In software industry, dev can update their product anytime, anywhere. Software in blockchain are inamovible because the blockchain is decentralised. It need a lot of security. Whitout it, you have DAO, parity etc. So, keep it simple or do better audit. It can be a hardtime for ethereum if it doesn't found a proper balance for smart contract.

It has huge flip potential and I strongly support it. There are still many bugs behind it but Vitalik is really doing a great job. I do believe it has potential to be really big, even bigger than it is now but only time will tell.
Even though bitcoin is bound to be number 1, it will soon become a valuable asset not for trading purposes.

The etherium of the transaction is faster than that of bitcoin, this gives him a chance to become a leading coin compared to other crypto-currencies.

Over the past few years, Bitcoin has become the hallmark of crypto currencies, being the first popular currency as well as the most popular, and has attracted many to invest. Bitcoin has made quite a few millionaires, and has attracted the watchful eye of governments and rich entrepreneurs alike.

As bitcoin rose in value, it spurred the creation of many other cryptocurrencies, including litecoin, Dash and ZCash. However, among the thousands of alternative coins, or altcoins, none have gained as much traction as a new competitor who entered the market early 2015: Ethereum. Similar to other currencies in the sense it was probably inspired by Bitcoin, Ethereum, provides a key additional function that many other currencies lack: uses outside of a peer to peer transaction base.

But does Ethereum really have the potential to overtake Bitcoin?

I think only ethereum has the potential to compete with bitcoin, maybe the ethereum is still very stable and only slightly increased. but maybe in the next 3-4 years, ethereum will be something big as do bitcoin. ethereum only takes time to reach it all, I am very sure of it.
Yes ethereum is the one of the coin that can compete but in the way on surpassing bitcoin i dont think so that ethereum can do that i always trust on bitcoin and ethereum but not in a way that i beleive that it can surpass bitcoin , they have both make a name here ethereum stand by itself no oofend but not in a way to surpass the number and most trusted coin.

I think Yes but not today. Some Altcoins has the potential of being the next Bitcoin in the future. Bitcoin is the most expensive cryptocurrency today so people could only afford Altcoins for their investments.

Well, if things like this keep happening, it will be a long time yet before ETH can claim the mantle of crypto king.

Although Ethereum is a good coin but I don’t think Ethereum can overtake Bitcoin. BTC is the market leader and always be.

I don't think it could overtake bitcoin at all.  Ethereum's problems are worse than that of bitcoin ie. scalability and security. Another thing is bitcoin has always been the pioneer of cryptocurrency so it is just as natural that newbie investors would put their money in it first, Ethereum being only an option.

in my opinion, yes, ethereum have the possibility to outpace bitcoin.Just like bitcoin,  ethereum may explode in value,it has many capabilities compared to what bitcoin can do.  Ethereum has more chance to be the representative and the typical cryptocurrency of the society, because of its features like being used for building applications and the transactions can be done within just a minute, although Bitcoin is more valuable . Ethereum's value didnt spike yet like bitcoin but it is prefered because of it being stable, also anyone can mine ethereum which is not possible in bitcoin but it is high risk high reward.

No altcoin can surpass bitcoin they're even having a hard time proving theor worth especially bitcoin has gained much attraction from merchants and other countries accepted it. In terms of price value and market cap with $120 billion it has far surpassed altcoin and at the same time decreasing they're price.

This is a great discussion.   How does BTC having a limited supply and ETH does not affect the future market cap of the two coins?

Ethereum is the second coin that is currently popular after bitcoin is true that Ethereum has become one of the magnets for investors who want to invest in crypto. The fundamental question of what you have explained above is whether Ethereum will be able to grab bitcoin to be the first crypto currency and to match bitcoin in the future. Based on the above question I think my prediction for that is that until now there will not be any of the other coin types that will be able to exceed the bitcoin value to date. I can summarize this because I think bitcoin is an icon where the very first crypto type in the crypto world is a virtual investment that most investors demand for investing. this I say because based on history where from the beginning of the growth of bitcoin as crypto currency and then followed by some other altcoin species and until now can not match the greatness of bitcoin. and then I think that nowadays there are many people who want to run an offline business with payment system using bitcoin, and I think that also makes bitcoin can be very great until now. with the presence of this, of course, this means it will make the demand for bitcoin more and epeknya of course will further strengthen the value of bitcoin itself.

My answer is yes. There is nothing bitcoin is used for that ethereum can not also be used for. The smart contract capacity of ethereum network for all intent and purpose make ethereum to valuable more than bitcoin or in terms of real life use.

Yes, ethereum most definitely can. If they manage to scale faster and better, it might end up being the most used coin, and that would drive the price up to the point where it would become the #1 cryptocurrency in terms of market cap.

Bitcoin has the brand advantage, most of the "average joes" that have heard of it have yet to understand of even know that Ethereum exist... But it can't rely solely on this fact for the upcoming 5-10 years.

Thats right possiblility is inevitable.
Bitcoin has found its own way to grow but ethereum has been doing that too in its own way in the alternate cryptocurrencies.
But time will take to be long, as it was not the first like bitcoin. I agree with 10 years but there is also possibility that ethereum wont be able to surpass bitcoin.
Again possibilities is many but chances varies.
