Not a cherry pick but probably a tune up fight for Loma before facing Haney, assuming both of them win.

Hehehe similar reply to @bittraffic, not probably. It certainly is only a tune up fight before his next one in the ring which I speculate might not be for the championship against the winner of Haney vs. Kambosos. It might be Lomachenko's next fight after Ortiz that will be the official championship eliminator. The opponent might also be one of the top 5 ranked lightweight boxers with a name. Ryan Garcia or Isaac Cruz?

Yup, it is going to be a tune up, but I guess he can still directly go to whoever wins in the Haney vs Kambosos fight. He is the original opponent of Kambosos after all. So after this, I'm not expecting Loma to go to another fight and fight for a eliminator. And hopefully it will be Haney because of the style of this two. Let's see if haney can solved the enigma of the Matrix or Hi-Tech, hehehe.

My best odds guess:
Loma 1.10
Ortiz  5.00

Its going to be as close to Steve Shakur vs Robson fight. Arum seals Ortiz fate the he has to undergo a tough fight against a 6th P2P boxer while Ortiz stands up like a 4rounder boxer. He is a young fighter (26yo), probably have a brighter future but is sentenced to be KOed.

Do you have a source of that odds? If that's the correct odds going to this fight, I think it's very obvious that Loma will easily win this fight, and as usual, that would hype his name especially if they are cooking for a big fight after this.

I thought the WBO preserved Lomachenko as its mandatory due to the war in Ukraine? And even before this announcement, Top Rank already guaranteed undisputed champ Haney that he will take Lomachenko after his Kambosos fight, it also said that Lomachenko will have a tune-up fight too. So this should be that tune-up fight. Ortiz is an exciting fighter although his low KO rate might mean that Loma can be more aggressive to score a KO.

I knew these Ukrainian fighters aren't really at their 100% until the war is over. But I hope it is still enough to secure their wins. Boxing fans, stay tuned to this weekend's heavyweight championship rematch between Loma's very close friend Oleksandyr Usyk battling against former champ Anthony Joshua.

It appears that it has been decided already. Thank you for correcting me. I had hoped that we see a championship eliminator between 2 big names in the lightweight division because Devin Haney already has 4 of the belts and he certainly deserves a bigger event, I reckon. However, Lomachenko is a big name for our young champion. If he wins this he deserves to fight the biggest names in the division, King Ray and Tank.

@cabron. I speculate 7.00 or 8.00 for Ortiz if Lomachenko is 1.10 hehehe.

Man! I thought I never see him again since he really get home to depend on his country and there was a tendency that he might not return to boxing again. But wow! look at this he will gonna have a fight again. This is another good fight this year since Loma is undoubted will gonna give the spectators some real boxing match here. Ortiz also is a strong opponent and it would be a real challenge for Loma to get back on track.

Not probably the fight for fans expecting Loma to fight someone on the upper rank. It wouldn't really make a difference if Loma just wait for whoever wins like Kambosos vs Haney. He couldn't demand a rematch with Lopez while Kambosos can with Haney. So what did Jamaine Ortiz do to Top rank that he got this tune-up fight for Loma's come back?

Maybe he can't wait for the result of that fight and that's why Bob Arum look for someone that might be a challenge for Loma. But as we've seen, Loma doesn't need to have like a tune-up fight, he dominates Nakatani and knock him out in the 9th round.

Ortiz is with the Top Rank stable so for sure Arum want's every money on him again, as it will be a all in house fight. Easy negotiations, or maybe there is none, perhaps Ortiz just verbally agrees on the fight and then Loma travel to the US and now looking for a October date.

This could be what happened in the side lines. Arum is just looking to milk his fighters every way they can. A very good opportunity for Ortiz, and perhaps a good warm-up for Loma. Props to this dude declining a possible huge paycheck when he was prepped to fight with Kambosos Jr. to fight for his country. A lot of fans would have watched that bout and he'll earn good no matter the outcome is. Hopefully we get to see the fruition of that fight. Right now, Ortiz's chances are not that good, but maybe he can drag the fight until the twelfth round and win by decision, who knows?

It's just his way of being active again, maybe after this fight, a big fight is coming, just like Ryan Garcia, when he came back to boxing, he didn't fight big names right away, he choose some boxers that could test if he is ready and now after winning 2 fights, I can say he is very much ready for a big fight.

Loma will clearly win this fight, no doubt with that, the question is only whether a KO or via decision.

I guess what interest us more is how is Loma after his long break again, remember that after his lost to Lopez, he comeback strong and dominated his opponents, Nakatani and Comley.

Unfortunately, war broke out and he is supposed to fight Kambosos, but Haney was tapped and then get all his belts. So this is a tuneup as others said for Loma and hopefully he is still in his prime and that he can get back all the belts he had once held.

I see no big drama in this fight. The combination of Vasily Lomachenko and papa-chenko (that is how people call his father) will be dominant once again. I am not trying to say that Ortiz is bad, simply Lomachenko is too good and experienced. No matter that their have similar boxing record, Loma was fighting more experienced fighters all the time. I expect a TKO in the second part of the fight.

I agree I checked Ortiz's credentials his biggest so far is retiring the old Herring but when it comes to matching up in terms of who both fighters fought Loma is a clear winner, Ortiz is a young hungry fighter but Loma is a far superior fighter, Ortiz time will not be on this fight although he has a good record he needs this fight to polished his skill, I am not ruling out an upset but it will take a lot to upset Loma, he is one extraordinary fighter, we love to see him fight and he never disappoints the boxing community.

Both have 16 fights, but Jamaine Ortiz is still undefeated unlike Lomachenko who has two losses in his boxing career, however, I believe that Loma would still be listed as the favorite on the betting sites as he is more popular and has fought plenty of championship fights already.

Lomachenko had one of the most outstanding amateur boxing records, with 396 wins and just one loss. "Loma" started his professional career in 2012
Ortiz is good but his only big fight is against Herring who is past his prime compared to Loma who has fought a lot of great champions and is still at the peak of his career, Ortiz will face someone who is two times quicker and has power in both hands and so I agree on that prediction in fact it should be higher.

I think Loma will win here, Jamaine Ortiz beat Jamel Herring who lose to Stevenson via KO. He might be a quality fighter but not yet on the level of Loma, Ortiz called himself as "The Technician", but Loma is actually more than a technical boxer, so I guess that Ortiz will be in big trouble.

Jamel Herring is past his prime when he fought Ortiz if you look at their fight he is not the same Herring we've seen Ortiz is just lucky that he fought a fighter who is on the brink of retirement I don't think it will happen here Ortiz is fast quick and strong and up and coming prospect, but Loma is still in his prime and very eager to get back the title he lost to Kambosos, I think we're going to have a very good fight but I expect Loma to fully dominate this fight from start to finish, Loma knows what's at stake on this fight.

I was about to say that, when Herring lost to Shakur it was obvious that he is no longer in his prime. Not taking away from the young Ortiz, but it was a good setup for him. And now look at what opportunity he has, knocking on the doors of the great Lomachenko.

But then again, it will be hard pressed to see him winning against Loma, maybe we will see some ring rust early, but once he shake that cobwebs, Loma will be too much for the young Ortiz. And then next year, it will be Loma against Haney, that will be exciting match indeed.

It's a great opportunity for Ortiz for his young career and a good tune fight for Loma heading to the winner of the Kambosos Haney rematch even if Ortiz is good I'll pick Loma to win this fight, Loma is just good to any fighter and he is still in the peek of his career I don't see  Lopez kind of upset here in this fight, this time Loma knocks better now he cannot afford an upset this time.
