If I'd like to purchase one but am buying BTC from coinbase today, should I wait until funds are available to send or reserve now?

Sorry, first time bitcoin miner buyer here. If I understand it right the process is:

1) Send BC to address listed in OP
2) Post amounts bought with transaction ID
3) Wait for shipping instructions via PM (which also involves message signing using address used to send the BC payment)

Am I getting the gist of it right? Sorry for being a newb at this. Thanks.

Canary will most likely post shipping instructions here as a post, rather than a PM. Once we have all that, we will need to get a label created, the tracking number signed and the whole thing emailed to Canary as noted in the OP.

I hope you're trolling... Read the FAQ on OP's post.

You must use a wallet that you can send signed messages with, such as the client or blockchain.  Coinbase does not have the ability to send signed messages since they do not send funds from your wallet.  When you send funds from coinbase, it is sent from a coinbase address, not your address.  There is no way to prove who actually sent the funds from coinbase.

In other words, if you sent money w/ coinbase, you just sent an unverifiable payment.  aka, you sent an unmarked clear envelope of money to Canary.  Everyone can see the envelope and its contents, nobody knows who it's from.

Perhaps Canary can work with you on this... but you'll likely have to wait.  Please read the instructions next time.

I read the instructions throughly, I thought that my wallet at block chain and on coin base worked the same even though coin base is an exchange because I had seen a similar situation. Someone just posted how to sign on coinbase so I guess you can did I miss something else other that that?
as long as you can sign with one of the sending addys from your transaction, you should be OK.

Guys, you actually can sign a message from a coinbase address.  Just go to Account Settings --> Bitcoin Addresses --> Details (for the address you're interested in) --> "Click to sign a message with this address"

I tested it, it works fine.

For example:  From 1Ns8khLU4SEAyXp8XP53YBuWiHBG5Y9oFW

Message to sign:
This is a dummy message.

Signature:  G6qsJtOSY2X6M7fXlJHxweSKOEmS97+qof9DKF9ammlomU57EToInU5D/S8Jm25ipnnOe8Knko88GJoaVFVbUW0=

Voila'!

Use Coinbase Account almosanywhere with Shift card
Still can't sign but can't you go to Account settings Bitcoin addresses to find your sending address? I have sent BTC back to a number of these addresses and it shows in my wallet.

Just need to find link between address in wallet and xmiting add in blockchain.

One Cube.

Transaction ID: 1eddc03373eb1a8b7fad40b531a1cfbe28f71d75cb3d9471429ae2f0b5edff47

Will await label instructions.

EDIT:  Shit, I can't sign that address... lol what do I do now?

Canary will refund the address and you can resend it from one that you can sign with.

AFAIK, you cannot refund coinbase transactions.  The sent-from address is NOT your wallet address, so sending payment to that address will likely result in btc being given to some random address...

How do I know this?  I tested using coinbase to send 0.001btc to a dice game, followed the transaction, and my winnings went back to the transmit address, but nothing showed up in my account.  I assume coinbase now has an extra 0.002 btc.

All is well.  I had a stupid moment.  It was just not on my list of addresses, but I could still sign with it.  Cheesy
