Nigerian Pidgin is well recognized and believed to be a localized way of speaking English language as some may call it slangs but it's obvious that not all citizens can speak it but majority understand it, also the real English is the unified language and official speaking language in Nigeria, this makes the naija local board have a combination of two language and members could freely express themselves in the most convenient way their message could be well communicated and understood, the board indeed in fast increasing in activities for this reason with so many other reasons and having an additional merit source like Charles-Tim will encourage more members to participate on the local board discussion knowing well that their quality efforts will almost attract merits for the quality posts made, i want to believe that Theymos will see into this and consider the application together with other applicants worthy of being a merit source.

I do not want to create another thread for merit source application for local board, this is the reason I am posting about it on the thread that I have used to apply for merit source before.

I am applying for merit source for Nigeria (Naija) local board.
I support your request. Charles-Tim is among the consistent high rankie member that has being contributing to our local board in teaching us most things that we are confused on or don't have an idea of. I have always notice his activeness in technical support on the forum too. So I think that he should also be considered to be part of the forum merit source. Nigeria local board is also lacking merits because only CryptopreneuerBrainboss is our merit source and according to our discussion, I think that the merits are small in number.
Adding a merit source in Nigeria is pretty good for me because 2 merit source in local boards are enough to sustain the merit circulation in a specific board. But for know as we can see that theymos is not accepting yet any merit source application. But still hoping that you will be accepted cause I know you're goal is to help quality poster in your local board.

This will reduce the chance of you being a LB Merit source as English still accounts for a good proportion of the posts plus there are many higher ranking members who can speak Pigin.
Most of the posts are in Pidgin. But even if they are in English, the board lacks merit, you can check the local board monthly stats in my application. We Nigerians can do what is best for the board because it is more about what is pertaining to us and mostly visited by us.

I don't know if this is the reason why there is no mod for Nigeria (Naija) LB.
The reason is best known to theymos. He said the board is going to begin with no moderator, but maybe there would be a moderator later is what I am not certain about.

Most people chose English and Pigin.
Pidgin is widely spoken among illiterates that do not understand English, but later more literates also like to speak it.
All of us on the forum are literates and we understand both. So most likely the reason almost everyone voted for English and Pidgin.

speak in common known as the "Nigerian Pidgin English", which is a combination of normal English and our Nigerian dialect/slang. Which is the reason why you happen to come across pure English on our local board, as it's also acceptable.
So I hope you understand now??

Thanks for the clarification, it's the first time I know this information.

I thought Charles-Tim was a merit source as well. He shares his merits very well, it would be nice if he were a merit source. Especially in the face of the rapid rise of the Nigerian board, it seems like they need a new source. Of course, the administrators will decide this. You opened the topic in the Nigerian local section, I didn't quite understand, but it looks like you really need it. I support my Nigerian brothers, let them unite and support whoever they think will be the best source. Management will definitely see this request. This application will be useful to you when new resources are added when the time comes.

No matter the board being assigned to you @Charles-Tim I feel you're equal to the task. You're suitable for the position of a merit source and you are one of those who make sure things move smoothly in our LB (Naija LB), you being consistent and active is something the big boss (THEYMOS) need to look into. With your experience in this forum and how long you have spent here are some of those reasons why I feel you should be given a chance.
I don't see you going off color when given the task of a merit source. With good reputation you have on this forum is something the big boss @Theymos need to look up to... @CT you're good to go on this.
For me I support this application and the request should be granted.

Before the Naija Local Board was created, you’ve an helpful member in that local board. Your commitment and dedication to the local board even increased more after we were given our local board by Theymos. Since then, you’ve been helpful and tried to make the board lively and welcoming to all Naija local board members in the forum. Your response to questions been asked there is encouraging and appreciate always. We are in support of you and we hope that your request is been granted by Theymos soon.

EDIT:
Sorry to be off-topic, I checked some of the posts in that local board, and why do some account there speak using English?

At Naija local board, we understand both English and Pidgin, but that has already been debated on the language we can use there. We can communicate with both but Pidgin is widely more understanding and relatable than any other language in Nigeria today. When the grammar is too much for a layman in Nigeria who doesn’t have enough English knowledge, one can easily break it down to pidgin for easy comprehension for them.

This has even led to an argument before on our local thread before theymos gave us local board, some people wanted all to be in Pidgin, but some people too wanted it to be in both English and Pidgin. We voted with these options:

  • only Pidgin
  • only English
  • English and Pigin
  • English, Pigin and other languages

Most people chose English and Pigin.

There are more than 371 tribes in Nigeria, with 525 spoken languages. The reason other languages are not accepted. Local forums, news and many more are in English. Also local radios in English but sometimes in Pidgin while doing some programs.

Pidgin is widely spoken among illiterates that do not understand English, but later more literates also like to speak it.

Thank you for the observation on our local board. So in regards to the question you just asked. Nigeria is an English-speaking country with over 250 ethnic groups who speaks different dialect each, but is known to have a particular language which all these Ethnic groups/tribes  speak in common known as the "Nigerian Pidgin English", which is a combination of normal English and our Nigerian dialect/slang. Which is the reason why you happen to come across pure English on our local board, as it's also acceptable.

Does the Nigerian Local board need more merits? I see many nigerian members above FullMember rank and I do not think that there is a problem with that local board but I think that adding Charles-Tim is necessary for technical boards, as the number of active members there is decreasing day after day, especially with some CM members leaving the forum or reducing the number of posts.

Keep updating this topic and you will be selected.

I support this merit source application

I don't have a specific words to narrate Charles-Tim from my start here back then 2021 within my local board I have seen him to be an active user who are always available to assist every up coming members especially newbies like me, despite my sudden increase I still term myself to be a learner compared to Charles-Tim., apparently he has been useful to the forum not only limited to our local board but also to other Subforum collectively and with his input to the platform be it technically, mentally and analytically I think Theymos should help grant his request as I feels and also have this strong believe that he will be able to handle that position and make use of his sources carefully without having to violate the rules (if there were any). Then lastly it will be a great opportunity to help expedite & foster the growth of our Nigerian local board, this would lead to also encourage the dedicated newbies and beginners rise quickly for having more merits source to our community., it will be a dream comes true if you honor his (our) request sir Theymos.

Thank you

Theymos mightn't be willing to add new source to the general forum but will obviously consider to add a new source to the Nigeria board so make that known Charles-Tim and don't hide it.
You are absolutely right, but because I have applied before and also because I have posted it on this thread, I will not want to create a new thread for it. I think The Sceptical Chymist is very right as well. Let us leave it on this thread, but I will try my best to make it visible that I also applied for Nigerian merit source. I have edited the title already. I have also edited the OP to begin with the link for my my local board merit source application.
I understand what CryptopreneurBrainboss meant. He wanted the emphasis to be on Nigerian local board to gain more visibility and support. In the other hand, The Pharmacist idea is also good. Just rename the OP and let's continue the discussion here.

Is there any information, on how many merit sources are active in Nigerian local?
Only 1 merit source and he (CryptopreneurBrainboss) complained that his allocation of smerits is small as his allocation wasn't increased the last time theymos made a general increase.

Charles-Tim is one of the most active posters on the Nigeria local board and a worthy contributor on the forum. He frequently posts on the beginners & help board, Bitcoin discussion, Bitcoin technical support board and of course the Nigerian local board. I'm always wowed whenever I come across his highly thoughtful, constructive and concise response to questions asked on the forum. He's also one stand up guy that's always advocating for quality posts on the Nigerian local board so I've no doubt that he would make a good merit source.

I love you brother, keep flying the green white green flag and I'm in full support of your merit source application.

I am of the opinion that the only obstacle standing between you and merit source status can be if the Nigerian local board already has enough merit source members.
Check the stat on this application post. No enough merit distribution on the local board.

Is there any information, on how many merit sources are active in Nigerian local?
Only CryptopreneurBrainboss is the merit source we got. No inactive merit source.

If I remember correctly, at some point there was a discussion where the wish was expressed to activate local boards. Bigger circulation of merit in local boards is part of that idea.

Is there any information, on how many merit sources are active in Nigerian local?

I can't even remember the last time Theymos spoke about the merit system in a thread.
I think Theymos doesn't talk too much about the merit system, that's reflected in their posting history which you can find here:

As far as I know, no new merit sources have been added in recent years, but some deletions are possible if they aren't actively doing their thing. I agree that local board need sufficient merit source, this will help many users achieve worth it merit.

Create a new one with focused on the Nigerian board (that's move your new application to a new thread and lock this one). I won't have noticed you applied to be a source if I wasn't quoted.
There's no reason for Charles-Tim to create two separate merit source application threads, regardless of whether you or he wants to emphasize the fact that he'll be acting as one of the Nigerian board sources.  If Theymos has read this thread (and I'm guessing he has and probably is still following it), he'll know what the deal is.

There's nothing wrong with criticism and besides we might all have different views on how things should be done but that's what makes the forum beautiful. Here's an explanation to how others might view what he just did, he applied for a job and didn't get considered and now he's trying again with the Nigeria card and hoping he gets approved but to distance himself from such assumption a new thread would had been the perfect idea. He isn't having two applications (he's going to lock the previous thread) besides the first was for the forum in general which theymos didn't want to add any new sources but the new one is for Nigeria which we definitely need an upgrade of merits in that board. Him getting the Nigerian locals support can appeal to theymos in granting us a new source

The board is losing activity because people aren't getting enough merit compared to writing on the main board. Alot of Nigerians related topics are still been discussed on the main board and that's because there isn't much motivation for posters in the local board. I also noticed many Nigerians hasn't supported his application (I mean after his recent intentions of been a source for us) which is because they haven't noticed it since it's hidden. I said I wouldn't have noticed his intentions without mentioning me on this thread (and me been interested to see what the mentions were about). Well it's still his decision but I just gave my suggestion and I hope he takes it.

Theymos mightn't be willing to add new source to the general forum but will obviously consider to add a new source to the Nigeria board so make that known Charles-Tim and don't hide it.

Besides, Charles-Tim could easily edit the title of this thread and, aside from that, if he starts up another one I bet you he'll get criticism for being redundant.  It's a no-win situation if he does that.

Theymos, where are you at??  We pleebs need some guidance down here in the trenches of this nice little forum that you're the administrator of.  What are your thoughts about how the merit system is functioning?  Are you planning on adding any more merit sources?  I think the local boards in particular need a few more, as a number of them are extremely active and the members of which are apparently going under-merited.  Can't have that now, right?

while some who enevr even applied became merit sources.
Yeah, that was 2019 but I forget the month.  I was one of those who was handed a job and told to go forth and prosper, etc.  I can't even remember the last time Theymos spoke about the merit system in a thread.
