Buying altcoins is one of good ways to doubled your money, but it's not easy to know which coin is the best for buying and when you should selling

it is an option, you can do it if you want it, investment is a very good thing for the future because it can give many advantages for you. but you should invest in the right coin. 
You are the only person that could answer your question because at the end of the day, you are still going to decide if you buy altcoins or not because the peoples decision on which to choose from are their own personal understanding on which would be more profitable to them, so if for you buying altcoins is more profitable then go for it. That's what I did though, bought altcoins then diversify them after.

Altcoins are good for investment too because it is very cheap to start especially for the beginners with a very small capital. If altcoins did not exist you will force to buy bitcoin directly which is very expensive to purchase. Eth is good to pick because most ICO's sponsor it as mode of payment for their campaigns and now secondary to bitcoin.
I favored also altcoins when holding my portfolio. Most of it was in altcoins and only 20% I think, rough estimate was in bitcoin. There are many promising altcoins especially in Etn based platform.
In my opinion its always a better option to buy some good altcoins to make good profit apart from BTC. There are very good Alt coins in the market, we can buy those & make some good profits from them. Here are details of some good Alt coins: Ethereum, Dash, XRP, XMR, LTC, these are the long run coins. It will also rise because these coins has huge potential to rise in future but I would advice you before buying any coin you should do your research as well.
I would have wanted to buy altcoins especially during ICOs because you can get so cheap coins during that time. A year or two your stock of altcoins could be worth a fortune, if your choice of altcoins are successful. That is then the big problem, how are you going to know that your altcoin will become successful in the long run. Some are even scam from the start and there's no 100% sure way to identify them. Some just failed and just become shitcoins and lose value.
My suggestion is, if you really want to buy altcoins, make a thorough research about the project and ask any expert you know about it and then make a decision for yourself. Investing in altcoins is a gamble after all so don't invest if you cannot afford to lose it.

not necessarily but no harm .. because altcoins can also be profitable ..

Why not? Well, Bitcoin is much safer and it is always a trusted coin, in fact the most trusted coin in the crypto world. But the catch is that it won't increase 100% in a day anymore because the price is already high. It takes a long time for bitcoin to double its worth, several months at least. As for altcoins, you can expect a double in value in one day. That is a good profit and so quick.
you could say that ethereum and litecoin are also very trusted and relatively stable compared to the cheaper altcoins.

You can try your luck, learn from your mistakes if you can be successful.
Investing not only in btc but in altcoins too is a good move since it is best to diversify your coins. There are also a couple of altcoins that have potential and can greatly increase your profit in long term investment. Eth, ltc, and xrp are some of the coins that are good for long term investments.
When the BTC price is stable, I suggest to buy some coins for sale.

There are great altcoins to invest to. Just remember to check and research who owns the coin. Just treat as a stock get the coins that has potential to be big in the future. Do not get coins due to hype, always research. You should also diversify your investment. Do not put all your money in one coin.

If you want to invest in altcoins try with ETH. I see the eth potential will be good in the future. i also bought some eth.
I also invest in altcoins because there are many many interesting ideas and projects in development or some already have a working product.
The risk is very high but also the reward
What i found a bit frustrating is that when bitcoin goes down almost all altcoins go down too. I hope this will change in 2018, maybe the altcoins can hold there own
