Is this the first time that Steve Smith and David Warner are playing a Test-format match after their ban?
Probably, because they came back to the team couple of days before the world cup. I can't remember if there was any test matches before world cup.

I'm sure Warner and Smith come straight back in but not sure about Cameron Bancroft as they might want Finch to open with Warner. It will be interesting to see which team the selectors pick for the first test match.

Not sure if Finch will play or not but Khawaja would be the preferable player for opening. Finch is more a ODI player than test.

I am sure they are going to prefer Finch instead of Khawaja because he is also performing good in recent matches and deserve this opportunity even Khawaja is also not bad at all but Finch and Warner can do much better as they already done in ODI's. But we have one more person Bancroft he is also recalled so this is very interesting as now they have more openers lets see how they are going to manage this all in next few days.

The problem the Australian selectors have is that Warner and Finch both have the same game style which doesn't really suite test match cricket. For ODI and T20 its a perfect combination but for test match cricket I think one has to miss out and that will most likely be Finch. It then leaves Bancroft and Khawaja as the other opener, Khawaja has been in good form and played pretty well in previous test matches so I think he gets the spot ahead of Bancroft for the first test match. If things don't go to well then we could see some changes for the second test but I think the openers will be Warner and  Khawaja.

Can understand why many people feel that Australia can win this Ashes series especially after watching England collapse in their 1st innings against Ireland, but the manner in which they fought back proves how fearsome they can be.

The current England lineup is something else thanks to the selectors focusing on strike rate primarily which is why my bet is on England to win the Ashes this year.

England did failed in the first inning against Ireland but do you think that they will always fail ? That was one bad day and that is gone. Australia should not take England easy and should not be overconfident with the England current performance in a single match.
Also when you have a strong opposition in front of you, you tend to play with more vigilance and will try to perform much better.

Feel so sad for the Ireland who would have never imagined that they would fail so miserably after their confidence on cloud nine by taking huge lead in 1st innings. England not only won the match but also crushed their confidence badly that resulted in all out for just score of 38.

If Ireland have won this match they gets a big positive boosting that could make them face the further matches more strong. Now the result gives them a learning, as well the prior preparations that needs to be done before facing any leading team. Anyhow it is England who once again proved to the world they're the champions.

Ireland would not rank among the top 15 teams in cricket (if all of them had test status), and bowling them out for 38 can't be taken as a measurement for the ferocity of the English attack. You should not forget the fact that the English bowlers conceded 200 plus during the first innings. I am still mad at England for robbing the world cup from a more deserving team. I just hope that the Aussies will teach them a lesson and show how to play ethically.
I am equally mad with the bullshit result of the World Cup, but the blame should fall completely on ICC and the umpires since England were basically handed the trophy at the end of the day.

Also, ethics is clearly not the strong point of the Aussies as we have seen over the years, but I just wanted to explain how the current England lineup can perform even under intense pressure even if its against a team like Ireland.

Ireland really threw the game away after playing so well on day 1 and even restricting England to under a 200 run lead was a good performance but they couldn't go on with the job which is to be expected from a new test cricket team just starting out. Well now the action really heats up for England as the Ashes start very soon, I think this Ashes series is going to be a close fought series and can Australia retain the Ashes on English soil for the first time since 2001. Australia currently lead the Ashes series wins on 33 wins England 32
Ashes is always unpredictable. In most of the case, either Australia or England take the lead with no chance for the opponent. This time I'm expecting Ashes to win by Australia. Australia has better test format player than England.

I think it will be a close series and even though I am Australian and want to see Australia retain the Ashes, I think that England will win the Ashes once again. In recent Ashes series it has been the home team that comes out on top so I'm expecting that to happen again in this series and if England do win the series they will make it all square on 33 Ashes series wins for both teams. The trio from the sandpaper incident have been named for the Australia team but time will tell if they all play together, I'm sure Warner and Smith come straight back in but not sure about Cameron Bancroft as they might want Finch to open with Warner. It will be interesting to see which team the selectors pick for the first test match.

England has benefit of playing in home ground but their batting will not be much good in test format. Australia has great team. Nothing is predictable, by the way. I think Australia will win this time.

Ireland bowlers bowled exceptionally well in the first innings but in both the innings their batsmen let them down, though I’m hoping going ahead they’ll improve on their game. All credit goes to England team for coming back strongly in the game, they showed the hunger to win and in the end won the game comfortably. England is my favourite to win the Ashes because they’re playing on home ground which will be their advantage against Australia.

After winning the world cup match most of the people will predict England will surely the Ashes series because of the strong batting line up. We should also consider test matches are completely different format compared to one day. So it is impossible to predict because in this format Ausis are very strong.

I assumed that England had won the world cup so they would be more confident with their batting and bowling, but the recent performance against Ireland have created lot of doubt in my mind and  i also think that Australia test side is more consistent than England.

Unfortunate end of the Ireland who played so well in first inning and just reversed the second innings by playing so bad that they go all out in second inning to just 38 runs which was like totally unexpected . England proved that they are champions and came back strongly in the match .
England did not prove they are the rightful world champions by defeating a non test playing nation, England played one of the most pathetic matches just before the Ashes series and Ireland played an awful second innings as they could not hold into their wickets even for a few hours and England just used two bowlers to finish the game .
Well, England have rewritten then results of the match. End of the first day the winning percentage of England was high above 80%,abd by the second day end the winning percentage of Ireland increased reaching close to 35%. Further the same reached as high as 45% and the first innings performance gave more confidence of strong second innings but England players proved themselves to be the leader for cricket at this moment.
