The goal is to just use 1 PCI slot per PICO PSU.  So you can easily power 4 rigs no issues using splitter cables.  1 6pin cable split to power both the GPU and the 6pin  riser.  It's going to be DAMN SEXY and SO CLEAN.  Please with the longer cablings, you can do very funky designs.   Finksy just got back from Vaca.  He's going to send me a bunch of stuff for the many different prototypes.  The possibility is endless and so is the POWER!  FORGET 1KW, 1300 or even EVGA 1600 limitations!!!  4-4500W!!!   RIDICULOUS POWER and READY for any GPU u want to throw at it.   All my 4KW is tied up so I'm waiting for more from Finksy and a ton of PICOs to do many different designs.

P.S Cryptowatcher will be my main man for Custom cabling.  It will be known as MY CRYPTO CABLES!!  I can see him filling in our community needs for custom cablings.  Will see what he can come up with for my Prototypes.  Very excited with everyone's contribution to my project.

yes yes, custom cables for nhan's prototypes! as soon as I get most of the supplies I need I will post up some pic's of the cables after making some

Wow that sounds great. So are we just waiting for Finsky/hawkfish to work together and offer these to the community here so we can buy them?

Also, how many plugs from the server PSU do you need for the mobo connector and CPU spot on the mobo? Curious how many rigs you can power with 1 of the 4kw psus using this new pico method.

I will show step by step on that.  Here is short idea.

OLD WAY
Baby ATX PSU (Crap efficiency and reliability)  powers risers and MB.  Bulky, cheap but not cheap enough and if you go really cheap (Below $45-50), it's more headache then it's worth.  More wires and a big ATX PSU behind your rig blocking flow and your acccessibility to the GPUs.

PICO OLD Way
Expensive and the built in CPU connector is too short to reach our mining Rig CPU connection.  You need to use bulky AC adapter which makes it more expensive and more connections and things to plug in and hide. $40-60 each!  Too much money

*********PICO NEW WAY***************
Powered completely by Server PSU via 6 pin direct to soldered PICO connection or via 2.5MM Barrel connector.  It would also split to power the CPU connections.  The PICO PSU comes with at least 1 molex and 1 SATA connection so you can power SSD, etc.  98% of your power will come from the SERVER PSU.  Even if you got a crappy Pico, if it dies.  It's a cheap $20-25 replacement.  The PICO PSU is tiny and the size of the motherboard connector head.  You won't see it.  The server PSU cable can go up to 48" easily.  Using PCI powered risers and splitters, you reduce all the SATA, MOLEX, MB cable clutters.  Also no ATX PSU in the rear of the rig.  So better airflow.  I will have lots of examples later but look at my previous examples on the Ebay PICO I bought.

Yun9999,

Can you explain how in the future we would be able to use the 4kw server PSU to power the entire computer? Or is that not what you want from finsky? I guess I don't really know what PICO is. I would love to be able to get PSUs for cheaper with nice efficiency ratings

The same PSU, I've been discussing.  2 x IBM 2KW PSU Finksy sells plus his 4KW board.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ibm-dps-4kw-psu-dual-dps-2000bb-breakout-boards-and-packages-1308296

It also work with the IBM DPS2500W PSU too making it over 4500W.  Many of the large miners use it as they had it from the Bitcoin mining.  You pair this Beast with the PICOs you get many Beauties.  More to come on that.  Waiting on PICOs, PSU and FANs from Finksy.

@  onefinecoin  - Still considered Domestic as it's still all at home.  Only hosting I do is for a friend at cost as he's the one that show me Eth mining.  =)

@ darkshaddows - Dell and HP 42U Racks.

@ m1n1ngP4d4w4n -  Thanks...........just getting warm up bud.  Got more crazier / sexier prototypes coming out of my lab in a few weeks

@ takagari - Open Air if you can easily modified structures like my Shed, warehouse, etc.  Cheapest, fast to deploy and if you can mod structure, it's not hard to control heat.  This style is due to limited control of what I can do for heat removal.  Lots more work but I also want clean no cable mess and sexiness.  =)

Do you guys use the cheaper open air racks or the pricey fancy racks for those?

I think for a large scale deployment like he is doing this is the best way to do it since you can better control the direction of heat

Marvel - You wouldn't have this issue if you had more powerful PSU!  HAhahaha........  7 x 470 and you can't power it?  COME ON, stop buying 1KW PSU!! The FANs are waiting.  Shut down another rig and bring another baby PSU over to help.  Just kidding.    Thanks for the update. You make me very happy as I have 15 of these.

4-5KW Baby 4-5KW Baby!  Holla at Finksy, time for a upgrade.  I have 5 on the way in preparation for VEGAs and 2 for Protypes.

A little PEEP Show of my progress.  I'm ALL ABOUT DA BASS!!!!!!!!!!! THE CRYPTO BASS!  5th Rack is 50% populated with GPUs on the way to fill em.

6th reserved for the VEGAAAAAAAAS!

Hi,

what exact is the model of server rack that you are using?

Also, are you throwing the hot air up the rack? or from the front?

Thanks
he is using various brand server racks but there all 42U server racks, which can fit about 9 to 10 of the 4u server cases

Clueless!
Watching this thread, I wish to make my own thread entitled "Data Center Mining Mecca and Bat Cave (er man cave) Smiley

Alas... I need to win the lottery.....I figure a 10 million $$$ power ball win would about do it Smiley

Damn, would I go nuts. I also could move down south where it is warm and the 3-4c kwh electric roams free (kinda) Smiley

Toys, I need more toys...but at 13c kwh summer rate in Minnesota.....this boat has sailed (home miner wise) ..the stuff in the data hall is next I guess

pretty, pretty toys on this thread however (envy..must stop envy....grrrrrrr) Smiley

WOW!!!

Its hard enough with my current 33 rigs in the warehouse..... I cant imagine how you will handle these many rigs.

Racking them up so neatly like this will surely create some structure and control the environmentals.

I hope I can complete my first rack soon and be as bad-ass as your setup.

Meanwhile mine-on!

I have like 20 1k-1375 lep, suprnova and roswill pSUs already sitting around waiting to be RMAED , I dont think i will be buying those 4k Deals anytime soon , not really adding that much for hash with summer electricity rates and heat just around the corrner.
I will RMA this lot as spared and backups for now.

If finsky or somomne comes up with a platinum rated solution uing those 4k bundles that can power, the PC-E slots, risers and motherboard and CPU in one nice complete package I would probbaly buy one to play with but for now
I'm fine with a 5-6 GPU rigs.

5 Rx480s on 1k Platinum PSU or 6 RX 470s on 1k Platinum PSUs, when i get back the lepa and Suprnova RMAs i could do six 480s on those 1375 and 1200 watt PSU's

Its hard enough for me to manage 30 rigs not sure how you guys do it lol , I'm not building anymore for a while until i play with SRR to help me manage more machines

GUYS - Citronick / Phillip , can u guys test this?  I'm traveling and won't be home for a few more days so I can't confirm.

This is for the Z170 GT7 Racing MB.  Biostar support say it should be able to support 7 GPU via risers no issues.  Can either of you test and then confirm?

Dear sir

Please follow the following web-site and try again once,

(1) set all PCI-E at gen2

(2)go to BIOS " Chipset" > System Agent (SA) Configuration > Max TOLUD > Set to [3.5GB]

Genius i also bought six of these racing boards on a whim since they were so cheap, i could only get it to detect 4 cards before, updated it with these settings and it worked with six GPUS

I also updated the bios before this to the latest version.

Not tried it with 7 i dont have any more risers, Microcenter had a deal on some GPUs on newegg they are $184 microcenter had them for $164 so  grabbed six of these to play with

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131699

*new problem **

it detects all the cards but 3 cards do not seem to have enough bandwith or something , they are only mining at 8mhs vs 27 or , trued ti reinstall drivers same deal, gona try a clean install in the am

are you using claymore 8?

try  -ehti 4            the default is -ethi 8  if left blank

it that does not work

try doing it with simple mining uses linux  a fast install.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/mining-os-simpleminingnet-manage-your-gpu-farm-the-easy-way-30-days-free-1541084

I sometimes get the 4mh and 7mh bugs with windows on the board.

using smOS  it does not happen.

what cpu are you using ?  a pentium or a celeron?

if you have an i3 or and i5 it may help

you fix the 4mhs bug by putting in a display port cable to every graphics card one at a time with the other end connected to your monitor. vwaaaaala no more 4mhs bugs

Yeah. Also a dvi to Hdmi to monitor will work.

All for the 4mhs bug ..the 7 mh bug is different. As is the 8 mh

ok thanks for all  tips , i fixed the problem by opening up watttool and resetting the card that was basically showing that it was overheated , seems like a power profile from the nano i replaced
with a rx 470 for some reason after multiple re-installs of the AMD drivers something seemed to be saved ? I uninstalled from safe mode using DDU.

Now all six cards work like a charm, I plugged in a 7th card and it is detected by the board, I can't mine with 7 cards since i have no PSU that can power so many cards so I cant
say 100% it will mine with 7 cards.

Bottom line this is my fav new board, it can use newer processors which means even with the g44 Pentium , so nore more lagging while mining the pc runs silky smooth still with
six cards active.  I also like the LED's so I know its on, the bios is extensive so many setting , most other 1151 boards i tried don't have the max TOLUd setting and so many other settings I found in the bios.

also it will keep resale better since its a newer sixth gen board.

Interesting.... so Marvell, you can confirm that the BIOSTAR Z170 GT7 mobo with the settings mentioned by yun9999 does take 7 cards?

I have not gone to the warehouse yet thanks to bad batch of sushi I ate last week so I havent got the energy to go out and play yet.

If 7 cards on Z170-GT7 is possible... then I think yun9999 will be very happy.

I too will revamp my Nanos into 7-riggers with the 1600w EVGA because that PSU have 9 x PCI cables out.

yes 7 cards are detected , you have to set gen 2 on all the PCI-E slots and also GEN-2 on the other page where you set the Max TLUD to 3.5

like i said i have no way to power 7 rx 470s constitently, i let it start up mining eth/pascal and the PSU powered its self down which indicates too much of an initial power draw
once i disabled one card in the device manager i can mine with six cards fine.  I'm also in the process of re-installing the OS from scratch on this board running updates overnight
to see if its a quicker fix to the issues i had earlier.

**edit **
yeah a clean install , all six cards worked as normal at full speed.  Seems like even DDU could not clear some driver setting saved by MSI afterburner.
Never seen that before , but at least we know it was nothing to do with the board.

I only have six , mostly got them for resale purposes on ebay but i like these boards , I even like the packaging box.  I think i will keep them as spares
