Just discovered bitmark... and I must say this is just AMAZING!

The only thing amazing here is quantity of (garbage) text intentionaly blasted at noobs' faces to prevent them from realising that Bitmark is a just another scrypt clone.

That sad truth is, that if you had read through the thread or the documents or anything which other people had, you would realize that everybody already knows that the codebase is just a fork of the latest Bitcoin release modified to support scrypt and with the chain configuration adjusted to what we need. It's what you would get if Litecoin were created today, and has had just marginally more work than say Viacoin.

In fact, if you'd like to do the same, we've saved you the work, you can clone a fully tested version of our codebase here and use it as you please.

The saddest part however, is that you, unlike everybody else who replied in the last 1300+ replies, didn't take the time to discover what the project is about, or doing.

I am glad however that the above was your response, it shows our decisions in the way we crafted the thread have worked, in that you, are the only person with an uninformed comment out of 35,000 readers. That's quite an achievement.

Regards,

Mark

After reading, I think this must be one of the most promising projects in crypto, and I am happy to be a small part of it! Smiley

Good, our friend intelle is back, they have jumped on and off the network since day three I think.

Difficulty, revisited

Satoshi told us, and we have quoted before:

In the absence of a market to establish the price, NewLibertyStandard's estimate based on production cost is a good guess and a helpful service (thanks).  The price of any commodity tends to gravitate toward the production cost.  If the price is below cost, then production slows down.  If the price is above cost, profit can be made by generating and selling more.  At the same time, the increased production would increase the difficulty, pushing the cost of generating towards the price.

now what has happened with other currencies, is that they have changed the special formula to "If the price is below cost, then production slows down."

through short diff changes and things like kgw/dgw they have changed it to "If the price is below cost, then production cost falls"

which has killed them, or made it hard for them to survive

whereas with us we have the special formula from satoshi, on sunday I wrote, in slack:

Quote
so maybe what follows is only a temporary alignment for a day, or two max, followed by a slow/fast cycle like before going from 100-400 on diff, and double the price range of the last on market
for maybe 2 weeks
through which time volume on both could intensify, and close the large spread

so at diff 400, the network may quarter, slowing production down, giving the market a time to adjust, and making our btm more scarce, and thus more valuable

so the adjustment goes up, not down, on market - as long as we earn it

and with that, our network changes difficulty to just over 400, and we enter this phase.

Let this be a lesson to trust those before, and reinforce our decision to not change how our difficulty works.

good one, this difficulty explanation from Satoshi brings a lot of sense when melded with the Bitmark protocol. good thing we have the network health graph to gauge price indicators. http://bitmark.co/statistics/health my favourite is the blue line, being with the network from day one, this tool helps us greatly with our weekly costings.

I am sorry to say, but this means you don't understand what the project is, you would benefit from becoming familiar with what we are doing, to say it's a coin like any other is quite far from the truth, it is significantly more than that.

Please take the time to read more about the project, it's really quite interesting.

Two little things
The first markings have now been done, we are now marking via irc, soon twitter, facebook, email, and slack.
Our little team of people collaborating is now over 20, with significant outreach in to most technical areas and multiple projects and technologies are being aligned.

I've been thinking about marking a lot recently and I just want to braindump a couple of things here.

One thing that might be simple and useful for an adoption to have is to be able to open a 'vote box' where people vote by casting a a single mark(or more if it's multichoice or similar) in to a set of marks that is limited to one mark per one identity/account. Or in the case where one user can vote for multiple options the vote box would accept the correct amount of marks per user as specified by the creator of the poll. Also time settings could be used like vote with one mark per 24 hour period per user.

Another thing that I've mentioned before but is worth mentioning again is how important I think it will be for adoptions to have the ability to create 'coloured' marks. These would be anything from a single mark to a set of marks that are all tagged as having some unique property to them. They could represent anything that the issuer wanted to associate them with. One example that has come up before with marking is how you could identify a post as spam by risking a set amount of marks that you later receive back(with a possible bonus) if that post that you marked as spam is later determined by the moderator as an actual spam post. One issue came up is that if one were to receive a bonus amount of marks, say double the amount, for reporting spam, this feature could be abused by someone who submits spam on a separate account and collects free marks and games the system as a result. An alternative would be to award people who mark spam a special coloured mark instead, that signifies their contribution and also acts as a sort of record keeper. Say in this example you get a 'golden' mark for every successful reported spam post, the mark in itself will have a negligible value(could be a markbit in the future, or a full mark today) but it would represent an action done. Perhaps over time the administrator might review someone's work in marking spam posts, and if they feel it was a legitimate effort they could offer the user a reward of 10 marks per golden mark.

I think enabling the classification of marks this way expands on the 'gamefication' aspect of marking even more. Special coloured marks could be given to users for special events or to commemorate a certain event. This would be similar to the already popular concept of badges awarded by places like Steam. The difference here is the collection of these marks could be even more enticing as marks are actually a tangible digital good that can be traded and has value. If the first 100 people who purchase a popular game receive a special coloured mark commemorating that purchase and awarded by the game developer, you can safely assume that something like that would be cherished by some who value such things. And others who value them less will still enjoy the idea behind them since they now have the ability to trade things like these. This concept isn't new of course, people have been trading digital goods in games for almost twenty years now. But with marking we can add this layer on top of things that people generally don't consider games. And the fact that each mark is a tangible, cryptographically secure unit of value backed by a blockchain distributed among nodes all over the world gives these marks much more meaning then what a simple badge might represent.

This has nothing to do with the update Mark mentioned in the post above but here's a short article on Bitmark News:

The last few posts raise a question I have been wondering about. Did donations made to Mark before the announcement of developer loans get automatically converted to loans or do I just get a pat on the back for being a nice guy  Grin

It would be terribly rude to not thank those properly who supported the project early on.

What I may have done is put a portion of the donations in to BTM, and put that portion in to a couple of addresses, to be released to those that helped the project with donations, when the network reaches particular difficulties, some at a five figure difficulty, and some at a certain six figure difficulty Smiley

After looking at the thread it appears to be quite baron of updates, I'll prepare something to let you all know the state of the project, as it has grown in size, outreach, and accomplishments quite considerably, with many positive things in every direction.

Love this coin.

Donations going to "The Bitmark Foundation"  and loans (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.8354254) to mark. You can find everything in OP.
