Higher betting odds means lower chances of winning, that simply tells that wherever this fight will be held, Canelo will still remain as the favorites to win the fight. Man, look at the betting odds below, it look like Murata has no chance of winning the fight.

Hey, what are you talking about here?

Are you aware we are not even talking about Canelo Alvarez?

You are looking at an old article published almost two years ago about the possibility of a Canelo-Murata match. It did not even push through. Those odds were not even posted by bookmakers and sports betting sites because there was no Canelo vs. Murata match.

The odds of GGG vs. Murata is highly in favor of GGG with 1.16 and Murata with 4.60.

Currently, the poll in this thread has favored GGG to 23 votes and zero votes for Murata. Indeed, GGG is really the crowd favorite wherever I read about this match.
According to their record GGG has the experience and knockout advantage compared to Murata. GGG's record is 41-1 (36 KOs) while Murata's record is 16-2 (13 KOs). Both their KO rate have frankly small gaps, 88% and 81% respectively. So that leaves GGG to have the upper hand in this fight but he will have to endure and overcome the challenge of fighting the opponent in his own country where Murata is viewed as hero and a gold medalist in boxing during the olympics.
Feel sorry for those who had high hopes for Murata to win because this wont gonna happen even though he viewed as a Hero and  gold medalist but wont really be that enough to beat out GGG and its no surprise that users on this forum had the same impression too and if you do talk about experience
then  its a huge gap and even KO percentage is almost the same but those numbers wont really able to be justified out but GGG shouldnt really
be that confident because we know that there is some sort of lucky punch that we do know.

^ Well in recent memories, Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn in Australia. The fight was held there and despite what the majority saw in the fight, it was the judges who awarded the win to Jeff Horn.

So you can't discount the fact that probably a hometown decision could really favour Murata here. So GGG really needs to go out and try to knockout Murata early so that it won't go to the judges in the end. He needs a clear victory here.

I am least bothered by the possibility that the judges' scorecards will be the final say in this fight. I am in admiration of GGG's boxing skills and power so I don't think Murata is a threat. The way I assess both fighters, they are not on the same level. GGG belongs to a higher class of boxers. I am hoping that GGG will be able to show that he is still the young fighter and simply knock Murata out. But if he fails that and the decision will have to reflect how the judges saw the fight, I still believe GGG will win unanimously.

He needs to show it convincingly though, it there is a close round then maybe the judges will sway it to Murata. And we all know that judges saw the fight differently as compare to us who are watching it live on TV.

So if GGG can't knock-out Murata, he should at least be clear in winning the rounds and show be stepping up the numbers so that there will be no doubt in the judges eyes that he is clearly the winner.

With the power of GGG, he will likely win by KO than by decision and being a professional boxer for so long, I'm sure he also knows that when he fought in a different country, usually the hometown boxer will be favored, so he must win convincingly but to be safe, it should be by KO.

But for some fighters who had a fight on their opponents territory there's always a chance that the judges scorecards has a final say to the fight even if the fighter performs his best inside the ring. I have seen a betting odds that Murata has a high betting odds than GGG and maybe it's because they already considered the factor that the event will be happen at Murata's territory. Though I do also believe on the potential of GGG I think it's way better if he could knock out Murata.

I hope so that playing on the home country, Murata somehow gained a boost. If only his previous fights have the same intensity and level as GGG, I can say that he has an edge to take GGG in a close bout but I don't see it that way.

Murata is against a monster. Want to see how he will deal at it and show the community what he got.

Boost from the fans, though personally I doubt that he can get closer to GGG as this monster knows how to use all his advantage, regarding to age gap, GGG still active and he will not allow that, he still got good stamina and the way he fight that close range fighting strategy he can use that to lock Murata and take a KO combo to knock him down.

Hopefully Murata will show something for the fans, just don't let GGG beat him in an easy way.

He is fighting in front of his pride to give something to the fans, let's wait and watch.. Cool Wink

We can also based a boxer based on his last performance, and so far GGG is still fighting hard at his age. Nevertheless, no one can fight father time, even the great Manny has fallen victim to it.

So if GGG gets old overnight, then maybe Murata has a chance, but if GGG continue to become of the best middleweight even at his age then for sure even if the fight is made in Japan, GGG will go for a KO.
I think we are still going to see a good fighter on GGG, however while where the fight is held should have no effect at all on how the judges score the fight we know this has a huge effect and the fight will be held at Japan.

So if GGG wants to be sure to win this fight then he cannot allow for the judges to decide the outcome of it and he needs to go for the knockout, and if he fails then he at least needs to score a knock down or two, to make sure there is no chance the judges can steal the fight from him.
Judges manipulative   kind of act? Not surprising specially if this one would be held on Japan which do favor on Murata but we know that fans or viewers on the entire world

isnt blind on whats happening inside the ring or simply those actions and if this ends up on split decision plus having that Murata would be the winner despite that GGG

had owned him then that would raise up lots of questions to be rigged or cooked. So its less likely to happen imho.

There's probably enough time, I mean look at Pacquiao he's still fighting although a looming consideration of retirement. I think it's still not that bad that GGG is still fighting, I mean look at this perspective, see those years as experience accumulated which is an advantage rather than a disadvantage.
Yes experience matter and it's an advantage in all sorts of sports even though the fighter is quite aging already. But wether we like it or not, aging process can be your weakness even tho GGG is just a 39 yrs old veteran fighter and his opponent is 35 and still on his prime.
On the other hand, Murata is also a beast and this fight wil take place in his country. That is also an advantage in Murata's favor.

4 years isn't a big age gap so I don't think it would have a huge impact on the entire match. GGG is well experience and I think that's his edge on this fight. What Murata needs to do is to try more strategies to counter GGG's aggressivenessinn the ring.

I agree with you, the truth Murata can be a surprise if you decide to establish a very precise strategy and that you do not get out of it, but of course GGG's aggressiveness is far superior even above any strategy that they pose to him, for me it is Murata's main strategy must be in his training, if his training before the fight is above normal the results can be seen in the ring, but that is more psychological, although if I were Murata I would not hesitate to exploit my body with the maximum effort to be able to do that fight of mine, only with that strategy is the only one that can counteract the aggressiveness of GGG.

Despite his age, he is still healthy and looks young and he still has a chance to make KO if given a chance. He is not that old as Manny so probably GGG can throw a heavy punch that could win him even if there is no KO happening during their fight. It was still the majority are in favor of him knowing that he still has the capability to win and od like old times being in the ring. Perhaps, if we base on his last fight, we can really figure out what will be the possible outcomes but of course, we can't underestimate his opponent as he is also a belt holder that could aslo beat someone if given a chance.

I am not saying that he will forget how to fight but that he could come a little bit rusty and against a fighter like GGG that can be more than enough to secure him a win.

Regardless of Murata is active or not within the past 2 years, I already pointed out his experience is lacking compared to GGG. Murata's total fight was 16 against Canelo's 43 with almost a clean record, the gap was too wide. Murata just also consider to bout with GGG because he filled the vacant slot that was left by Canelo as we know the latter is moving up a weight class. Again as I previously mentioned, Murata got the full WBA Super Middleweight champion not by fighting for it. The fight against GGG is his first fight since attaining that title.

Right, and the level of opposition of GGG as compare to Murata is very diferent. GGG has far fight superior level of boxers, while I would say that Murata only B-level fighters. And add that to his ring rust and inactivity for 2 years and we will see that GGG has all the advantage. The only thing that has on Murata is that he is fighting on a familiar territory, because this fight will be in Japan.

Agree with you. GGG is by far I think Murata's most strong opponent he will face. He doesn't have any experience yet fighting a strong opponent with the same level of GGG. Unlike GGG that already experience fighting the most dominant in his weight class.

Even at age almost 40, I don't see that as a hindrance for GGG. Murata has no chance to beat GGG but that will be a good experience for him.

GGG is active in boxing. His routine training and exercise keep him away from being rusty that's why we can't take his age will bring weakness. Unlike Murata that is not active for a couple of years. Murata is a beast? I don't think so. Fighting in Japan is also not an advantage. There's no such thing as that in boxing as the sports are played individually. If a boxer can't really stand against a much strong power, regardless of the home, that's it.

Inspiration, will, courage that the crowd will give to their supported boxer is not enough. It really needs a literal physical strength to win.

GGG seems to have all the advantages right now, but we don't know what kind of preparation Murata is doing for this upcoming fight. About a month left, and we will see that inside the ring. But I am not surprised why all the voters in this poll are all in for GGG. Upset for this match seems to be far also. Anyway, if GGG wins here, he may very well announce his retirement for this sports.
