I used to be a cricket fan but now a days I do not watch cricket. It's been long time. Thanks Royse and JSRAW for some memory.

You should stop by sometime here  Smiley IPL is starting from this weekend, and you might want to visit IPL thread as well, thanks to Royse and maybe throw some money on betting  Grin

I would say the golden time started for Sri Lanka in 1996 when they won their first (I think) world cup. Arjuna Ranatunga was their captain.
Yeah Royse, I know. The team was the best but I have said "Golden time I have seen". That's why I mentioned the later time. I wasn't able to watch 96 world cup. I was a 3 years kid at that time.

Yup agreed, and that's the same team who beat the shit out the Indian Team in Kolkata during 1996 world semi-final, I still remember Vinod Kambli from that match.

now the table has turned.
They also beat the shit out of every team that time they faced. It was the cool captaincy of Ranatunga. He and his team used to chase runs like it's nothing. Always smile in the face. Even in the hardest moment he did not show any anxiety.

The team believed in each others more than anything.

I just hope we see Sri Lanka get better as they were once one of the top ODI teams in the world.
The golden time of Srilanka which I have seen was back in 2005-2012/13. The team combination was perfect. Bowlers like Murali, Vaas was there. It will not be easy to get once again since they have a lot of problems. Local tournament/league can bring some good players but after all, management must have to be good enough to conduct those.

Have a look on the legends:

Well bringing in some new players might help get the team going again and to be honest they have nothing to lose as they have been in poor form when it comes to ODI matches in recent times so why not try some new players and see how it goes. We just never know they could be what Sri Lanka need right now to get them back to winning ODI matches again. Look at Australia in the past year, they have had to bring in new players and it has worked very well so I say why not give it a go.

Bro, Question is from where they are going to bring a new player, Srilankan's domestic level is getting worst. They don't support their younger player much, and the young players need grooming but management busy in petty politics and cutting the salary of domestic players.

They have shitload amount of talents and passionate cricket talent in the Lower level (school), but no one is nurturing them due to the financial problem. They need some drastic change in domestic level otherwise they are doomed for good.

Well I didn't know about the financial side of the Sri Lankan cricket team. To be honest the thing that has this an issue with money is when the IPL was introduced as now players can earn more money playing in the IPL then playing cricket for their countries. I'm talking about the countries that can't afford a lot of money for their players to play cricket. This is the thing that upsets me in sports as its all about the money now and not about the sports anymore. The Sri Lankan cricket board need to find the right balance so that the young talent would want to play for their country and earn a decent salary as well. Sri Lanka do have some talent which we saw in the South African test series, I just hope we see Sri Lanka get better as they were once one of the top ODI teams in the world.

Agreed for example Sri Lankan team if you look and observe they are good for batting but they are not strong for bowling, they worked hard sand they struggled allot, I am happy for the winner team but as you said it is very important to work on new player and should give them a chance for grooming and get proper training.

This means the inexperience and lack of knowledge of the management team. Before leaving the top players they should have work with bringing their replacement. Every team works from the root level, if the backbone of the cricketing structure is not strong then it effect the top level.

I think Sri Lankan cricketing structure is very weak.
Srilanka is really under pressure after losing all of their star players. They can't able to manage the loss. It's because of the poor structure, I'm agreed with you. I don't think they will overcome this problem soon. How times change.

Not watching live but keeping a tab on the scorecard, SL struggling so far.

I am not expecting much from Sri Lanka. I am kinda bored seeing they are losing the ODIs. This team needs some psychologist like I said several times.

Yeah its a shame that Sri Lanka have played poorly in the ODI series which they have lost 5-0 to SA. After winning the test series against SA, I would of thought that would of given the whole team the momentum to continue on with that form even if its the ODI team but it wasn't to be. Right now Sri Lanka don't look like doing well in the upcoming World Cup with their current ODI form.
And that gotto hurt . Their confidence will be shattered by now and really very poor performance. I wonder what the management is thinking right now , they gotto bring some new people in and make some changes.

Definitely the exits of top batsman almost at similar time has left a huge gap in the SL team to fill those spaces with that type of sportsman which one one of the best on the world. SL did not had planned well else they could have got somebody from their local playing team if they would have strengthen those teams and their players previously.

I think in this up coming world cup, Sri Lanka is one of the team who are not yet prepared. I wonder what have they done for the last 4 years. They had some great players but they could not create their tails.

It's so sad. :-(
After losing Sanggakara, Dilshan and Jayawardane, Srilanka has never performed well. Current team has a lot of lacking. They will probably one of the bad teams in this world cup.

Happens with every team, every team goes with some transition period. Some teams find success in that transition period, and some don't, and Srilanka comes in the latter category.
