap power.

Cashback 15%
I don't see how the R4 is at all profitable; I've done the math and at 10 cents a kilowatt this thing is really not profitable at all maybe just maybe a few bucks profit after over year of running 24 hours a day if prices stay where they are now.
With today's difficuly and hardwares, it's hard to get profit from miners and especially from this antminer R4. It's only plus is that it's not as noisy as antminer S series but now who cares about that, many people prefer more profit with noisy antminer s9 than antminer R4. With free electricity profit is 140% in year and with 10 cents, it doesn't worth if you buy only one or two.
For sure profits would be difficult on these R4 Miners because of the difficulty on bitcoin mining and its not really ideal to purchase one of these and you are right people would really tend to buy S series compared to this . Mining with only 1 mining rig  is worthless make it  5-7 miners it would be profitable for sure especially when you do have free electricity on your place just like mine Smiley

I think these are done for. They need a lot of chips to keep cool without having large fans, so they cost a lot more to make than a S9 does. At the previous price they were offering these for the ROI was terrible already and if they want to lower the price to stay competitive they won't make any money. I'd never expect to see another new R4 for sale.

Anyone know when the R4 will be back for sale?

Since its getting colder, I really would like to spend the $150/month on power the next few months as electrical heating in the house instead of my garage!
You'll be disappointed if you're hoping to get significant heat out of the device. I have it in my office with me and my office is only maybe 2 degrees warmer than the rest of the house because of the miner.

I emailed bitmain directly and was just told they had sold out due to high demand (duh  Roll Eyes ). No actual dates or even mention a ballpark of when/if they will be available again. I assume they are doing the same sort of thing to the R4 as they did with the S9....fucking up the firmware with auto-tune crap that doesn't work properly and takes 20-30mins to boot up and start hashing.
