It's funny how 3 drinking buddies suddenly becomes 3 senior boxing analysts after some beers while watching the Pacquiao versus Ugas fight.  Grin
Then got drunk afterward.
So you were watching the fight with your buddies and had a great time. I missed the live fight and was watching the highlights and it was a surprise that Yordenis Ugas won but not shocked.

Ugas was good at letting Pacman know how far the distance is with his reach. While Pacquiao got irritated with those itchy jabs.
I think it's a great fight but the preparation was too short. It could have been better if they have trained more knowing who the opponent is with more time.
We still enjoyed it though, the intensity is different when it's Pacquiao fighting in the ring.
Both had a short preparation for each other and i think it is fair for Yordenis Ugas as i am not sure whether he was even preparing for a fight but Manny was preparing for a fight. The reach difference was evident and Manny did not look that fast like he used to.

As of recent news, Ugas will accept a rematch.
Why not, for Yordenis Ugas this is the biggest platform he got and may be the biggest payday of his life. He will be accepting a rematch for the payday.

And this is why is was worried about, I posted in this thread that Manny could have problems due to the short time he had to figure out how to fight Ugas and that if things come to worst he will have to do it in the ring and that is precisely what happened, Ugas fought in a very smart way, he was able to defend himself successfully and he was able to use his advantage on the length of his arms to keep Manny away, even then the fight was close so if Manny wants a rematch he can win the next time but he also needs to adjust his boxing as he said that his muscles did not respond as he wanted them, and it is obvious that this is because he is 42 years old already and his body cannot move as it did a decade before.

I didn't have time to watch the match live, but after seeing the highlights  boy did that height advantage come in handy for Yordenis Ugas! Manny Pacquiao stood no chance, his age not much of a factor but his height let him down and even should that people were calling this an upset....sorry but the Pac-Man got beat clean.

I guess it's time for the man to retire while the sport has some respect left for him to concentrate on his political career.

As this may be his last boxing match which i hope, the pacman is still going to be in the Category of the Greatest of All time fighters for me. He has had a great run.
This should be the last fight of Manny Pacquiao as there is nothing to prove and there is no point in fighting at the age of 43 and i thought Yordenis Ugas was the right opponent because i never gave him a chance against Errol Spence Jr even though i wanted Manny to win as a fan and watching him fight as long as i remember.

Now it is time he can focus full time in politics and hopefully he will stand in the upcoming elections.
He's still 42years old actually, I don't think he's ready to retire and if you study Pacman very you'll see that it is not about him proven something but he's a fighter that doesn't like to turn down every challenge, and Errol maybe the one to pay for his lost to Ugas if he still chooses to fight him.

He is lucky to still fighting at that age, he was the oldest champion in the welterweight division and there's nothing to prove anymore. Though he did not say he will retire, we've seen enough from him, he was dominated in the fight and that is the first time I saw him being hurt so much though he still stands until the end of the 12 rounds.

Having said that, I like his honest statement after the fight and it is sad it lost though cause a lot of people will lose so much money through the fight.
While those who back him to win loses money, those who back the underdog won a good amount of money, nothing to be sad, that is gambling, you win or lose, it's just a matter of acceptance and understanding the risk.

I read somewhere that Pacquiao intends to run for president of the Philippines (I sincerely doubt he will win if he goes this way), is that true or some unfounded rumor ?
that's what all the news media says here in the Philippines. and yeah, I agree, I doubt he'll win the run for the presidency his popularity isn't enough to make that happen, and his performance as a senator won't help either since as far as I know it wasn't good or great but not the worst.

congratulations for the great victory of Ugas
yeah, this is a great victory for Ugas and he deserved it.

i dont think we need a rematch for this fight. pacquiao needs to retire while he can, no heavy damage on his health or of that sort. look at his trainer freddie roach, one of his interviews in manny's documentary movie , he regretted that he didnt listen to Eddie Futch, as he had no management during his last 6 fights, and he was thinking that maybe he would be completely different, maybe he wouldn't have parkinsons. so it means, somehow, he had some regrets.
manny has nothing to prove anymore, so he should listen to his body and enjoy the rest of his life with his family. even legends retire from their throne.

It was a unanimous decision win by Ugas, it's not a controversial fight as fans are very much convinced that Ugas won the fight. Great job by Team Ugas for making a perfect strategy on how to beat Pacquiao, he was moving well but he can't get in due to Ugas effective use of his jab and his length.

Fans are happy anymore with his achievement, he doesn't have to prove anything, time to have a full time with his family as the boxing world will never forget the legend in sport.

that was a great fight on Ugas's side. although I am heavily rooting for Pacquiao and am disappointed that he lost, I am impressed with how Ugas took advantage of his reach against Pacquiao and put Pacquiao at bay and not letting him dominate the fight. it really is time for Pacquiao to retire, his stamina quickly depleted on the mid and later rounds which would not have happened especially on how the pace of the match on his fight with Ugas.

I had already commented here that Pacquiao would lose, the resistance factor weighs a lot when you have an older age, I read somewhere that Pacquiao intends to run for president of the Philippines (I sincerely doubt he will win if he goes this way), is that true or some unfounded rumor ? congratulations for the great victory of Ugas

He did not make an official statement yet about his retirement but his speech in the post-fight interview seemed to show that he is done in boxing.
The exact words he said after the fight.

Yes, I also read several sources after this defeat, big questions arose about Pacquiao's future and before against Ugas he was rumored to be retiring and when confirmed about this Pacquiao did not want to answer clearly, because he needs to rest for some time.

I really regret Pacquiao's defeat against Ugas who only lost narrowly and for whatever reason, including canceling against Errol Spence, maybe it was his destiny to retire from the world of boxing because he was no longer young.

WTF? What actually happened? How did Yordenis Ugás won the fight? This is like the worst thing that can ever happen to Manny Pacquiao. If he had lost to Spence, then it was still OK. But a loss to Ugas? It is really difficult to digest the outcome of this match. I understand that Manny, at 42 years was well past his prime. But we have seen other boxers like Mayweather giving very good performances even in their 40s. Anyway, I am glad about one thing. This time the jury didn't made any mistake. Their scorecard (115-113, 116-112, 116-112) matched with those from third parties like CBS Sports.

The match between Pacman vs. Ugas was very exciting to watch and nothing short of my expectation . Big congrats to Ugas for winning and also the pacman for giving it his best even though he was not completely fit and age is already telling on him. As this may be his last boxing match which i hope, the pacman is still going to be in the Category of the Greatest of All time fighters for me. He has had a great run.

After this fight, I regret even more about canceling the fight with Spence - I was going to bet on Spence and obviously I would have won. I did not dare to bet on Ugas, although the odds for his victory were attractive. I think the result of this fight is another confirmation that the bookmakers are trying to catch the mood of the crowd and squeeze out the odds according to this, and not according to the real forces of the opponents. The odds on both of Pacquiao's opponents were seriously overestimated and it was profitable to bet on them.
Do you think you would have won? Manny was training for Spence and while I do think Manny should have beaten Ugas even with short notice because he is one of the most talented boxers around I do think Manny would have beaten Spence because he was already training for him and it is clear that he still has the skills. I do not think Manny lost this fight because it was short notice at least that being the sole reason I think it was a combination of taking it on short notice and not being able to train for his opponent and him getting older and slowing down in the later rounds. I think if he was fighting Spence he would have known when to engage and would have saved energy then his age would not play such a big part in the fight like it did yesterday.

Yes, I'm sure I would have won. For Ugas, this was also an unexpected fight and he was able to prepare in a short time and win as few expected - on points, it turns out that he was able to outbox Pacquiao. Taking into account that Spes was also preparing for Pacquiao, then the fight with Spence would not have been easier for Pacquiao at all, but more difficult - due to the fact that Spence is in his prime.

Maybe we will not be able to see Pacquiao fight again, with his performance in this fight, there's no doubt that his body cannot take heavier punches anymore, and this is a great win by Ugas as he now has a chance to fight the best in the Division, who knows, we might see an Ugas vs Crawford fight, that would be interesting to watch.

Spence had a better chance, but still I would not be 100% sure. I made a bet in favor of Thurman a couple of years ago, and I lost. Now I would be very cautious before making a bet against Manny Pacquaio. Spence on paper looks like the perfect opponent for Pacquaio. He is in his prime age, and has an unbeaten record. But Yordenis Ugas? To be honest he doesn't even have 1% chance of winning a fight against Manny. I would not consider betting in his favor, even if the odds are greater than 10.
Wait mate !! on What basis have you make that statement that Ugas has no even 1% chance of winning this fight?
Ugas is a Olympic medalist , and even has a good record comparing to Spence , and the reach is also his advantage .

Why would a Boxer will not even having 1% chance of winning when the truth is? each Boxer has a Punch in which can bring down each other if giving a chance to land in perfect timing so all boxers in the ring has 50/50 chances .

1% is very small, but that is his opinion only, just like the bookmakers, the odds they provide do not entirely say the chances of winning in the fight as it could be overvalued or undervalued. It's just that in this fight, people looked up to Manny as too superior against Ugas as he won his last fight against a more popular boxer which is Thurman.
