I figure I've got a couple of days to learn how and set something up.

I've never mined a damn thing...don't know anything about it.  Can I mine CPU?  Can I use Amazon ec2?  How to set that up?  I will find some reading on it tomorrow night, but if anybody can point me to shortcuts, PM me or post here.

Check your PM for AWS mining info.

Could you PM me the same data for AWS 5w00p?  Grin

lets move on. +1 to aminorex from me for admiting he was wrong.
i know, hard night for all of us, lets not fight, at least the monero holders should try to stick together now.

Yes, this.  I want to set up mining.  I think the more of us do it, the less susceptible XMR will be to any of the potential attacks.

More mining is more secure. That extends beyond this episode. People sometimes forget that the purpose of mining is not "Free Moneys!" it is to secure the network. If you want to help the network. mine. (It doesn't have to be a massive rig or farm, every little bit helps.)

Please remember to spread out your hash rate to smaller pools or solo mine.

http://lab.monero.cc/pubs/MRL-0001.pdf confirmed flaws in monero - crypto note is doomed-  stealthcoins chandran signatures is obvious the way to go

This has already been addressed by the Monero devs and doesn't doom cryptonote.

Chandran signatures have the same issue, and are much bigger and slower, and have other issues. We don't know if they will be practical to use but if so we can drop them in. Ignore the shill.

Don't know about them being slower, but are they really bigger?  Just looking at the SealthSend whitepaper and it says they're smaller.

"For example, instead of requiring 9.5 kB, a 100 key Chandran signature (with no further optimizations) would would require about 7 kB."

The constant factor is much bigger. Yes if you do 100 mix sig it will probably be smaller. If you do a 5 or 10 mix it will be bigger. You are stuck with large transactions regardless of the degree of mixing you want. If we do add Chandran signatures we would likely have both kinds with a cutoff.

Under the right conditions (not using dusty inputs) our transactions can be extremely small. For example, take a look at this one, mix 5 and only 824 bytes:

http://chainradar.com/xmr/transaction/08d5befb17f0708766733ef57419855954f6885488662f588f2005459eb3cdb5

There are some other issues with them I'm not prepared to address right now, but we will have a writeup at some point.

It then goes on to talk about using random nonces for more savings and ends up with this I think.

"For example, a 100 key stealthsend signature requires only about 3.8 kB, compared to 9.5 kB for CryptoNote ring signatures."

Are there other things that might mitigate theses savings?

So to clarify, Anonymint is working on the same exploit that Tacotime is already working on, and is no big deal.

And BCX is still lying about having the super exploit to steal funds. Why doesn't he just steal 500 bitcoin worth of Monero? Sounds like he can't.

This is entertainment, but not reality.

Good catch, Kuriso.

aminorex may still try to deflect and cast doubt on the fact that BCX was in the trollbox but these logs do not lie and TheKoziTwo provided a screenshot.

Well, aminorex has a ton of cred with me.  This doesn't diminish it, either.  I'm guessing he isn't intentionally trying to mislead.  Shit unfolded in a pretty crazy way today.

So since i am a bit lost i would like to ask you that:

Even if there is an actual bug and it gets confirmed, can it be fixed? Whats your take on that...

P.S. Just the day that all this is happening my S3 died and i cant login to polo because of 2FA. So i dont even have an option of what to do Tongue

I answered already upthread.

My opinion is subject to change, but for the moment before I sleep I feel the aspect of an attack that can reveal spenders is very likely. However without the ability to crack private keys, then what is the financial motivation of performing the attack?

The cracking of private keys is much less likely, probably unlikely.

Also to spend the private keys requires a TW or 51% attack. Any TW attack hole can be fixed.

Also the Sybil amplification against anonymity can likely be mitigated somewhat too.
