Definitely, you haven't thought about or bothered to research on what Bitcoin is and how it works underneath it, you shouldn't just look at the price then you are probably concerned more about it rather how popular it is. It won't definitely be worth zero, but there would be turmoils with the prices, it's never constant because there are buyers and sellers who want's different prices, etc.

Lol, I have thought about this too but not to this extreme. . I think the chance of this happening is little maybe 2%. Most likely will happen to most Altcoin than Bitcoin.

I do not want to spam because this thread is already very old, but it made me curious about how much negativity there is about bitcoin

why so many people are so pessimistic...

If you read my post, have you seen the current bitcoin price?

I believe there is a very small possibility that bitcoin will become worthless but considering d500 reply, I do agree that every user  can contribute so that bitcoin value will not drop to zero.  And with the current trend, it is more likely that bitcoin will even increase in value in the next days due to the hype and new funds coming in when Australia officially accepted Bitcoin as money.

Bitcoin is, in fact, one of the few assets where every single user can contribute that its value is NOT dropping to zero.

Simply accept it as a medium of exchange for your work or your private trades - everybody sometimes sells things (like used furniture etc.). If many people follow your example, the network of BTC acceptance will grow and the possibility it drops to zero will drop to zero, too (at least it will tend against zero Wink ). Everybody who is accepting BTC for real goods & services can be seen as a "backer" of the Bitcoin value (see this proposal for an attempt to "systematize" this concept).

While it's theoretically possible for the price of Bitcoin to equal zero, there's a far greater chance of it increasing tenfold.

Just be patient. Don't ever sell unless you absolutely must.

This. Its theoretically possible, but the likelihood of it, is impossible. Bitcoin price is going strong and there is no way to go down to 0. But the chance of it increasing in the near future is likely. So just hold on your bitcoin, and if you can buy in small portion only and observed in the next coming months what value gives your investment to bitcoin.

Considering the current valuation hope you are holding 0.02 btc and the possibility of the coin reaching zero is impossible at this moment, since this is a high volatile market you could see the price swinging in both directions and with the speculation that the price would go up further in coming years suggest that your coins are safe .
Price swings is the common factor with bitcoin as well the other digital currencies. Never and ever the value of bitcoin goes nothing considering the ongoing price increase. The early adopters could have never expected such a big growth, but the trust has paid them. Same is required everytime with every user.

The fluctuations in the price of bitcoin can occur several times a day. The price is constantly changing then up and down. For cryptocurrency, this is normal. This is the risk. If you buy at a high price and then sell at a low price, you will lose money

The only way that could make btc drop to 0 would be a technical mistake inside.
Something that would make btc completely unusable.
Unless that it won't drop to 0. It can loses a lot value but can't drop completely.

So you are worried of $40 worth of BTC?have you thought of people who own thousands of BTC? Cheesy
Bitcoin is meant to be held. Just forgot about your coins and in a couple years this $40 could be worth $400.
Still, 0.016 BTC it is not exactly amount you need to worry about. Just hold it forever.

It will just be lesser than $40 but not a 0.
It could even go way higher than that. You might want to add more to feel the profit in it.
If you doubt it too much you might make wrong decisions into selling it early or just spending it for gift cards which will most likely make you regret after another wave up comes.
Be wise in making decisions if I were you.

Bitcoin will not fall to nothing because too many companies like banks, firms, organisations, politicians, the top richest people in the world, the biggest countries in the world and many other are involved in bitcoin and they dont want bitcoin to lose own value so much.So bitcoin is now more popular then dollar, euro, rub, and many other fiat currency but also more popullar then other altcoins like dash, dogecoin, etherum, monero, zec, burst what means that is not really easy just to destroy bitcoin price what some pupil think.

Back in 2012 about if i recall good i entered bitcoin, prices of course was different... at that time the risk was much bigger.
you will find nobody that can guarantee you your investment... theoretically there is not this fear to drop to nothing, practically there are ways that bitcoin can worth 0 but as other members wrote is something not easy to happen, and did not happened all those years... Everyday more and more people enter the bitcoin land. what you can do to be safe if you bought for investment is to see how you can take it out of exchange, and my proposal is that if you can and have money that you not need to buy some more.

There is nothing impossible to happen afterall, before the price starts rising to what we have today, it has been at the low ebb at a particular period of time. However, from recent events its seems difficult for it to fall to nothing the worst that would happen is for you to make some loss as a result of market changes to the extent you can take before selling and I am sure that is part of the risk you must have been prepared to take before coming into bitcoin.

Don't be too afraid. It is normal that bitcoin price will go up and down. But I doubt bitcoin will lose its value in the near future, so your 40$ is still safe. It may even grow in a few months. But if you are truly in fear, then cash out your bitcoin. There is no point living in fear because of 40$ Bitcoin.

Well for now, there's a very little possibility for it to happen. Based from how popular bitcoin is and it's current price, there will be a lot of people that wont let it happen by buying more and more bitcoins. I think you're really new here, please just don't let your emotions affect your decision. Just hold it for now.

zero is nearly impossible already, even in the case of a bug or an exploit or anything else, we can just hard fork if needed and maitain the value, investors will not dump way below their entry price, no oen in his right mind would do this

In case of some extreme global misfortune affecting both internet and bitcoin network we could see radical price drop.
Bitcoin is not backed by any authority, country or institution, there is no central bank being BTC which will lower/raise interest rates to help BTC.
At this point it is rather possible that bitcoin will reach $10k before year 2020 than hit bottom and will be worthless.

it's backed by demand it self, which is the strongest autorithy, in these catastrophic event you wuld worry about your bank which will be insolved at a higher % than bitcoin

i saw banks going bankrupt and customers lose all their money like nothing, any banks currently it's not more secure than bitcoin

you need to buy at least 10X that amount before you start asking these types of questions.

when it come to bitcoin, buy now ask questions later, is best.
