I don't think it has been a protocol hack. Why only on cryptopia? I think has been an inside job or another type of security breach.

I don't understand the redistribution part,if you get hack too bad,no way I accept that cryptopia will sell my shitcoin for those who decide to hold dangerous ethereum shit token

Eth smart contract protocol have lived more hack in 2 years than entire crypto asset in 10 years, thats very dangerous... and we're talking of direct hack from inside the coin protocool, not the exchange hack like bitcoin clone have been... Couldn't understand why this eth shit is so high, people are such dumb to propagate dangerous stuff

According to ccn other coins besides ethereum might have been stolen.

Elementus also revealed that the exchange had not only lost Ethereum but also other cryptocurrencies. These included Dentacoin, Lisk, Centrality, Zap, and Pillar.

They are all erc20 tokens that run on the Ethereum blockchain.

How do they not know how much funds have been stolen?  all coin and tokens not kept in cold wallets? Well how is still unknown how lost. and nothing can be done?  There are different things coming into the mind of people, for some reason cryptopia did not succeed in solving this problem.

What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger
Here is the latest news on Cryptopia. The company got control again but site continues offline.

https://i.stuff.co.nz/business/110607639/30-million-dollars-worth-of-stolen-cryptocurrency-is-hiding-in-plain-sight

Does it means DEX are bad as they can be sanctuary for criminals?

That's an interesting point, but on the other hand a DEX wouldn't be hacked (or self-hacked) like it happened with Cryptopia.

That's right, we don't know, because the owners or the managers have been hiding for a month. They are most welcome to share updates and inform us of what's happening with their customer's money. How about a statement, a press conference, a live youtube session explaining things and outlining plans for their customer's money?

Am all out of merits, but I wholeheartedly concur.
Thieves have been hiding for a month.
An honest exchange would have done the above within 72 hours.

For me its 100% scam
They should give a list of wallets adresses where the stolen crypto has gone. Some of the funds would be blocked and retrieved by exchanges and "thief" would need to find more safe places to cash out. But most of the people would be aware its stolen funds.
Except of that cryptopia staff decided to keep silence and let the funds flow annonymous. Only small part was caught and blocked by binance

I wouldnt be sutprised if all top volume coins has been cash out and only zero volume coins left intact. Maybe even they will give them back Wink

And dont think they will reipen cryptopia. They already show how much they care about customers hiding behind polices backs and lying thats police investigation caused no updates and information

I'll point a slight difference in wording that changes the meaning.

The police said in their latest update:
Quote
Cryptopia management have full access to their facilities and business premises and the Police investigation is not preventing their business from getting up and running again.
It means they had access, but it was limited.

But they said in their twitter update:
Quote
Update: The police have now given us access back to our building, while they continue their investigations.
Just by omitting the word "full" they changed the meaning, implying they were barred from entering the building.

I think the police statement is the more trustworthy.

Hey NZ police. If you read this:

Stop giving shelter for scammers. We want a proper investigation and detailed explanation. We have trusted topia since they are a legal company and controlled by NZ government. Please do your job.

This is how our heroes look Smiley - Cryptopia founders Adam Clark and Rob Dawson.

They are already dealing with a class action suit because of their delaying tactics /arbitrary freezing of wallets.

I see 2 possibilites:
- it was an exit scam fake hack. Funds are fucked.
- it was not & they will find a way to keep maybe half of whats left to "redistribute"

As expected another delay on cryptopia's part, they will stall this as much as they could and hope that their hacker will be caught and customers funds will be returned.

But this audit on how much was lost could be done in 24 hours since 1 man made a report about the stolens coins what more with an 80 employee team.

For now, we cant do anything but to wait up for further updates from them.We do only have that twitter account and that 1 month old announcement on their site itself. Reading up on both or following updates would only be in these mediums. We can speculate and give opinions anytime so it isnt bad if we do say things on what might be possibly happening inside.

Seems rather bullshit. I don't think the police forbids access to a building unless it's a human crime scene and the purpose is not to contaminate evidence. And evidence is lifted in a matter of days, not in a month. I don't see why the police would forbid someone from entering a building, especially given the situation: the police knows basically nothing about crypto and the people not allowed in are the ones that do and could explain and assist. They are acting as if a thief physically entered the premises and stole the crypto in bags and boxes.

Also this "we are not allowed to talk" is bullshit. They are not allowed to talk about specifics in the investigation, but nothing is preventing them to simply talk. There are two dimensions to this: the alleged theft and the public relations with customers. They can and should talk to customers, explain the situation as best as they can without revealing clues and so on. They could have made a press statement or a press conference and explain and reasurre customers.

Instead this hiding looks like a move to cover their asses. Not to mention that stating a month after the fact that you are assessing the dimension of the theft seems like incompetence. What were you doing the last month?
