Check the ethnic map of Ukraine.

... Doesn't give the russians the right to invade/occupy a sovereign country.

Otherwise europe could just aswell start occupying the US, canada, australia and God knows how many more countries. The dutch could occupy most of belgium following thesame reasoning...

If russia occupies the eastern, non-crimea part of ukraine it proves to be no better than germany invading poland. And putin proves himself to be the new Hitler.

There's no legal body in the eastern part of ukraine requesting help from russia. Only crimea has done so thus far.

The UN as well as the US will most likely look at it that way.

Even russian forces in crimea is by international law a breach of sovereign territory.(ukraine) Also, kiev is supposed to go in with military itself to protect crimea from the russians occupying the place. let's just hope the current people in power aren't stupid enough to try and regain military control over crimea. But by law, they should.

I've just heard russian parliament didnt only approve armed forces use in crimea, but in entire ukraine. That does seem to go a step too far, seeing only crimea requested help from russia... Shady business

No , really Smiley.
This move was the last thing that all the countries involved here , including the EU needed.
There was no real problem between Russians , Ukrainians or any other minority.

The core of the problem is the economical situation of both country and people , and no ethnic clashes are responsible for this.
It's a fucked government that's to blame for everything.

So , if Russia want to protect their citizen and Russian land in Ukraine , can we (romanians) do the same for this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bukovina

Let's have the ww3 already and die like a bunch of idiots as humans have always proven to be

Show me some danger for lives there, and in Transistria.

Well you would hope in theory - but what is going to happen in practice is more likely to be quite drastic.
Nobody wants another thing like Somalia or Lebanon, or the debacle that occurred in Croatia.

I for one do not see the insertion of Soviet armed forces as necessarily meaning the Soviets hijacking and taking over the region.  By way of comparison is not the US or the UN capable of inserting armed forces then later removing them?

I am very alarmed at hearing about snipers shooting into crowds from rooftops.  I am not alarmed at seeing soldiers stationed on a corner with rifle pointed down.

I'm fairly confident Europe is too fat, too used to a peaceful way of life of eating and talking to start WW3 with russia :-) Unless the conspiracy theories about bankers starting ww's to profit are true that is...

RF goes only to territories, that are "former RSFSR" territories, where are ethnic Russians up to 95%.

They're nevertheless ukraine, i read on wikipedia: Crimea is now an autonomous parliamentary republic within Ukraine

From the guardian

Quote
Crimea, a south-eastern peninsula of Ukraine that has semi-autonomous status, was seized by Russian forces in the 18th century under Catherine the Great. It became part of Ukraine in 1954 when Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev transferred jurisdiction from Russia, a move that was a mere formality until the 1991 Soviet collapse meant Crimea landed in an independent Ukraine.

Well, I think best thing to happen would be for crimea to either declare full independence by referendum or join russia, but until either of both happened I think it's a dangerous situation they're in.
I do think they have all the right to decide for themselves.

Yes, but if YOU had to make the decision what plan of action would you instate?

Imo, they're doing an ok job asking russia for help to make sure a vote can happen soon in a stable and secure environment. As long as russia is just there to keep the peace that is.

Yes, but unfortunately the West will see this as a hostile action and not peace-keeping, as well as Russia having a plan for more than just peace-keeping in Crimea.

I'm from the west and the media is indeed putting it like that. Can't expect them to be objective, right? Lol

Nevertheless, I don't think the west is in any position to intervene in a military way, luckaly! Europe is weak, and the US isn't going to engage in a war with russia unless they are intend on war and use this as an excuse, wich I doubt. Also, the US is bound to lose a war in russia's backyard.

So in the end, europe and the US will talk and make speeches and that's all they'll do.

Russia’s Federation Council has unanimously approved President Vladimir Putin’s request to use Russian military forces in Ukraine. The move is aimed to settle the turmoil in the split country.

The upper house of the Russian parliament has voted in favor of sending troops to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which would ensure peace and order in the region “until the socio-political situation in the country is stabilized.”

It's been part of Russia for 3 centuries...

If Khrushev give Crimea not to Ukraine, he must give that land to create Jewish Socialist State in Crimea, under US Jews fund rising in 1930-s.

Crimean referendum is about to create a state within Ukraine.

Go on streamate or myfreecams, and ask girls from Ucraine, what they are thinking about new neo nazi power in Kiev.
