No one knows and hard to predict that ethereum defeat bitcoin but if i where you in terms of investment i would prefer to invest in undervalued coins or ICO's that have good product because when it boom the price you will gain more ethereum or bitcoin.
ETH is a very strong and promising competitor for all coins. Well, except Btc. This is my personal opinion.
The price of bitcoin is very low. In this situation, the ethereum can become the first. I think that the ethereum has enough high potential to take the first place in a coinmarketcap.
for me i choose Ethereum because of its use many ico’s use eth in their project rather than bitcoin, and for me eth has potential to rise or reach its peak price and maybe i think bitcoin is good but it need a long time than eth you can easily buy and sell when the price rise.
Its normal to see coins dropped and maybe the others rise up. They will keep like that and get used to it. I guess that ethereum could reach the top and it will need years to achieve that.
with 99.5 million in supply i don't think so that it can surpass btc with maximum supply of 21 million coins.. but this is crypto anything can happen in this world
Ethereum is a strong competitor of Bitcoin and it has a lot of strong factors that can give it the edge take over the market dominance from Bitcoin.
For now i would prefer Ethereum because of the stability of price and the demand on the market. Ethereum offers a fast transaction with lesser fees. But i doubt bitcoin will again rise after the Lightning Network will be fully implemented and working.
I am sure Ethereum will reach the peak because what I see from Sunday yesterday the price of altcoin keeps going up and so I still hope for bitcoin can go up in the future even though this year is not bitcoin year but I am sure in the coming year bitcoin will come back skyrocketing as it was in the year 2017 ago

The demand is increasing but the prices are same because Ethereum hard cap is infinite which means they can be mined for a long time and extend their value till they want.
Ethereum is popular because there are many new coins using ERC20 technology. The number of altcoins joining ETH network is increasing. This increases the "ETH's influence" and "dependence on ETH". In other words, ETH's own technology has made it popular and grow, after bitcoin.
I prefer ETH, because it has more stability compared with bitcoin, maybe it's because the price is not high, so if if the price drops after ICO we can hold until the price is stable, and it will soon improve.
Price of Btc is keep going down.

Well Ethereum is good competitor of Bitcoin and Ethereum is already topmost coin in the alternative coins because of its fast technology.Many upcoming ICOs used ERC20 technology.The future of Ethereum is very bright and upcoming years it will reach the height and the price will grow up.
I personally choose to participate in good ICO projects and never regretted it

ETH will be in top level within top coins but Not to BTC because of unlimited supply in block chain
Over time, with the ethereal stability can increase continuously. Eth is the second largest value after bitcoin, now ICO projects use ETH platform, I think this is a promising coin and great potential in the future.
I personally prefer Ethereum and I'm pretty sure he can catch up with BTC on market share. That's how I see these things.
