It only becomes bad in image if gambling doesn't give you benefit and it only takes away you a lot of things which makes your life miserable. And in my case, it's not happening so I'm still good and my reputation in my neighborhood doesn't really affect and coming up to that point.
And why it matters if we gamble to our neighborhood? do they give the money that we will spend in gambling? are we ruining their lives as we gamble, no we don't and they don't.
@passwordnow yeah right, sometimes it'll spread on the community that you spent all of your money just for gambling and it will ruin your reputation.
And that's the start why people think that you do no good with your life because you have been spending it over and over again in gambling.
The reputation in your neighborhood will start to crumple and their look at you will become different after knowing that you've been into gambling.

That is so true. In my case, my co-teacher thought that I am gambling and ashamed me in front of my students. It is hard to deal with that since you already built your reputation for a long time but it will be taken down just by a single misunderstanding.

In my years of gambling, I guess, there's not much of an impact on my personal reputation while playing. Except one time that a friend told me that I got a little bit cocky since I started gambling. But I think that he doesn't really know that I really show my cockiness once the adrenaline of playing kicks in because whenever I play (not just in gambling but in every game) whenever there is a stake, my cocky persona shows up. What I can just say is, don't listen to whatever they say as long as you are having fun.

In our society there is an ingrained belief that gambling often leads to great losses.

The money management is the main reason for great losses, cant lose what you dont bet.   I think the addiction might be to spending money that isnt available, same way some people will shop for the idea that brings happiness even if they dont need the items and even if they dont have the money.   Both problems would go back to the money problem, the gambling is almost secondary seems like.   Some people shop alot but go to look for items that arent expensive or require alot of sorting through items to find something rare and missed by others, thats a good way to avoid the money issue but continue the interest in shopping.
I'd argue people can gamble but need to avoid using too large a bet, Crypto is ideal for small bets imo as it usually allows tiny amounts.

I think if we are playing gambling online, it is not affected by our personal reputations because if we don't tell other people, they will not give a bad name to us. It is different if we are playing gambling offline. People will see what we do in real life so they can give or judge us with bad things. So I think it depends on what ways we are playing gambling because as long as we can keep secret about what we do, we will be fine.

And that visiting an offline casino can somehow be compared to an act condemned by society?
Everyone spends their leisure time in different ways. Some people like to play football, others prefer hockey, but there are those who go to the casino to drink beer and put a couple of hundred dollars in the machines or play poker.
I do not consider this something shameful and reprehensible. The main thing is that a person knows the measure and does not leave all their money in the casino.

I mean, that is not condemned or shameful, but in some cultures, especially in Asian culture, when people are going to visit gambling places, it can get a bad name in society. Maybe people like to see the ordinary hobby or usual that other people do like playing soccer or other sports. But some of them cannot accept if gambling is like a hobby because, in their places, gambling can be something that can damage the mentality. So if that person can quiet and not tell other people about his activity in gambling, maybe everything will be fine as long as he doesn't change his behavior in society.

Unfortunately, I haven't spent a single day in Asia. That is why I will believe your words. However, it seems strange to me that a person can be treated badly because of how he spends his leisure time. I only refer to cases where a person does not overuse gambling.
Overuse of gambling as well as alcohol, etc. is subject to censure in any society.

In my personal experience, yes.

I am really into gambling ever since, and those people around me knew that I am gambling. I always feel like someone is watching over me, all people around me changed their treatment ever since that they knew that I am gambling. How we treat each other before is not the same as how we treat ourselves right now.

Since then, I distance myself to avoid getting judge by them, I don't really want to get in trouble or be hurt by what they think of me, right now I am always by myself and that is how gambling affects my personal reputation.

Just to answer the OP's question here. Gambling has not affected my personal reputation as my friends don't know that I'm into gambling as I only play in online casinos that I have never divulged with them.  Grin And honestly, I started online gambling because of crypto. Though I have been in physical casino, but not really a regular patron, on occasions only (esp when in vacation). You can gamble anonymously with even low capital nowadays in online casinos. So all in all, they don't have any idea that I am gambling from time to time, though for me it's really not big of a deal as well as I only gamble my extra extra money. I'm just gambling for entertainment purposes only and winnings is just a bonus.

In our society there is an ingrained belief that gambling often leads to great losses. In addition, some people with a bad psyche may have ludomania. If you have full control over your gambling activities and can stop at any time, there is no need to report a passion for gambling to relatives. But if gambling takes over your self-control in this case, relatives better know about your hobby.

It is the advantage of playing online gambling/casino. Everybody doesn't know your identity since you can play in an anonymous way. And about the effect/impact on reputation, it depends on the player how they can manage it. If they can do everything properly and not excessively, it doesn't affect anything.

I only gamble my extra extra money. I'm just gambling for entertainment purposes only and winnings is just a bonus.
You did the correct way by using only extra money and never expect too much for the prizes (winning). In this way, you won't be trapped on debt/loan and you can avoid addiction as well. So, you can play freely, whenever you want. Good job, mate!!

Not at all because is only few of my friends that are aware that I do play gambling and this friends do play gambling too though they don't make good money from it the way I do. Telling other people who have negative perception about gambling is not ideal because their comments will demoralize you and was why I don't discuss such issue with such people.

It depends.

Sometimes, if a person is a gambler, they're giving a negative impression towards that person and I really hate the fact that most of the people are like that. But since I'm just a casual gambler, it wasn't really a thing for me.

Gambling does affect some people's reputation and it doesn't affect others. My answer is biased based on the surroundings as well as the area you live in. I never faced these issues because I had my surroundings who were gamblers too and they neither stopped me nor themselves, no curses, no borrowing, nothing like that. If you play with your own money, you have the right to do so because you are not putting anybody else's money at stake so nobody should have any problem with you but this is not same in some countries where people's mentality is narrow-minded and they just try to be over smart to you and ask you to leave these 'addictions' even though you are doing it just for fun sake.
It would really depend on where you do live and as you mentioned each places do have particular impressions towards gambling. Most of them are on negative side which they do treat it up like a disease
and when someone got involved with it then they do already have bad insights or comments towards to that individual.
On my part i dont experience such treatment or problem and same as yours where people doesnt care on what are the things you are into as long you dont disturbed nor mind others business
then they do just ignore on things that youve been doing.

Everyone stating that gambling will affect someone's image in the society -snip-
What gambling? Play online gambling or play gambling in real life? For online gambling, it will harm your reputation only if you are addicted. You may forget to have more time for your family, neighbors, or friends once you are too serious about playing gambling. And you probably prefer a debt loan and traped on it if you cannot manage/limit your funds. While playing gambling in real life, people usually think negatively when they know it. This happens immediately and spreads fast.
Gambling will affect your personal reputation only if you do something like that. loaning for the sake of gambling is the worst thing you can do, even simply loaning will affect your reputation so imagine using someone else money to gamble. Personally, gambling didn't affect my personal reputation considering that, I only gamble for fun and if sometimes I gamble to win I will just go by myself and use my own extra money.
Indeed, its depend to player if they do bad when gambling because when they gamble without discipline then it can lead them to a harm not only to their money but most especially to their self. I think players should be more careful because they are possible from addiction when they so much determination to use their hobby to get rich.

We are just humans and finding or looking for something entertaining would really be there thats why committing things which opposes your religions views would
really give out significant negative impact to your reputations and as said , when someone do able to see you on doing such violating act.If you do know that it
can heavily affect your reputation in first place then better to avoid it but actually there are lots of ways for you to hide which you can make to play.
It will really be on case to case basis because not all would really have same scenarios in life.
You can hide things especially in terms of your gambling activities, online is really booming and from this venue you are capable of hiding your gambling practices, there's no one who can see you when you play in front of your personal computer or mobiles devices. And same from what you have said it's situational as we do have different scenarios in life, human instinct to find entertainment in life and for some people gambling fits to their needs.
