Distributors tell they dont get replys for him for at least a week, neither a normal user heard something from him in this time. There is no news on new stock and shipped lots to the resellers. But back on topic here:fpga manufacturers did it for love of bitcoin - BFL making asics are a result of that venture (and their love of bitcoin). friedcat's business model is a 'standard 2nd world' approach to business... you leverage the things that are cheap in the second world nations - labor, electric cost - and use it quickly bring an inferior product to market... effectively flooding that market and making it much much harder for legitimate businesses to make any money because although their products are superior they have much higher production costs... and now the competitors junk looks just like the high quality product.

Huh? What exactly makes the pioneering companies illegitimate? They make it faster & cheaper. If you want boutique first-world product, pay up -- i doubt anyone would mind.

Friedcat does not need your money to increase his hashing power, he makes PLENTY of money from mining to add all the hashing power he wants. Selling mining equipment is mainly because he is producing more hashing power then he can deploy... so he sells the extra for profit.
