Why did he not do a transaction to prove it to all of us?

Why do it the simple way if you can stage a great event with the press instead?

If Gavin truly believed in what he was shown by this colorful person, he is utterly incompetent. Apart from that, you don't need to know cryptography to tell that Craig Wright is not Satoshi. Satoshi never sought public attention. He was modest, rational and calm in all respects which is the exact opposite of Craig Wright.

As always Bitcoin continues to surprise with new great entertainment... Grin

What doesn't kill you only makes you sicker!
I'm not buying the hack story... he was either authentically fooled by the dingo or he's in cahoots. If he were hacked, his posts or the entire site itself would be taken down by now, right now he wants people to see his words on that blog post.

Thanks BBC!

If that's Rory Cellan-Jones then he doesn't have the technical capability to verify a hash generated in front of him. He's a nice guy but sure as heck doesn't have the technical chops to verify.

The revolution will be monetized!
Gavin explains how Craig Wright convinced him:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/4hhecv/gavin_explains_how_craig_wright_convinced_him/

Quote
Craig signed a message that I chose ("Gavin's favorite number is eleven. CSW" if I recall correctly) using the private key from block number 1.

That signature was copied on to a clean usb stick I brought with me to London, and then validated on a brand-new laptop with a freshly downloaded copy of electrum.

I was not allowed to keep the message or laptop (fear it would leak before Official Announcement).

I don't have an explanation for the funky OpenSSL procedure in his blog post.

Did they publish this signed message later ?

Goonies never say die.
Alarming indeed.

My initial feelings here are that Gavin needs a key supporter to move people from core, even if temporary and proven to be false down the road... his prior attempts have not worked. How do you round up all of the old original community members and get them to follow you?... Bring back Satoshi and have him support your plans. I think its an attempt to harness the 'reaction' and pull one over on the bitcoin community to get them to move, I would expect Wright to soon reveal what he's been "working on" with his staff of people that don't want to be bothered and I think it will fall in line with projects that Gavin is pursuing... XT, Classic, "Unlimited"    *I'm taking off my tinfoil hat now*

But Gavin is smart enough to realise the current level of 'proof' wouldn't last an hour under scrutiny. Why would he stake his reputation on something so flimsy? Is a 12 hour window enough time time to convince core devs to do this? Wouldn't core devs check the 'proof' for themselves?

A good theory but it doesn't seem like it would be sufficient time to do what you're suggesting.

Greed clouds judgement... but I don't think he really needs the core developers, he's got a team of developers that will be paid for by Mr. Wright. He needs the community to move towards a new blockchain or fork to actually become the new "Satoshi" himself.

Well something is up, even if Craig was Satoshi and Gavin was becoming buddy buddy with him there would be no reason to announce something that has been kept hidden, except for influence. I am still leaning my bets on this being a hack by a monster of a troll.

EDIT: even if so, it could has been signed back in 2009. He have to include date in the message to prove it's signed this year.

well, the end of BTC is near once the creator was revealed . the myth that attracted people is over. BTC is like Litecoin or Shitcoin Smiley

Wha? No. I don't think that matters.

Maybe a scam attempt by Craig Wright. If Gavin truly "verified" these claims, he should stay away from Bitcoin because he is a security risk due to incompetence. Personally I've lost trust in Gavin a long time ago when he met with CIA and came up with the silly and dangerous idea of a centrally planning Bitcoin Foundation. Removing his commit access would be a first step in the right direction. Anyway he has enough altcoin projects to work on...

...all that remains to be seen is if it's real, or smoke and mirrors.

Have you read none of this thread?

Yes, I've read it all.
I think it's bullshit too, but still in the "interested to see how they answer that" phase.
I suppose I'm still a little reluctant to accept that Andresen and Matonis seemed to have bought, or are complicit in, a lie. If they have/are, the reasoning/motivation would be interesting to see.

Not that my opinion matters. Or yours.

Intelligent people are conned and manipulated all the time. In fact as illusionists like James Randi, Derren Brown, and Penn and Teller claim intelligent people can often be more easily be manipulated because their confidence prevents a healthy amount of skepticism . Additionally, Gavin has a really desperate agenda he is campaigning for and he has been very disappointed for almost 2 years. It would be trivial to manipulate this as Craig is promoting megablocks.

It is obvious that Satoshi was a group. Why did they take the name Satoshi Nakamoto? Will they give him some compensation for privacy breach?

HODLing is an art, not just a word...
Can some1 give me a clear answer: did he sign the blocks with the private key or not?

The BBC and other news outlets say yes but no evidence of it has been provided.

no $hit, news agencies don't care if the news is really true or not as long as it is a hot news.

and there is nothing hotter that this news, everybody in bitcoin world is curious to know who satoshi really is but also most of us that are using bitcoin know to ask for a signed message first and we will also detect fake satoshi

GAVIN IS COMPROMISED EXACTLY LIKE THE BBC PROPAGANDA BULLSHIT CHANNEL.

I suggest core don't get too distracted by this, there is an ongoing effort to make bitcoin centralized and it is becoming more and more obvious.
