There are some thing that are good in some point.

In this cashless society you wont be able to hide anything, tax guys will know. People will love this cuz they wont need to carry cash all the time cell phone is enough. Perfect for today society where everything is done online almost.

Only downfall will be security for this.

That might happen if the governments are involved, but I'm sure it won't it might lessen the income possibility of business as goverments collecting taxes for each transaction in their bockchain being made and every businesses being involved with governments are what Chinese people hate, in the other hand its still pretty much impossible for now because there will be too much people to having a transaction every munite so basically there are so much things to work on for this being able to happen.
Yes it can if there is support not only by the government but also the people who want to have an cashless transaction. We can classify cashless method of payment if there is no involved a thing or an object like paper money meaning it is intangible thing to have transaction. And for me bitcoin is one of the prior thing to make it happen because in the first place bitcoin is for transaction within the internet where it called crypto-currency so the main point is bitcoin can be a denominator for a cashless society.

It will be possible to have a cashless society but it is still impossible to be implemented for the next 20 years. There are already articles regarding microchip. This microchip will serve as a mode of payment and transaction for every person in the future. Cashless society will be hard for ordinary people. And I guess this will be the sign of the end times as well.

Ordinary people will find it difficult adjusting to this new mode of payment so even 30 to 50 years will be not enough. Second many people don't have the money to buy devices even just a mobile device because they can only buy their everyday necessities. So I think only first world countries can make this happen soon.

Cashless society = permanent slavery to bankers.

Enough said.

This is what the current capitalist system is trying to on all the people and all around the world. Very neat and clear. If the wealth of people rise, the capital owners will face problem to find cheap labor force.

In the absence of real public money will be difficult to make a transaction because if you rely on digital money like bitcoin this community would find it difficult especially if using digital money the community must always connect to the internet network while some countries are still there who have not felt the internet so if the community Living without real money it would be difficult for everything.

cashless society is what every country aim for but security needs to be improved because its money and digital currency is easy to hack !
It is really difficult to expect a cashless society in twenty years, first and foremost what a government should focus is to have the ability to provide job for every citizens and then plan on eradicating poverty, then we should plan about having a cashless society.

We mostly are in a cashless society now. Think about it. Almost every store or shop accepts credit cards, this was not the case 20 or 30 years ago.

When you go out to restaurants they have smart tablets at the table. You pay for your food through that with a CC at the end of it. The server doesn't have to come back and handle all that anymore in a lot of places.

You can buy almost anything online now, which requires cashess transactions.

Idon't think there is much left that isn't cashless, maybe beyond some small businesses. Cash is on its way out. People use direct deposit into their bank accounts.

True. We are sort of living in a cashless society, where credit cards are used mostly in major shops providing an easy and convenient way to make payments without the need to carry physical fiat currencies with you.

However, I believe that as our society advances, digital currencies would eventually replace credit cards, making it a lot faster and better with the power of the blockchain. Perhaps, we would carry digital currencies issued by governments within our own body as an implant, or any other form possible.

While nowadays, not everyone has access to the web, new ways of making it possible for anyone around the world to do so would become a reality, enabling greater adoption of digital currencies.

Nevertheless, as technology evolves, anything could be possible in ways that we have never imagined. One thing for sure is that governments and central banks are becoming more interested into Blockchain technology, which might lead them to create their own digital fiat currencies in the future. Thus, it wouldn't be surprising if a digital Dollar, or digital Euro becomes used within 20 to 30 years from now. Just sharing my thoughts. Grin

Cashless society is happening now but not all over the world and fiat currency still exist in other countries. It might happen because we live in the technology age with the power of the internet and new innovation. It is possible to go in cashless society, they will create virtual currency to the replacement of paper money or fiat currency in their perspective country. Technology will reign in our world. No one can beat it.

Cash is not just fiat.
Cash is the physical form.

Societies can go cashless even with fiat , you will just have to use cards or mobile apps.

The banks now are getting weaker because of the attention that cryptocurrencies are getting.

That's just day dreaming.
As I was telling another guy in a topic about the usd, in my country alone pole have more fiat deposits than the entire marketcap of bitcoin.

It's first solving the segwit hurdle and then you can really think of people preferring bitcoin.
But with just 300k transaction a day you won't do it.

Everybody that doesn't live in a thrid world country must have noticed that we already use e-money.We are paid with money that we can't see,we are trading without cash money(POS for example),we are usining atm, paysafecards, paypal etc.
There is obviously more easy to transfer money, but I think there are still problems suchs us criminality, interest rates, and generally the feeling of insecurity.

How does the banks world over gets weaker because crypto currency have all the attention. If you know that all the funds coming into bitcoin and all the alt coins is done through the banking system and if they stop those services then hope you know what will happen. Tongue We are a semi cashless society where we use debit and credit cards.

Cashless society is already with us whether we accept it or not. From the comfort of my room I can pay for goods and get it shopped from far away China to me I can also, pay for several utility bills and this can happen anytime of the day. This is also one fundamental feature of bitcoin in which I M optimistic will spread to a larger percentage of the world in few years but the issue is infrastructures because bitcoin still relies solely in internet in which bank has been able to surmount.
I think it is not that big deal for people if bitcoin is still depending on the internet because it is not called cryptocurrency if it is not currency online so there is nothing wrong with that and because it is online currency it is easy to access and use to pay things online or if we are going to make payments. The banks now are getting weaker because of the attention that cryptocurrencies are getting.

That's a great modernization of spending in the future and we cannot stop that to happen and this is possible, but this would be implemented by the the control of our government. With it's bigger development resulted into fiat currency being diverted to electronic currency and so as digital currency now. Well, I think this will not really easy for the governments to adopt cryptocurrency due to those are decentralized and unstable with regards of it's price fluctuations. Different governments around the world doesn't wanted this type of digital currency because of unpredictable movement of price.

If a cashless society were to happen, I also think that cash at that time is in the form of digital fiat currencies but it would not be as transparent as bitcoin because some people in the government hates transparency. If it becomes a reality, Im sure that the traditional way to pay would change, maybe it would be easier to receive and send payment because the cashier on a grocery and such would not need to count to give the change, it might reduce criminal activity but it will boost the number of cyber criminal activities thats for sure. If bitcoin would exist by that time, it would be a store value like what gold serves to be now.

Lots of great replies here and good insights.

But I'm not so sure in my opinion.

I haven't quite thought hard about it, but if the world were to have a cashless society, it would mean that the government had a large hand in it. Thus it is controlled by them to some extent. The blockchain tech is great since it has helped - or is the sole reason - Crypotcurrency has become decentralized. It's a different dynamic altogether though once fiat becomes replaced by digital currency.

Sure, allot of us can see it reduce crime, make industrial progress go allot faster, and my goodness... the sheer convenience. That's some of the pros, but almost everything has a con.

But what if you're government was corrupt? Then that would give a possible liability to this ideal or dream. So it depends on the general moral state of your country, if you as an ordinary citizen can benefit from a cashless society.
