There's a T20 series coming up between India and WI and I just checked the players list and noticed Gayle is not in the team. He said he would retire from ODIs after the WC but did he retire from T20 also?
We have a separate topic for T20 discussion: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/t20-and-t20i-cricket-prediction-and-discussion-5102095 :-)

Back to the Gayle thing, I do not know any update available about his retirement but it's very much predictable that he will retire from ODIs if he can not perform well but for T20s - he is still non-replaceable I think and Gayle should carry on to it.

Last what I have heard was that Gayle will retire after this series and might even retire from all forms of cricket. Also he is now 39 and he is not able to perform the way he used to bat couple of years before. So better to exit then not to be picked by the team.

It's his own decision that he will not play t20 against India, not a declaration of retired though. He will probably retire from t20 as well, already retired from ODI and List A matches.
That's what he said but already retired from ODI.

"It's still not the end. I still have a few games to go. May be another series to go, as well. Who knows, we will see what happens. My plans after World Cup? I may play a Test match against India and then I will definitely play the ODIs against India. I won't play the T20s. That's my plan after the World Cup,"

Let's just have a re-match between England and New Zealand. Grin
That would be awesome, but that will obviously never happen. The only thing we can all hope for is that something like this never happens again in any kind of tournament.

Can't support your 1st statement, the four wasn't anyhow game turning point. Stokes would it from bat as well if it was not from overthrow.
I disagree. That 4 was obviously the game turning point here. Even if Stokes would be on strike, they would still need 7 runs from 2 balls which is very, very tough even for a batsman like Stokes. Luck helped him here.

England are the winners for the 2019 WC and that's what will be written in the record books. You come here after 20 years and everyone will be saying that 2019 WC was won by England and it will be a history. No one will remember what happened and how England got lucky. That's a fact.
Hilarious. Majority of the Cricketing community will remember this match and its bullshit result for ages since it is probably the greatest Cricket match ever played in the world of Cricket surprisingly between England and New Zealand.

Another update to this unfair result.

The updates just keep pouring in. The captain of the winning team and the on field umpire themselves have issues with the result. Nothing left to say people!

This option does not exists anymore. Both the team actually played so well and that was the reason that match and super over got tied. Only thing is that world cup cannot be shared due to which they had to declare one winner. Else it was both team's cup if performance is considered on overall basis.

If there was a rematch played between New Zealand and England once again England will grab it, because this time I see them to be more lucky to win the match. The match could've turned to New Zealand if the four wasn't conceded touching the bat on a overthrow. Next, during the super over after the six it was quite easy to achieve the target, but missed. This is completely a lucky day for England.

As a player yes, he did play well. As a team, they didn't deserve the cup neither did the kiwis. I wish Austalia or India could have won as these are the strongest teams out there. Nz clearly didn't belong there, they played the worst game for a cricket team playing in the finals.
The World Cup should have being shared for the competitive match they displayed in the finals and giving the world cup simply because one team scored more boundaries is ludicrous and they should have taken the wickets lost during the 50 overs rather than the boundaries scored. Australia lost the match by a big margin against England and India lost the match because of the weather conditions as the pitch was seaming a lot after the rain and still India fought hard till the end. I have a different opinion regarding the match as it was the most thrilling final i have ever seen in my cricketing experience as there was no real winner even after the super over.
It is all about the performance of the players to win a match as well as India concerned so I don’t think that they have played well. They should work on their team because world cup is not a small thing. England played well so they won, there are so many teams who did effort and all of them were having 50 overs but only best team use to win.

Why 20 years LOL
Ask anyone who won this years cricket world cup?
Everyone will say England :-D

We needed to see a new world cup winner and this time we got it. Yes, the luck favored England but they also played solid cricket to win the cup (notice I did not say the match).

It was totally a bad day for New Zealand in the final despite playing good cricket. If you analyze some of the moments then you will see it was completely luck that made England the world champion.

1. The catch that was stepped in on the boundary rope. (Saved Stokes or match was gone there for England)
2. That extra 4 runs by hitting the bat (Stokes bat)
3. Awarding 6 runs for this (number two) instead of 5 runs.
4. No Kiwi player, no one else complained for it at that moment because no one was aware of this rule

Sometimes I wonder about the luck that was it for England or for Stokes? I imagine him some day to get the Knight award from the queen.

After a pretty good performance in World Cup Bangladesh will play a 3 match ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting from 26th July. The world cup match between these two teams was dismissed due to rain. I support Bangladesh is favourite on this series.
Considering their bowling unit I would rather say it's an average performance in the World Cup. Bangladesh has some advantage like some experience players. They have not won a series against SL, will they win this time? Don't expect a lot from them, but still hope for the best. Good luck both of the teams.

Well. Well. Well.  My respect for this man has increased greatly after reading this. Thank you for echoing the views of majority of the Cricketing fraternity Mr.Morgan. Only a fool would want perhaps the greatest match in Cricket history to end in such an unfair manner.

As always, I am not expecting pathetic ICC to improve the rules. Williamson and Eoin Morgan are gems indeed. 2019 World Cup champion : England + NZ!

ICC suspends Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect

Although I feel bad about the Zimbabwe cricketers, I support the decision by the ICC. Zimbabwe no longer deserves the test status and $50 million per year funding by the ICC (Afghanistan and Ireland receives only a fraction of that amount). The basic problem with Zimbabwe is not politics. The real problem is the lack of interest in cricket from the native black population. The white population has gone down from 250,000 to 30,000 in two decades and they can no longer rely on this rapidly shrinking pool for player selection. It's sad, but Zimbabwe is going the same route as Kenya. Rather than wasting the funds on Zimbabwe, the ICC should use it in countries where cricket is popular (Nepal, Papua New Guinea.etc).

This format seems very fair. Any team can have a bad day, so does a top team. So if they fail in the Qualifier 1 match then they get another chance in Qualifier 2 match.

If that happened then we might see different team were playing in the final. However we may not see an epic final that never happened in cricket history. Everything has its cause.

The IPL format really makes sense. Top 2 team mist be given a 2nd chance to play. In league type matches, IPL elimination system would be a great edition. In that case, India and Australia could have another chance to make it.
