I invest in both top ranked and lowly ranked coins. If you have done your research adequately and you are sure of what you have done, then there is no need to panic. Then invest in a project also from the perspective of the team. This means that team is very essential in the success of every project. If the team is not active,  then you should be very careful of investing in such.

The first 50-100 projects are more reliable according to me so especially in bear market I invest to just top 20-30 projects, small projects drop off a huge amount so I don't invest to them.

Hi Everyone,

As advised I am trying to learn the basics of crypto first.

Most of the suggestions mention investing in top ranked coins. My question is, does it always work? As far as I understand, the market is vulnerable and affects almost all the coins from top to bottom. How then you determine which ones would stay ?

I usually do that because that only gives me an assurance about investing. As for me, it is important that we'll know where to put our money appropriately. There are lots of potential coins these days but we should know what to choose and where to put our money.

As along time traders. Top rank coins is not as profitable as the low one but just the risk is what is the difference.  Cryptocurrencies market demand wisdom to really make money from it and one of the investment strategies people used is to invest in a low coins so that with little cents increasing they can sell at profits.
It is better to invest in proven coins and those that occupy a small place in terms of capitalization. such altcoins can give huge profit

Most of these top rated hasn't done as expected, basically I  also invest in other Bitcoin. Infact my major break in cryptocurrency wasn't from a top rated coin
they have a large enough cryptocurrency market and investors have earned their capital through new projects, they are only using Bitcoin and ethereum. Even simple tokens last year gave quite good results for many investors. It seems that everything is already in the past.

I think the point with this is that the top coins are more established. They are less likely to fail completely and drop to $0, but also they are less likely to go x100 as they already have a large marketcap.
The smaller, lower-ranked coins are where you'll find those that turn $1 into $1000, but there is also vastly more risk of the coin failing.

Everyone has their own position I suppose. Mine is that I have mostly high ranked coins that I am confident in for the long-term, and then a few more speculative lower-ranked coins.

not really, for me its better to invest in under rated coins which has a good chance to make my investments x100 in the future, like buying them cheap and sell high.

It's still a good  way for many people because when you invest in top coins , your risk is lower when investing in other coins because their prices fluctuate very small , so you have to keep it for a long time to make a good profit from it.

I invest to the ranked coins but not go for all because I choose the coins only with big potential in the future, so I'd say if I also invest to the non-ranked coins which I research before invest.

Most of the cryptocurrencies I have in my portfolio are the top-rated altcoins (TRON, Stellar, DASH, Litecoin, Ethereum). Meanwhile, it does not mean that I ignore the other alts. I hold Credits, Napoleon X.
Your strategy is right, most of your money should be invested in the coins that have the most confidence of the community, however you should also invest a small part of your capital in coins that are not very well known because you have a chance to multiply your money many times in a relatively short amount of time by investing in those coins and if you happen to lose you are not going to lose a huge amount of money.

No, they are probably the safest bets, but if you want to earn more, you need to take more risks. I read new projects' whitepapers, invest in ICOs and take some risk.

Not always, but I usually select top ranked coins.
At the same time I rarely find low ranked coins, with low market cap, but good development and predict its growth to top ranked competitors in terms of market cap
Top ranked coins = low risk, big volume, no chance to become the next millionaire
Low ranked coins = high risk, low volume, it has a chance to become the next millionaire
everyone should know about the advantage of low marketcap coin and top ranked coins. as a trader and he will choose the big volume as the main consideration.

Top ranked coins are safer as people will continue to invest in them first, but it won't rise as much as the lower market cap coins. However, these are very hit and miss so you need to get lucky with the low end CMC coin of your choice

You are right the market is always volatile and the top ranked coins can also come down. Have a look at the coinmarketcap on 2016 and you'll see a lot of top coins went down and lost attention from the market.

Though its highly recommende at this moment with those coins because they have higher market cap but it all depends on the development and what that coin's purpose. There are few coins on the top that aren't worth risking your money.
Yeah, but the top ranks coin are lower risky investment. Because you can't believe with unknown coins investment. Marketcap ranks always changing when different potential coin coming in the market. But i am not always invest in top ranks coin,  i have a lot different coin even which is not listed in coinmarketcap.

Well it's always going to be safer to bank on coins that have already established a good following compared to start ups where you need thorough study just to make sure it's legit. The market is volatile enough for the old reliables so i'm not really at ease with gambling with upcoming coins just yet.
