UAE has no shortage of money. So they can host a tournament as big as possible. They have the money to do basically anything. But the problem is they themselves don't have enough skilled players. And probably that is the reason why they have decided that one team can have nine foreign players. in the national UAE team, we can see that most of the players are foreigners. so even though they are very enthusiastic about cricket that doesn't actually have players who can play cricket at the top level. But as I said they don't have any shortage of money so they are going to make this tournament very big.
I think if Arab Am Rat can make such a decision then many reputable companies will express interest in buying the team Because UAE is a perfect place to organize something. Although maybe initially they will not be as crowded as the IPL, but still it will cover the entire cricket world.I think such an initiative should be taken by United Arab Emirates. I think if they can take such initiatives then the popularity of cricket will increase in many areas. Because currently IPL is the most popular domestic cricket in the cricket world.

The stadiums of UAE might not be crowded with cricket enthusiasts but there will be a lot of money entering and outgoing. And another reason why there might not be too many people in the stands of the stadium is because of the weather. If I am not wrong the weather in UAE is very hot during the day and very cold at night. Not many people are very accustomed to this type of weather. But UAE is rich. And I am quite sure that the organizers are going to give importance to different media platforms and social media platforms a lot more.
We have seen how cricket matches were conducted without spectators during the Corona period. Where many viewers were available in tv media or online. Hot or cool it doesn't matter. If there is no restriction there will be no shortage of visitors. People from different parts of the world including Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh live there in United Arab Emirates so I believe there will be no shortage of visitors. As it will be a big budget game so cricket lovers won't miss it.

Yeah only Sandeep so far, may be some one was in the squad but i've no idea. Having said that i do think if some players from the smaller country does better in these league then IPL franchise will pick him, he might not get into Playing XI but he'll definitely join the franchise ecosystem.

I don't think at current scenario they are going to increase overseas player cap, considering new local kids are doing satisfactory job. May be there could be possibility when they increase the team to 12 so that means in next 4-5 years.

Even with 6 Indian players, there will be a minimum of 60 native players spread across 10 franchises. If it gets to 70, then there is a possibility that not all the franchises may be able to find promising players. And also, IPL is being branded as a global league rather than one that is restricted to India. That is the reason why the ICC has allotted a 2.5 months time window for this tournament. And also, we are talking about the upper cap, and not the minimum requirement. Give franchises the option to field 5 overseas players. If they are satisfied with the local talent, then they may go with 3 or 4.
@hichamito37 pointed out correctly.

IPL did went into globalized mode but it's still very much domestic tournament IMO as vast majority of audience is local. I think this number game should depend on quality only, if quality is going down due to local players then increasing overseas slot makes a perfect sense but they are doing okay job so far and local talent is ready to get their hands dirty. In last IPL there were many instance when franchise fielded only 3 overseas players in the playing XI.

Having said that if by any chance they are increasing teams to 12-14 then i don't mind 5 reserved spot for overseas players.

Tahir still have some juice left, being spinner helps.
It seems like IPL franchise laying the ground work for IPL in this league. In this experiment they can easily scout new talents from the associate members for IPL itself. Win-win for everyone.
When was the last time an associate player participated in the IPL? If I am not wrong, it was Sandeep Lamichhane. BTW, I would like to see the overseas player cap in the IPL increased to 5 in playing XI. 5 overseas players and 6 Indian players would give the ideal balance. Since there are 10 franchises now, having 7 Indian players in the XI doesn't always provide the optimal quality. Last time, I had a feeling that some of the players (such as Riyan Parag and Shahrukh Khan) were there just to make up the numbers.

The problem is that IPL is just not a revenue-for-money to BCCI. IPL is that final test for a player to prove himself. After all the first-class cricket and Ranji trophy and other things, IPL is the place where kids in India get a proper chance to prove themselves. So that is a big reason why I don’t think the number of overseas players in a team IPL is not going to increase.

UAE have planned to make the league a big one same as IPL. The UAE population is close to 10 million. Among that only 11% UAE nationals whereas the majority are from the Asian countries. Amongst Indians are about 3.5 million and Pakistanis 1.2 million. This makes UAE strong in cricket audience. So, expats of India and Pakistan playing for UAE seems to get opportunity through this league.

@Sithara007 do you personally believe that associate player’s can dislodge Indian or existing foreign player position, because despite their talent I feel that they won’t be able too make their way into the playing 11.

Lastly it’s not an bad idea because at times I too feel that the additional Indian player isn’t helping, but I feel that this move will be met with lots of resistance if BCCI ever decided to implement it.

Okay i checked more into it so calculation are more like this. 35 Matches affair and tourney starts from 6 Jan to 12 Feb.

18 member squad for each team (6 teams). Which includes 14 overseas players (Including 2 Associate players) 4 UAE players (including 1 from U23).

In Playing XI every team can add max 9 overseas (1 must be from Associate members) and 2 UAE players are must.

Looks good for associate members too.

Yes.. it is really good for the associate members. 6 franchises means a total of 12 associate players will be signed up. Already for the MI Emirates franchise, Brad Wheal (Scotland) and Bas de Leede (Netherlands) have signed up. They have 3 players from Afghanistan as well (Fazalhaq Farooqui, Zahir Khan and Najibullah Zadran). I have no doubt that this league will be a big boost for the smaller boards. BTW, big surprise was Imran Tahir. He is 43 years old and still managed to be picked up by the ILT20 franchise.

Through this league ILT20, we can easily estimate the potential of franchise based cricket. Franchise based teams will play more in future. spectators are hoping that cricket will add a new dimension and its popularity will increase. It is true that more talented players can found easily.

So, it will be great for certain players. Well, it is likely to be very beneficial for most of the players that will play in this tournament. However, I believe it is going to make the use of 14 players for the national team a lot easier. And another thing is the way They are handing out money, players are going to be very interested and this might be one of the biggest very quickly.
In this tournament we will get a little bit different especially in terms of player involvement. In this ILT20 League will have more foreign players. Out of 11 players, 9 foreign players can be taken in each team. But two players must be from UAE or United nations. It it be a tournament of big budget, naturally good cricketers will want to play here. According to their announcement this game will start in January or February 2023.

Although IPL franchisees will take part in ILT20 League so it is natural to say that they will want to make their league more popular. They are ready to spend more on players. Maybe they will continue to try their best to convey the importance of this league to the world. Since that league will be started next year, it will also be well promoted. Over all it is good for the cricket.

I am afraid that there will be an oversaturation of franchise cricket very soon. Duirng the early days, it was just the IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, T20 Blast and the smaller BPL from Bangladesh. But now there are additional leagues from Sri Lanka, South Africa, UAE and a number of other countries. New leagues doesn't mean new viewers. The number of fans will remain the same. The new leagues may however poach viewers from other established leagues. And given the huge amount of money being splurged by new leagues such as ILT20 and CSA T20 League, it is very much possible.
Especially IPL backed ILT20 is spending money like water. If i'm not wrong then they are offering like $500k to many players for just 20 days of work, not sure about tournament length tho. It's very impressive amount considering many players don't earn this kind of money from their yearly contract.

The interesting thing about ILT20 is that in each team there are going to be 14 overseas players, since the UAE doesn't have quality native players. And for the first time, players from associate nations are given a guaranteed slot. Out of the 14 overseas players, two needs to be from associate nations. That works out to a total of 84 overseas players between the six teams. This is more than the total of 80 overseas players spread across the 10 IPL franchises. For the non-Indian players, ILT20 can be hugely important.

as a matter of fact, players are going to be very interested in watching the budget of this tournament., it is expected that the salary will be high for this position
as a result of that alone, more players will be attracted to the game
in addition to that, i also do not like the system of having 9 foreign players in the team, if they do that the system of playing a lot of foreign players in the team are going to get acceptance.

they could have kept it to 7, i think that would have been a really good number to have, but all the other hand UAE does not have many quality native players, so it makes me wonder if they did this for that reason
nevertheless, i feel like the number is a little too much, this is going to be revenue generation rather than talent
