Hey, sorry to bump such an old thread, but it seems "The hottest threads on Bitcointalk.org of the last 24h" has not been updating for quite a while now, and it's a feature I use all the time Smiley Is this a known issue?

Can you give a criteria for the "hot topics"?

Also what do you think about function which could aggregate new posts from selected members (which I can choose by my own) and then divide it by topic?

hey there phelix. I hope things are well with you. I'm a long-time fan of your site. It's my default webpage on my mobile Smiley I was wondering if you had any plans for updating the scale for the chart with the Mining Factor (USD/24h @ 1GHash/s). I ask because after the last difficulty increase, the line's literally touching the bottom of the chart. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks!

Looks like the scale on the mining profitability chart automatically updated itself. Not sure if you did that or not, but no further action required.  Smiley
When I looked it had already updated. Damn good programming  Tongue

The page is not refreshing for me. It's the same for two days now. Deleting cookies, etc does not help.
Does anyone have the same problem?

The backend server got shut down because of a bug slowing it down to a halt. Over the easter weekend it took a while until I could reach the hoster. Things *should* be more stable now.

Btw: the long time charts are now glued together from Mtgox (up to the end of 2012) and Bitstamp (starting 2013).

Apologies if this has already been asked somewhere in the thread, but would you consider switching the data from mtgox to bitstamp? Even better maybe doing a weighted average of the top 2 or 3 exchanges combined?

.1 coin tip coming at you if done in February  Grin
I would prefer Bitstamp, too, but the switch would mean quite some work. Also I am missing historic data for Bitstamp. Thanks for the offer, I will give it some more thought. The code certainly needs some cleanup, too.

edit:
hey friend love the site any way to easily change PRICE[USD] in blue on the last two charts to scale 0-1500 or even 0-2000 would help us get a better look. similar to the way the bids vs asks operate on different scales.
Yah, atm it is hard to see anything. I thought about making the scales log...   might take a while, though.

Yeah I agree that bitcoin markets can be like that. You always have to use your own judgement, but this problem exist everywhere and with every currency. Don't you think that companies that receive money can do something good with it and everyone can benefit from it?
I really thinks its possible for everyone to benefit from raising funds, I think of stock markets like Kickstarter but with potential to earn money on your investment.

This addition would make your site perfect.

Thank you for this highly helpful site!

Any plans to do the graphs with BitStamp instead of MtGox? I don't find the MtGox exchangerate authoritative any more.
Either add the same as a BitStamp version, or get done with MtGox altogether ;-)

Especially the order book depth is what I fancy here.
I'll have to ask ferroh exactly the same too ;-)

Cheers!

Ente
I thought about it but it's a lot of work. I would much more prefer if gox would get things fixed.

Thanks for considering.
I prefer and hope MtGox doesn't gain 90% market share again. Nor any other single exchange.
But yeah, MtGox getting their stuff together, and be one among many major exchanges would be a good scenario.

Ente
Agreed, MtGox dominance was bad. We need a decentralized exchange.

Should we remove the scam accusations board? It might be important for traders but it is starting to annoy me...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0

I would personally prefer no topics or subforums to be banned at all - including the bidding/auction boards - because if there's an auction I'm missing then looking on blockchained is a good way to find it.

Is there any way that donators can have a page available with no topics/forums banned, and the topics just in one big list of popularity (not subcategories - like the old days)?

about the bid and ask sum graph: can you change it that they are either scaled the same way or set the y axis minimum to zero? what are you using for rendering, matplotlib? if it's that, share the axis for both. thx Wink
hmm sharing the y-axis in the 15 days graph would make the btc curve real small.

In the longer term graph the y axis minimum is zero for both curves - again with the same scale you can see nothing on the btc curve.

There is a factor of 130 between the curves after all.

I prefer to make my own mind up about which topics I ignore, can you please keep the top ten topics neutral.  Keeping the list current quickly becomes unmaintainable and you might be accused of bias.  As a previous (double) donator of bitcoin to you, I think my vote counts here.  What do other people think?

Any news on adding ".new#new" on the end of the hyperlinks?  Right now I'm doing it manually through copy and paste Smiley

Will
That's a good point. I will always try to keep the list as neutral as possible. It is understandable, though that people are bothered (and contact me about it) when several topics are FUD, especially repeatedly from the same users.

I have prepared a new method of banning topics. It also allows to ban specific users as topic starters from the list. All banned topics and banned topic starters (should I make use of this feature) will be posted in this thread.

Transisto suggested to make several top 5 lists for different categories like speculation, mining, altcoins, etc.. I think this is a good idea and I want to give it a try with one or two categories (might take some time). Another thing would be a separate list of topics voted on. Users could vote by writing !top+1! within a thread.

Thanks for the donations. I will take a look at the .new thing right now.

please leave the board list as it is - or if you change it then provide an option (set by persistent cookie) to revert.  Sometimes the speculation articles are the most interesting...  What would be really useful is a direct link to 'newest posts' but I realised that's not possible by SMF design (unless you know a way)

Cheers

Will

Thanks for your feedback. Maybe I will do something like very new users don't count.

The link to newest posts is easily possible and I am willing to do it but am too lazy / distracted  Grin  Will try.

just to be clear, I mean that when I click on 'show new replies to your posts' and then I click on the blue [NEW] icon - it takes me to the newest post, for me.  I had a brief look and it seems like the 'show new replies to your posts' page is dynamically generated from SMF data not easily accessible via API - it wasn't just a matter of e.g. adding ;#new on the end of the URL (e.g. with vBulletin).  But if you could work out a way of doing this, that would be good.

Not suggesting that you add 'newest posts' to blockchained - this is already well covered by 'show unread posts since last visit'

Will

just to be clear, I mean that when I click on 'show new replies to your posts' and then I click on the blue [NEW] icon - it takes me to the newest post, for me.

This is the old btccharts site right?   Any chance of bringing back the old theme?  That black is killing me 😄
You mean some other site. Black will stay for now. Condolences.  Tongue

Oh right, weird, because it's exactly the same (I mean exactly the same), but black.

please leave the board list as it is - or if you change it then provide an option (set by persistent cookie) to revert.  Sometimes the speculation articles are the most interesting...  What would be really useful is a direct link to 'newest posts' but I realised that's not possible by SMF design (unless you know a way)

Cheers

Will

There might be some downtime today or tomorrow. Will try to keep it as short as possible.

Argh! My homepage!!!

I came here to whine, but I see you already warned us. Thanks for keeping this great site going Smiley
Hmm... such a long time really was not what I head in mind.

After all it was not that my webhoster broke mod_python again but I had missed a problem when updating to the new MtGox ticker version... that caused some trouble and stalled the site.  Roll Eyes

My rant: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.1688171

Because I first thought it was mod_python's fault again I got an idea how to do things without it which should make things more stable. It's done already but might need some tweaking.

Sorry, site was down for a couple of hours. Server full  Roll Eyes

Just kidding! I really enjoy having the top 16 topics listed, especially on days I can't spend forever on the forum  Smiley

I had ordered more server space and found out the hard way: "Changes to the package deactivate the python engine." Oh well, python is not their first language.

Hopefully I will soon find the time to move everything to the new vServer the backend is running on already.

And now: 20 USD/BTC     cheers.  Cheesy

playing with eMail alerts for the top16 topics. currently at a low trigger score of 100.

if you donated, send an email to alert@ to get alerts. (you will probably have to look for them in your spam folder).
