As a cryptozian, miner, trader and staker, I'm cheering for Cryptsy to succeed. I feel it would be a great loss not to have them as an exchange.

Plus I always root for the underdog.

They appear to have it back online, however I don't use it so cannot verify functionality.

@nwfella So i shouldn't deposit cryptocurrencies either?

Just curious....if they close their doors, who gets to dig their database for possible clams hiding in there somewhere?  Curiosity is killing me here....are there any clam left to be dug there?  What's the over/under on the plot getting thicker here?  Way over? Slightly over?  (or) Wow, no freaking way!

I don't know what to think (of all wallets being offline)
i have not seen that before than i can remember.

They posted it so they must know..

Also there was no hack before but an exploit confirmed with
a chat user who tried to claim he made off with like 82 BTC or something. (and other incidents similar)
BitJohn and JShock etc all claimed he never got the coins off their servers.
And i do lean towards believing them on that but it's NOT what i was told.

but maybe their server was seized as a part of a Govt investigation ?

or maybe the computer crashed.. i don't know LOL
sort of poor timing for them though..

In the time they've been in operation, have they ever been hacked ?  so where did funds go? ...they siphoned accounts to pay salaries and expenses?...hard to believe...as there most likely would be jail time for such an offense..... they speculated on coins?... harder to believe....again they'd have to use client funds.

whoa, hey now, we only make wild accusations and throw around baseless accusations here..

hey bitjohn ...in your tenure there, did it ever seem like they were cash flow problems?

We don't take kindly to rational inquiry around these parts, please insert FUD and try again.

Been trying to get various coins out for weeks now but getting the same generic support emails and returned to balance.

To be honest anyone would be extremely lucky to get their balance out

unless Vern makes everyone good, yeah right Grin

Well hello there!
All wallets currently offline.  People have been complaining about both deposits and withdrawals for weeks now (I personally have an eth deposit thats 6 days old, no response to the ticket I created).

If I where a betting man, sadly I would probably lean towards the 'We got a runner' bet.

Going to be alotta sad ex-cryptsy users if this puppy is indeed done (myself included)

they just keep digging deeper and deeper.
Maybe this is the nail in the proverbial coffin.
is icebreaker claiming he sent and received coins after server went down.
btw...one server brings it all down...how long does it take to bring up a backup?

They forgot to implement an ELB... Elastic Load Balancer.

Cryptsy's data center is in Miami it would take Mullick or Paul about an hour or 2 to get there.

Without wanting to defend Craptsy, it doesn't mean much that the front end is on AWS. It's definitely not beyond common sense that they have a separate non-cloud server that runs the hot wallets. The site being on AWS really doesn't mean much in this case.

@Gleb
I was going to do a whois before i posted eh
They were running their own servers for a looooong time and that was their hoster.
No idea when they changed to Amazon..

So since i am at least in part right.. i still will proclaim i am right Wink

I also almost bought a T-Shirt at a Salvation Army used clothing store about 3 weeks ago.
It said "Winning" and had a giant picture of Charlie Sheen on it.
I was amused to no end and was standing there for a while laughing to myself LOL

I love Charlie Sheen he's awesome !

PS:
I collect "gently used" Heavy Metal concert / tour shirts (mostly long sleeves + hoodies)

"Backups on parallel servers or servers hooked up in series?"

Okay, I'll admit to wetting my pants on this one. Jim Shockney didn't know that BCT stood for BitcoinTalk, AND it was Terrik that didn't know that DC stood for Data Center and NOT Washingtion DC. To balance out the team, BitJohn can't use Google to figure out were the infamous Roger Ver quote stemmed from, and Paul Vernon first mined Litecoin when the difficulty was very low two years after it was already on the scene, abandoning Litecoin 30 days later because the difficulty skyrocketed to mine FeatherCoin. Meet Team Cryptsy. HAHAHA

Cryptsy,
are you fucking kidding? All wallets are down? What fucking clown show are you running? And here's the fucking cake.... 20 fucking times I try to log in and your captcha is fucking absolutely unreadable. Each has at least two unintelligible characters and I get a security exception. Fuck you you prick bastards. Paul you piece of shit. your days are numbered. I don't care where you go. your fucking days are numbered. You think realsolid had it easy? I will rain hell on your ass.

Well, let's be an objective, it was polite scam. Cryptsy gave almost mounth to withdraw coins, btc withdraw almost didn't work but it was possible to leave with alts. Even if you had 0 withdraw limits, it was still possible to trade all btc to some another account with working withdraw limits (with 0% trading fee it is not very hard on some empty market for example on pairs with XRP). There was enough time to run, mintpal for example gave much less and bter gave only several hours between empty cold wallet and down of exchange, mgox didn't give it at all (of course if you didn't run just after problem with fiat started).

PS. My theory of conspiracy found fact what they turned all servers down in exactly month after implement verification system very suspicion. If someone withdrawed big amount of coins before tier system, this mounthly limit recently were restored.

PSS. Even if it was real acident i can't image how many time they will sync some old almost not working wallets (3/4 of wallets on cryptsy) if even before all this mess started they updated wallet for mounths :|

It's not a scam but a strange event of bad circumstances.

It did not happen intentionally. Having so much bad news come out made them insolvent and so a lot of people wanted to step out (just look how it killed the altcoin market).

Well to be fair you could still have a server down even on amazon but I would be inclined to bet very, very heavily that it would not be a hardware failure.

Important System Notification

Due to a server failure, all wallets are offline. We will have wallets back online quickly as possible

The first thing that comes to mind before I read past this post is that Cryptsy has multiple servers with backups, all at Amazon.

No they have never used any type of cloud hosting like Cloudflare etc.
They run their own server machines.
If they go down there is backup's at Bigvern's house LOL

I have a topic here on their hoster they use to fro tech nerd Wink
i will edit this in a minute grabbing coffee..

EDIT:
I figured you were being sarcastic Gleb and you knew that.
