Can you guys please explain what are the benefits of mining under SSL connection directly to pool ?

https://forum.z.cash/t/zcash-pool-zcash-flypool-org-anonymous-mining/3152/1308

We are happy to announce that Flypool has implemented stratum mining via an encrypted and authenticated SSL connection. Currently encrypted stratum mining is only supported by Claymores miner and support should be added to Optiminers new version as well.

Compared to regular stratum mining it is not longer possible for a third party to tamper (e.g. redirect your hashes to a different account) with your connection to the pool.

Instructions for Claymores miner to use encrypted mining:
Append ssl:// to your server and use port 3443:

Who will be tampering you?  Did you ever see it happened?  What third party?  Your ISP?  Your dad?  Your campus admin?  Wink

You will be instantly find out from your stats, and stop/fix it.

It's a market trick of no apparent gain for miners.  Developers market.  Constructed needs..

6*RX480 (AMD RADEON), Windows10, Catalyst 16.11.5 - mining ZEC - ok, mining ETH/ETC - hands on restarting.
It seems that I need to go back to Catalyst 15.12.
Can You help me to download the driver Catalyst 15.12? Thanks.

Hi I'm from venezuela.

Mining. Cheap electric power (free) $ 0.001 per month for the whole house.

Claymore's v8.0 r9 380 stock 129.9H / s

Claymore's v9.0 r9 380 stock 158.9H / s

I returned to v8.0.

The v9 is unstable. Hang every 12 hours or before.

Sorry for my bad english (google translate)
It's a bit strange, I'm running  claymore's zec v9.0 without any problems ( I have the same cards)  It could be a PSU issue  Huh

Been mining non stop on a bronze 650w power brick using a oc to the max rx480 and a 7950. In my humble opinion v9 uses more power and for whatever reason spikes. Also on my 480 card vdcc is not stable. On the 7950 everything is stable but not so much on the 480.  As I see an unstable memory usage , memory allocation could be at fault either on the miner or on the driver that may have a memory cleanup routine for the Rx family. I really don't know

some of my rigs reverted back to v8.

v9 has some serious stability issues that needs to be adressed.
Check clocks, volts, and PSUs.  I haven't had a single crash on 24 cards (470/480).  I have moderate undervolt and have PSUs at ~70% load.

So you think with so many people complaining about v9 load spikes that everyone is having hardware problems?
The more likely answer is that v9 has a stability issues as v8 works perfectly fine for everyone.

Agreed. Waiting for "9.1". I've read the arguments, but this is not a stable miner.

All wrong.
Not Claymore built your rigs with too little power headroom, you did. Miner is 100% stable, you just need to have good enough power to handle the spikes OR lower intensity, reduce clocks etc. If this algo means that there are spikes, then spikes there are. As some guys said here the spikes can be about 2x over average, so your PSU has to have about 2x headroom over average to be 100% stable to run v9 with max settings. If v8 is better for you, then fine, use it. But there is absolutely 0 problems with v9 as such or with any previous version too, all of them have been 100% stable.

Although I do believe everybody saying about the spikes and instability
I have to state that my rx 480's oc'd x6 in one rig in v9 I have the exact same stability
Working non stop at 240 h/s each since time of release.

Also the same for x6 r7 370's stable as a rock 145 h/s each

My rx rig has 1300 PSU
My r7 rig has 1200 PSU

Guys, which MB did You test and recommend for 7gpu rigs? Beside MSI z97 gaming 5 that one is doin fine.

My Top Motherboard Picks:
- Z97 Gaming 5,  MSI Z97 Intel LGA 1150 DDR3 USB 3.0 ATX Gaming Motherboard http://a.co/7a6Sut8
- ASRock H97 Anniversary LGA 1150 Intel Motherboard (usually sold out): http://[Suspicious link removed]/2cl9G48   or   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157564

- BIOSTAR TB85 LGA 1150 Intel B85 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Motherboards http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138436

If you want 7 Gpu use the Z97 Gaming 5 or add a PC Peripheral onto any of the other boards:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/141865200790?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Thanks for this simple explanation. I'm planning to switch from coinmin.pl either to flypool or dwarfpool

Dunno what the fuss is about.

I updated to v9 right after it came out, going from v8 on all my rigs and there have been ZERO issues. A little more power use and spikes up about 40-50watts on the 5-6 GPU rigs, but nothing that can not be handled.

I run my own BIoS on XFX based hardware and it's been stable since v9 came out, without any crashes etc..
I always say, check your hardware first as more than likely it's a power supply, cable or motherboard issue.
Just because the v9 taxes your whole system more and IT can not handle it, doesn't mean it's bad.

My r9-3xx/2xx GPU's added about 12-18% in hash rate, and the RX based GPU's about 4-5%.

Sadly with the price of ZEC, I might have to switch back to ETH soon. Cry

ZEC is a second life for my old 280x cards. ETH is for my new RX Smiley

And about the fuss - electronics components do age, manufacturers use barely passing QA components, etc....

In my last batch of RX cards it was a miracle to find a card capable of doing 2100 memory on eth.  Tested v9 on them and i had to reduce memory clock to default 2000 otherwise rig rebooted.
My old 280x cards were running 1625 mem clock on ETH mining. They could mine ZEC with those settings with initial Claymore releases but with version 8 I had to set memory to default 1500 on all of them. With v9 I had to reduce 1 card to 1400 MHz for stable mining.

Blaming "power spikes" is easy. More important is having discussion about the real causes and how to overcome them.

400W per card ?

If i play games it take 360W, if i overclock it can get 400W, just because zec using 100W it not means that other algo will not use up to 400W, zec and eth will end soon and will you be able mine other algos?

ZEC has complex PoW which consists of many steps, they are different and therefore have different power usage.
If your PSU cannot handle power usage peaks, it's not a problem of the miner.
Also note that I try to achieve maximal speed, it always causes more power usage and more GPU usage, so if you have OCed GPUs or weak PSU it may work for v8 but may fail for v9.
BTW, I added a couple of additional range checks for better stability (these checks are non-critical, just for sure), I will release an update in a few hours. Note this update will not change power usage.

Will this update give more speed  Smiley ?
