I think bitcoin will not be replaced with another cryptocurreny, because if we have to look at the btc price right now; no other cyptocurrency beats it's price. Comparing it to ethereum today, it has nothing to do with price competition which mainly other people have compared it and  also speculate about bitcoin's death in the system.

i do this question because i´ve read in this website issues with bitcoin, slow mining process, high fees, etc. and i´ve read too good reviews of some altcoins, ethereum (smart contracts), ripple (for transfers between banks), dash and nem. these altcoins called 2.0. could bitcoin become just in future virtual gold reserved to companies and rich people?

It is possible that Bitcoin will be surpassed by another cryptocurrency but it is not highly possible. There are some issues regarding the use of Bitcoin but I believe that some actions are being made at this very moment. Would the Bitcoin developers want to see another cryptocurrency replace Bitcoin? No, so they will resolve the issue.

I now do not see any currency that can become a competitor for bitcoin. He has already become popular and no one can outshine his popularity. Bitcoin the leader and so will always be

Anything is possible in crypto though i don't think right now any alt coin is poised to overtake btc yet. There are a lot of talks about eth becoming that alt to challenge btc but i don't that happening anytime now or in the future. I maybe wrong but that's how i see it.

yes you are right that there is no one any currency which can competes with bitcoin because as compare to other crypto currency bitcoin is very much more popular and people have very little information about other crypto currency as compare to bitcoin, and also many peoples know that bitcoin is very profitable for investment and to me I hope no any crypto currency will replace bitcoin.
It is not all about being profitable because sometimes people look for potential and the features that they can get if they will use a certain cryptocurrency. There is a lot of potential cryptocurrency that can compete in bitcoin like ethereum and also it is not that like bitcoin in terms of price but it has potential in the future that can replace bitcoin.
Ethereum will deffinetly be number one in some years. It has much more potential and has some value on the market arena.

A few months back I probably thought this would be impossible, but after spending some more time looking at alt coins my view of this has been slightly changed.

In the next 10 or so years, I still think it is impossible for bitcoin to be overtaken unless some drastic event happens that no one could foresee. Bitcoin is trusted and fairly popular, compared to other alt coins. It would take another cryptocurrency with the same or more trust and popularity for it to even have a chance of overtaking this.

Another way for an altcoin to overtake Bitcoin, would for it to fix Bitcoin’s flaws. Maybe the altcoin that overtakes bitcoin has a fast confirmation speed, lower transactions and etc. I certainly wouldn’t mind using that type of cryptocurrency.

Here's an analogy, lets imagine all cryptocurrencies are like mobile phones. Bitcoin is Nokia, and started the mobile phone trend. And soon after everyone started using Nokia. But brands like Blackberry, Samsung and Apple soon created their own phones, and Apple made a major breakthrough with a touchscreen function, where everyone gradually switched to that after a while, and now Nokia is outdated.

Bitcoin has our trust now, but other cryptocurrencies might overtake BTC in the future. Smiley

This is a really good example of bitcoin. Bitcoin mostly started the whole cryptocurrency thing (although there were other cryptocurrencies made, they all crashed) but maybe in the future their would be new cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin might be overtaken.

At first I thought it was impossible for Bitcoin to be replaced since it is the first cryptocurrency, but you are right, some altcoins may have better features than Bitcoin and people may prefer them instead.

With the slow confirmation, actually it can happen also to other alt coins when they are being crowded by users. It's like a test scenario in bitcoin and possible those coins will also upgrade when they experience it. Bitcoin is already a virtual gold to everyone of the people here. But I doubt it will be replaced soon.

Yes i think ETH have big scope ! but yes blockchain is kinda slow now . Most of the people invest in ETH a lot . So no one know what can happen in future.

Yes it is possible that some other cryptocurrency may replace Bitcoin because transaction in Bitcoin charge very high fees and Bitcoin has very high block time as compared to other altcoins like litecoins which have a block time of 2.5 mins. But the shift from Bitcoin is not possible in next 5 or so years.

there is possibility that bitcoin will be replaced by another cryptocurrency because of the high transaction fee I think ETH slowly crawling to be number 1 crypto but bitcoin is the mother of all coins, well we don't know what will happen in the future, it could it be or not.
I still think that ETH is not a currency and it is just a application to run what you intended to run and on the other hand bitcoin is a currency which has real value and that wont change unless and until there is any technical failure in bitcoin,my other options are Zcash ,Monero and litecoin

I agree most people do not like to pay high transaction fees which makes it unpopular for people who use it for their daily usage and resort to other cryptocureencies such as ETH that do not require to wait for a very long time to receive in our wallet. Its for this reason i think there is a chance another crypto can replace bitcoin.

In my opinion, it is extremely unlikely. Anything has a chance to happen, however, so we can't really discredit altcoins altogether. But let's just say this - most of the altcoins are invented to benefit the founder and early adopters because there is either a premine, a crowdsale in which all the funds go to the founder of the altcoin, instamine, or a few hundred blocks that only the founder has access to solo mining, essentially guaranteeing his rewards.

Also, taking into account that bitcoin is the first crypto to ever exist, i think it's fair to say that bitcoin won't ever be succeeded by another altcoin, just like silver will probably never overtake gold even though it is better to conduct small transactions with. Whether or not bitcoins ends up in the hands of the rich is something that is out of our control.

I could either watch it happen or be a part of it
Bitcoin is reigning as a number one Cryptocurrency in a few years, well it's a fact that were sratching our heads in high fees and veeeeerrryyy long waiting period in transactions speed and as the combination of all of the above that's been said here; trust, credibility, service ---- this thing's are hard to earn, yup we're experiencing some slowdowns but as an open source program, everyone is finding some solutions on what to do on these problem and of course when things really got rough --lets say 20 years or more when some new alts is on the edge in every manner then let's face the fact that the prime of BTC is over just like the prime of fiat.

Of course yes, bitcoins can be replaced by another cryptocurrency, the best candidate of coin is ethereum
i can see on coinmarketcap the capitalization of ethereum always increased,
ethereum has chance to replace bitcoins also ethereum has many dapps be made on there
and many people adopt ethereum than bitcoins.
yes everything can happen no doubt about it but  but i think it is not so easy because bitcoin is becoming more and more stronger as compare to other currencies. and therefore bitcoin is still the number one cyrpoto currency.
I don't think such a replacing is possible with bitcoin. Because bitcoin is volatile, which makes it more popular but this won't let the cryptocurrency to keep a nation in a sustained growth. Ethereum has the potential to grow as an alternate to the bitcoin, same as that bitcoin serves as an alternate to traditional currency.

Crypto currency market is entirely different from mobile market. Both cannot be compared.Bitcoin has gained trust all over the world and its not an easy task. Many altcoin devs have tried their best to replace bitcoin with their altcoin. But they didn't even reach near bitcoin. They promised to deliver some features which were not found in bitcoin. But still, they are unable to replace bitcoin.I think its hardly not possible for any altcoin to replace bitcoin.
