quick question, do you think you'll organize another difficulty contest in the near future ?  Hashrate is still all over the place and shows no sign of....normalcy.  Plus another fork is incoming in a month (maybe), now that will be interesting to watch.  One thing is for sure, Bitmain and friends sure succeeded with their evil plans for higher profitability....10% bonus on bitcoin balances + mining profitability for sha256 is much, much higher than before.

well back on point

diff is still near 20%

coins are about 3700

bcc  may have a bust out move  when diff jumps  20% for btc.

I have been mining it for a while. It could be a good coin.

Intel stated "10 nm end of road for Silicon".

IBM has mentioned used HYBRID Germanium/Silicon wafers in their 7NM experimental development (this would end up on Global Foundries since GF ended up with the IBM fabs some years back when IBM decided to spin off that part of their business).

This should probably move over to the "Phil's 6'th thread" for any further discussion.

It's ONE company "GMO", and I believe their originally announced May 2018 timeframe was way optimistic.
They seem to have toned the timeframe back to "have working silicon in 2018" which sounds like they are targeting TAPE-OUT by the end of 2018 and might be a viable target (that would put actual PRODUCTION into 1Q or 2Q of 2019).

They seem to have also had some bad timing on when to get involved, with the recent news out of China - unless China DOES in fact ban Bitcoin and it puts Bitmain/BW.COM/EBit and the other smaller Chinese miner makers out of business (Innosilicon will probably survive, they'll go back to being a custom design house like they were before they started doing Cryptocoin ASIC).

Many thanks for your insights. There is another one called DMM. https://www.coindesk.com/e-commerce-giant-dmm-to-launch-bitcoin-mining-venture/

Apart from the bad timing aspects you mentioned, I still can't get my woolly head round the 7nm part - thought the limits were being reached around 10-12nm.

Further, do you actually believe these announcements? Haven't we all heard more such announcements than were to be believed?

As long as they stay up I will start it back up.

Great news. Sorry for off topic.

A lot of action.

coinbase dropped under 3000

  2975  back to 3352

on hashnest  the  s-7   was  making good money  when coins were 4500 plus

it is still at the 49% level

what does this mean?  it means bitmain is still whaling as now one checks to see if they run s-9's and charge for s-7's

Bitcoin FTW!
My S7 is still truckin along barely profitable right now... thinking of just throwing it in the miner museum with a few other old relics. I'm surprised these things have made it so far, two years of mining... shame Bitmain doesn't make anything nearly as reliable these days.

BTCC suspends trading and price plunged to $2500 temporarily on the exchange... with the difficulty rises combined with that I don't see this thing making it that far anymore sadly.

Just had a look at the 9 month chart on bitcoinwisdom...wow that is pretty crazy.  If bitcoin price goes down to 2500 lets say, and diff keeps truckin` then its safe to say a lot of S7's will be going into retirement.....

I suspect some already have - they're NOT profitable unless you have SUPER cheap electric.

I would have thought the BCC "Emergency Difficulty Adjustment" (as I understand it) would have "expired" by now and it would be back to the normal 2016 block adjustment interval. Right now it appears that BCC still needs this "crutch"?

That seems like a poor situation long term, though maybe the "Emergency" only needs to last a while longer.

I can understand why BCC seemed desirable to Bitmain since it would supposedly increase the set of folks that would want an S9 (i.e. BCC-only miners).
I'm guessing they're keeping this "crutch" up only so that people will actually mine the coin. Without it, it seems not a whole lot of people would mine on that chain and thus they're likely keeping this in place just to incentivize people to mine there. Realistically this should've lasted at most a week but it seems like this emergency is extremely prolonged or there's miners involved/incompetent devs.

the problem will show when BTC  jumps 20%  if it does not rise to about 4350  BCC  is the clear coin to mine

viabtc.com

has

 btc          at 9580ph  3900 usd
 bcc/bch   at   900ph   500 usd

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-difficulty.html#3m

 diff is 922
 diff is 119

the diff will jump to 1106 for btc

 1106/119       9.30 to 1   so 500 x 9.30 = 4650

 vs   922/119   7.75 to 1 so 500 x 7.75 =  3875

so right now   bcc is 500 btc is 3900

current diff is               7.75 to 1  btc is slightly better to mine

once diff jumps   btc to bcc/bch  needs to be 4605 to 500  to be better.     to mine  so we are going to see swings.

viabtc offers auto switching:

so a lot of hash may switch to bcc next jump

maybe bcc prices crashes

or maybe  btc price rises

Well  if coins stay at 3800  and diff jumps 20%

a huge swing will go to BCC/BCH

at the moment

8233ph = BTC           coin price is 3900

 974ph = BCC/BCH   coin price is   514

BTC diff is pushing a big diff jump

BCH diff is flat

8233/974 =  8.45

8.45 x 514 =  4344

so when that big diff jumps for btc   if btc is  at 3900 and bcc/bch  is at  514      a lot of hash will switch to BCC

basically for every 3900 you earn with btc you would earn 4344 for bcc/bch

this is really dangerous may make market nuts.
