Investing in top ranked coins is the safest investment yet you would not get a significant gains if you arent putting alot, on the other hand small caps have a lot of room to grow since their caps are almost 2-3mil$ but it also has the biggest risk

No, not always. They are sometimes good investment, and sometimes bad one. It is safer to invest in the top ranked coins. You need a lot of luck to find the good coins.

The top listed/ranked coins in the market are coins that can gain a good or better profit. And its good to invest in short or long term, and you are right market is vulnerable or volatile, so when it comes down, the top coins also is going down.

Yes mostly I prefer top 100 coins but not always, sometimes I go for others coins also. Top 50 or 100 is somewhat safe but if you want some good return and able to take risk you can go for other coins also.

And it is not sure that top 50 or 100 will always give you returns.

Investing in top ranked coins is supposed to be lower risk since the projects have developed. However, low ranked coins with potential will be suitable if you want bigger profit. In fact, most projects started with low rank. So, I think investing in the ‘right” project is more important than looking at the rank. To find the “right” project, you have to do tons of research.

I want to get a big profit so I don't like to invest in the top rank coins because their prices are always higher than others so earn x10 or x20 times profit is difficult than others when we compare trading volume daily between them.
On the one hand, this is true. But in the top coins there is at least some stability. In the little-known altcoins, it is only embarrassing that you have to sit and wait for x10 or x20, and whether this coin will give "X" at all.

Ever since I started doing cryptocurrency I've only invested in only one top altcoins which is the popular ethereum and so far I have lost about 70 percent of my investment, that is bad because there are even some altcoins that are not top coins that are growing though it's not good to invest randomly but with luck it does work.. The bear market has affected all top altcoins badly

Yes, adventurers are usually a small number of investors. Most people invest in high quality coins is the best way. The rich nights are only suitable for adventurers. Because they have to pay for the failure. But they may become famous in the investment community.

Hi Everyone,

As advised I am trying to learn the basics of crypto first.

Most of the suggestions mention investing in top ranked coins. My question is, does it always work? As far as I understand, the market is vulnerable and affects almost all the coins from top to bottom. How then you determine which ones would stay ?

It is a strategy for those that are not capable of doing a real investment analysis. If you are unknowledgeable and just want some general market exposure then investing in the top coins by market cap or even better a fund that tracks the top coins may be the best strategy. If however you have some skills and are able to determine what will seperate the winners from the losers then investing in the smaller cap coins that are highly undervalued can offer significantly better returns.

You are right the market is always volatile and the top ranked coins can also come down. Have a look at the coinmarketcap on 2016 and you'll see a lot of top coins went down and lost attention from the market.

Though its highly recommende at this moment with those coins because they have higher market cap but it all depends on the development and what that coin's purpose. There are few coins on the top that aren't worth risking your money.

Many times I prefer to convert my rewards into ranking coins, because I don't want my efforts to be wasted, you can say that I am a timid investor!

That's the safest way to invest in this very risky kind of investment. And it should work in a long term basis. Which on would stay? Well, most of the top 20 in the list where also in that position on the previous rankings, year-base. So randomly picking one is not that bad.
