Just because Ethereum network is sluggish right now and it has ridiculous gas fee this are not good enough to start thinking that another project can take Ethereum place, it's almost impossible to achieve
People used to think the same about many projects in the past that were performing well and then a new project came and took the place, the same can also happen with ethereum, people just think that if ethereum is doing just fine right now then it can't be beaten by any other project in the future. I always have my other options open and believe that ethereum can be easily beaten by others projects and that time is also not very far away when we would be able to see a clear winner in the race of the best altcoin after bitcoin.

I think Polkadot will beat ethereum because it is growing very rapidly and its ecosystem is rich. Polkadot has many advantages and I think in a few years ethereum will be demolished soon as the ethereum network is congested and sluggish.
If the reason why Polkadot may beat ETH because ETH network is congested and sluggish, do you think that Polkadot will beat BTC as well in dekade? It wont be that simple for new coins to beat ETH in the market in the next few years. I have to admit that polkadot is growing but it does not mean that it will beat any other older coins with good demand in the market such as ETH.
It would take a great deal of effort for a new project to overtake ethereum. Certainly, It won't be instantly and the project needs to have something that would be of much benefit to the cryptocurrency industry, Inorder to gather the support of a large community of users who would need the coin for enjoying the benefits. I very much believe that a new project can become anything, if they're willing to pay the price.
Take a good look at Ethereum market cap, no new altcoins or old altcoins comes close, to beat ethereum a project have to be times three better than ripple (XRP) and that's impossible right now, maybe not in the future but it's impossible now.
It could be possible to beat Eth in the future but at the present time, I don't think any particular altcoin which has the ability to beat Eth. Because if we look towards the market capitalization of Eth then you would clearly see the difference in how far Eth is from the old as well as new altcoins.
DOT is quite capable of this in the future, at the moment it is a favorite of many, the main thing is not to make mistakes.

I do not think so rather i have read a lot of positive news about eth and how it can take over the major share of the market and i expect too that eth can dominate in coming months and years and if the dominancy of eth can grow to aroumd 30 percent of the total market it can grow really big.
Nowadays many new coins have come in the market which are being traded in good volume on various good exchanges. I hope these coins reach the top one someday. ETH already has a good position on the crypto platform. I don't think these current coins will be able to overtake ETH.
Yes it's possible but not that easy, such project will have a very big demand and supply in crypto market and also have higher market cap than that of Ethereum, this won't be so easy now that so many projects aren't living up to standard
In future it might happen that something big project could come up and become the leader of altcoins, but for now this does not look so and ETH for coming few years may remain no 1. the demand for this coin just keep on rising and whenever the bitcoin price slightly moves up more people starts to buy it seems ETH as this also increases and vice versa.

I think Ripple has overtaken Ethereum not just once, but twice (or maybe a few times) in terms of market capitalization. But as for the price, I honestly think that Ethereum cannot be overtaken by Ripple.
During the crazy 2017 bull run, I bought Ripple around $0.77 and sold it after reaching all-time high. I honestly think that there will be no new crypto who can beat Ethereum, except the almighty Bitcoin.

There are a lot of coins or tokens posed to become a big contender to Ethereum's position, but Ethereum is also busy updating their platform to make sure they are updated to the needs of their clients, supporters, and investors, so I believe that Ethereum will likely stay as the second most popular coin in the market.
its very much difficult to overtake ETH as the current crypto-space including DEFI is built upon on it. May be in future , some other may come with the support of governments and other co-operates . but its highly unlikely .
I don't think it can happen anytime soon, although in the cryptoqurrency industry anything can happen instantly, but we all know that Ethereum is the top altcoin and so far they have proven that ethereum is still in the 2nd list according to CMC market cap.

It feel it depends upon the crypto project and what it is trying to achieve.
IF the project is good it would get suppport and gain in market cap.
Beating ETH is not easy though what is the need. Every project is special and different
The latest project called DOT has already gained a very big mcap instantly and will it become a new coin that compete with ether? we will see that
