I noticed under advanced the other day that I had found a block at some point. I have only made about 8BTC from Deepbit so this was both extremely lucky and unlucky. It would be nice if there were some sort of a reward for finding a block quicker than you should but I don't think that will happen. Of course I could go solo mining but that would be fruitless since the odds of me finding another block soon are slim to none. Can you at least show the date and block id of the ones we found? Another idea would be to split the transaction fees with the block finder since they are currently kept by the pool operators. I came back because I think neither BIP 16/17 are ready for deployment without additional testing and I found out some things I didn't like about the other pool I switched to. In all honesty, once the BIP thing blows over I will probably be looking for another pool again but I think these are things you should look at.

What is the recommend number of gpus per worker on deepbit?
I recommend using one worker per one mining core. This also makes monitoring easier.Directing more than 20 miners to single worker account will disable LP for this worker.

Ist there any other port to use? My ISP blocks port 8332. Any chance to make port 80, 443 or anything like this available?
Currently no other ports are available for mining.Have you tried asking your ISP support to unblock it ?

Thats rather disturbing. More than 3 double spends being attempted as we speak by the looks of it.
Most of those "attempts" are just people recently restored their wallet.dat from backups or trying to use copies of same wallet.dat file on different PCs without performing full rescan.It's not dangerous.

There are many reasons not to pull any tricks with "selling mining power"
So, what is the purpose of selling hash power to someone else?1) Direct this mining power to some pool with lower fees and just take the difference without supporting own servers.
2) Sell it to some other reseller, paying more than 0% PPS.
3) Sell it directly as mining contracts. This may sound like a kind of gambling, but some persons may think that in future, with ongoing difficulty or USD/BTC rate adjustments they can gain more than the amount paid for given hashrate. Sometimes this is profitable.
Is there a thread where this is discussed? Yesterday was the first I had heard of it.

I had never heard or conceived of such a thing until I looked at Goat's pool thread yesterday where he states he can pay more per share than the what is earned from solving blocks by reselling the hash's.
Why is that? And how can that work? And what are these third parties doing with these hash's/hash power that they are paying more than they are worth?

You hit the nail on the head my friend. I am concerned about where sold hashing power may go. Who is to say someone doesn't buy the hashing power to mount a 51% attack or something like that.
Edit: Not that I think Goat would have anything to do with such an attack.

No, we are not selling any hashing power.Hashes of all our mined blocks are published on the stats page and can be analyzed by anyone to check this.

1) relaying shares to some other place greatly reduces stability.
2) selling small part of hashing power is meaningless, but selling most power is impossible since very few private projects can sustain it (if any)
3) (I forgot the 3rd one, but it has something to do with responsibility)
As for the case with your other pool, I think that pure PPS pool can do anything he wants with those shares unless you don't like some specific usage.
Thanks Tycho this is what I wanted to know. This other person claimed you were and I thought it was BS. As far as them doing what they want with hashing power because its PPS I just think it is misleading to call yourself a pool if you are really acting as proxy. I would like to know my shares are going towards x purpose and in this case it is preserving the current protocol.

I was thinking of coming back to deepbit for several reasons. One of the largest is the BIP 16/17 issue of being untested. I support Tycho in his efforts to maintain the original protocol.

What are the consequences of having a "Poolhopping detected" message for my account stats ? I can't find this message documented anywhere.
It's added just for testing automatic detection routines, punishing is not implemented yet.slap them hoppers in the sack.
