I suggest not betting now. I'd rather let a few rounds go by so I can start betting something. That way I can evaluate what each team has to show and that way we can confirm the favorites. I may be leaving money on the table, but I think this detail is important.

But what about the thrill of watching a match and having placed a bet?
Hehehe  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
At least I'll bet on Corinthians

Maybe I'll place a small bet on Mirassol winning, believing they can surprise Santos

I'm curious and I'll try to watch at least 3 matches to see how teams will play in this first round

Tomorrow is the big day for Sao Paulo, the championship will start

And take a look at the odds:

Since I've lost all my bets on the Rio de Janeiro championship, I think I'll focus on Paulistao, where I have more knowledge, but don't follow my bets hahaha
Almost all the games have very even odds, I only see Palmeiras as favorites against Portuguesa

Excellent opportunity, these state games are practically all of the biggest teams, it is very difficult for teams from the interior to cause any surprises... good opportunities to make money, in the case of Carioca, Botafogo and Flamengo games are the most "theoretically" easy to make money, after all, Marica would never beat Botafogo in this life for example.

Hahaha, you will not believe, my worst possible bets  Cheesy
Hard to believe

Botafogo and Flamengo lost their matches and Botafogo only drew against Maricá
I lost 3 bets in a row  Cheesy

I think I need to revise my bets  Tongue Tongue Tongue

Don't feel alone... I managed to lose money betting on Botafogo. I never imagined that Maricá would win this game. Thank goodness I didn't bet on Flamengo, because the team managed to lose to Boavista, unbelievable lol

This just shows how random football can be. Next time I'll bet the other way around, who knows, maybe I'll win...

It's like playing lotofacil, only the numbers I didn't play come up

I confess that I am anxious to get back to betting on the Brazilian championship. Especially for clubs that haven't changed much, this start of the championship is a great opportunity to catch these clashes between teams that are already ready and trained with teams that are still organizing themselves and clashes between big teams and small teams.

I'm sorry if it was my fault for posting about the “great” odds for the victories of the big teams from Rio de Janeiro  Embarrassed

But it's good to take this first loss to be smarter in the next rounds
I felt I was getting a great deal, but it's always good to remember that soccer surprises, it's not an exact science
To tell you the truth, I was very surprised,  Botafogo, the Libertadores and Brasileiro champions, lost to Maricá
An important detail: this is Maricá's first year in the first division of Carioca, and the team will play in Serie D in 2025.

The word "championship" attracted me to this thread and this is the first time I saw such a tournament linked to Brazil. As much as I would have loved to follow it this season to know how it goes, those names are so unfamiliar..lol. But I will give it a try.

Well, this can only be described as intriguing, we do not have many countries planning their football season this way where club games are not the limit but also state championships. Brazil, though known for its football country status, other countries should learn from it, it may spice up more competition.

In fact, football is played all year round here. And this excites and prepares the teams for the great Brazilian championship. I don't know how it works in other countries, but in my opinion it is a very good model and should serve as an example for others.

State championships in Brazil have existed for much longer than the Brazilian championship. The first state championship in Brazil took place in 1902, while the first Brazilian championship appeared in 1971. In other words, these are championships with a lot of tradition in Brazil. They are very worthwhile following and you can even make good money with bets.

For now, I'm going to bet on my club Palmeiras. Let's see if they'll start the year well with the big signings they're making now. The state championship is a great time to follow the initial performance of the first quarter.

I don't follow the Carioca championship, although I already know the teams Flamengo and Botafogo.

The Carioca championship starts today, and I've found the odds

Source

I believe that because it's the first game of the season, the odds are VERY good and favorable
I thought I was only going to bet on Paulistao, but I'm going to have to take a chance on Carioca as well  Grin

Check it out, odds of 1.83 for Flamengo to win
2.12 for Vasco to win

And you can make a good multiple for Botafogo and Fluminense wins, adding up to 2.38

Anyone else think it's a good opportunity?

There is a type of news that always appears at the end of the year / beginning of the year, which is about free players on the market, free signings that can help many clubs try to do well in the championships. This year we have some "big names" like David Luiz, Marcelo, Renê, Felipe Melo, Leandro Damião, Alexandre Pato and many others... They are usually veteran players with little market value, but they can still help many clubs... Is there any of these names that pleases anyone here? To strengthen the team you follow?

link: https://www.espn.com.br/futebol/artigo/_/id/14622342/marcelo-david-luiz-46-jogadores-sem-contrato-que-ainda-podem-reforcar-clubes-do-brasil

David Luiz, Marcelo (Champions League winner) and Alexandre Pato. They are simply great names in their positions. How could a team not want to negotiate with them? If they accept something more focused on helping the players, training, etc., it would be great. Even playing, they would be good teachers. So I believe they would only not play in Brazil if they really don't want to.

But there is also the obstacle that they are big names and need big salaries. Which is not always possible in a smaller team.

I have mixed opinions about these older, more experienced players
The weak point is that they are still expensive, because they ask for very high salaries, and they get injured a lot, so it's difficult to play every game, let alone 90 minutes

As for the strengths, for medium-sized teams they are a great addition to the squad, who can get all the experience of a great player, pass it on to the younger players, as well as gaining greater respect from the other teams, and sell more tickets and shirts.

I'm only talking about the São Paulo championship, because it's the championship I follow the most.
A player like Alexandre Pato would fit in well with a team like Botafogo SP, or Mirassol, who are on the rise in the Brazilian championship.
Marcelo would also be a great player for Santos, who are returning from the Brazilian B series
David Luiz would be a great acquisition for Guarani, Ponte Preta, Portuguesa...

Now Felipe Melo can retire at the age of 41 hahaha, I think it's about time

Marcelo and David Luiz can still play well for another season or two, while Alexandre Pato has been in a bad phase for over a decade, he only played well at the beginning of his career if you analyze it better... Felipe Melo is more talk than football... These players are good deals only for small teams which lack idols with national projection and who would help attract fans and sell shirts.

In São Paulo, I also believe in Corinthians. Because of all the success they had last year, the team is a strong candidate to be champion. I think Palmeiras is reaching the end of its phase as the best team in Brazil. The difference between Palmeiras and the others is no longer that great, and it seems to me that the team and the coach are already reaching a kind of plateau. They are no longer playing that fantastic football and the tendency is to start getting worse.

As I also believe in Corinthians, our bet won't happen hehehe  Cheesy

Exactly, in some cases it can be quite funny because a big team, with great idols, comes to a small city, in a small stadium, making the city revolve around a football match. It's really incredible. Not to mention the ways that fans like to watch the games, from buildings, on top of trees, on top of hills, etc.

This is very important for soccer, you've described it well
Small towns benefit a lot from a soccer match with a big team, it's often an opportunity that only happens once a year
Many people don't like these smaller championships, but it's very important for soccer in general, especially for the smaller teams, to gain experience, to have the opportunity to play with a crowded stadium, to feel how it is to play with against a bigger team and there other great benefits

I think the bookmakers are already starting to place bets on the Paulistao. I'll check it out soon

This is probably the best thing about the state championships, a good chance to align the team, to make some tests and to see if the team need any changes

There's another very important thing about championships
1 - Small teams play against big teams, gaining experience, attracting a large audience to their cities, so they can get a better sponsorship budget and can evolve more than just playing against small teams.
2 - a great chance to discover players with a lot of talent who could play for a big team
I had never seen it from that angle, you have a great point, there are those who think it's unfair, for example, for Vasco to play in the same group as Real Madrid in a World Cup of clubs (just one example).

Sometimes I think that knockout games are luck, because a team that is doing badly can knock out the best team in the competition (look at Corinthians, who were doing badly in the brasileirão and played well in the Sudamericana 2024).

Of course, the skills and efficiency of the coach and the club's management count a lot, as well as the team's financing.

But in your opinion, are knockout championships pure luck or a mix of both?

In the knockout stage, there is a great Murphy's Law. If a team is winning a thousand games and another is losing a thousand, the winning team can still lose if it gives the opponent any opening. So, in the knockout stage, everything must be well aligned, otherwise everything will go wrong. If the team gives room for error, there will definitely be an error.
