Hi all!!
So for someone like me (small miners) never in the top 100 or even 200, just how long (if ever) would I have to wait for a payment?
Im just wondering if it would be like 4-5 months or are we talking years here?
Thanks in advance.

At the current hashrate, 4-5 years.

how do you make money ? off this project ? how you fund server if its free ?
Actually, feel free to donate. Its right at the bottom of page:

BTW: Why not a SegWit address?
No good reason really, just legacy, and I can track donations made to the same address (no I'm not fussed about cycling addresses the way everyone seems to be when used for the same purpose.)

I don't. This costs me money. I only made money off the solo pool and that pool isn't making anything either any more. However bitcoin has been good to me and I'm doing this as a service to the community. Fortunately the community left that does mine here is grateful which is all I get in return - gratitude. Should the community have not actually been that way, I'd have gone by now. The only shame is that more of the community hsan't figured out they'd be better off mining here.

And if/when my s7 on the solo pool hits a block, hopefully CK will enjoy a bottle of nice whisky!  80TH has and will continue with the 'free' pool, but would love for CK to get a piece of that s7 block..  Grin
Haha miners loves when btc.com antpool viabtc and other pools grab transaction fees. Very funny for blocks with transaction fees about 10 BTC or more. I think peoples loves stability - 12.5 BTC in all blocks, not 13, 20 or 30.
If my S9 on solo finds a block I sent 9% of amount to 1PKN98VN2z5gwSGZvGKS2bj8aADZBkyhkZ for pool costs compensation Grin

That's some great info.  I'll be running this on 120v lines, and even during the NYC winter, my steam heat (which I have no control over) is way too much for the room.  I can't crack windows when I'm not here. I'm on the 1st floor and it's a bit of a security thing. (No bars.)

I certainly don't mind getting a lower hash rate to keep this working.  Thanks again for pointing me in that direction.  Great info!

no worries good luck with it.

BTW  the A841 is my favorite avalon miner.

I would check the draw and use a power cost calculator you might find even on industrial asic could be pretty noticeable cost wise. Maybe a $100 or so added to the electric bill a month.

Indeed.  I have quite a few other computers (crunching numbers for SETI hahah) and other equipment that I typically leave on 24/7. Once the 841 is set up, I will discontinue that practice.  A lot of those computers are very old and inefficient, so I'm hoping that turning them off will make up for most of the new draw from the 841.  I'll be splitting the two (120v) power supplies for the 841 between two breakers.  It'll be dicey, but an adventure that should garner some laughs.  Fortunately there are no life support systems here.

I would read how to clock the A841  a bit lower  to save some power and sound.

I have a thread on it, I will look for the link.

I would mine here 6 days a week------ pool.ckpool.org

I would mine here 1 day a week------ solo.ckpool.org

I did read about adjusting the voltage offset, but that doesn't sound like clocking.  Any further information you can link would be wonderfully welcome.  Thanks!

Re: your recommended schedule: These are the two pools that I was looking at. I was wondering if there was a way to utilize both, and it's like you read me mind!  I'll definitely do the 6/1 split as my original point of departure.  Thanks again.  I really appreciate it.  Smiley

Thank you! I'll try this pool 2 months, then i'll decide.. In the meanwhile i would point one s5 to solo.ck, just to have a try with the lottery!
Hey, new here and testing out ckpool

So how is it you actually make it into the top 100 ?

Say you run around 25TH for a week, is that sufficient?
Greetings.  I'm Dord, but you can just call me noob.  I am in a situation where I don't pay for the electricity in my office.  I can probably get away with having one little ASIC and stay under the radar.  So, I picked up an 841 for very little just to check it out for kicks.  (I'm obviously not going to buy my first home with this... but maybe some paper towels on occasion)

If I were to join CKPool, would I be such a piddly little player in this pool of pros that it wouldn't be worth the while?thx
This is the best paying pool (0 fees + bech32), but is also the slowest to pay. Of course in a perfect world the whale miners would move a couple of Exa hashes here and then nobody would need the other pools anymore...

Anyway at the current hashrate every 6 weeks or so (on average) a block should be found, but not everyone is paid; only the top 100 plus 50, chosen from those who have waited the longest. At least that is how i understand it. Therefore variance is extreme. Once you do get paid, you will reap the benefits of your hashrate no matter how many months you waited, but at current rates expect at least three months or so to see any payment.

Oh yes there is also ramp up and ramp down, i think the ramp up is a bit faster than the ramp down. Current ramp up takes 209 days at 7.2PH/s according to computergenie's page.

You cannot "test" the pool for a couple of months, instead, you'll need to wait two years for the results to be meaningful... Or bring a couple of Exahashes per second here, then the design should shine.

This probably involves scheduling using crontab to relaunch cgminer after changing its config, unless the Avalons expose such feature in their UI.

Check the pool site and see about where your hash will land you on active users. You'll need to leave the hash rate here more than a week I imagine.

I will be planning some new food photos.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Yeah, that looks like it is working out for the pool!

Nice Roma Tomato and where the heck did you get the strawberrys from.
Looks like I have to wait another two month to get them out of my garden.
(Think of me on every bite, I love them)

and as allways, congratulation to the lucky blockfinder.

The top 50 get paid.
The rest get carried over, but not lost.
Top 100 get paid. 50 get interleaved on top of that. Rest get carried over.
