You could say that going to a cinema is also a waste of time and money because you can watch a movie for free in the Internet, or you can buy a dvd for half of the price of your cinema ticket. Nothing is a waste of time as long as you're happy with your results and don't let others tell you what is good or bad or what you should or shouldn't do, because they have different goals and values. We aren't all the same. Your post has nudged me to think of what can be done to make gambling more productive regarding the education. As we all know, there are movies from which we can learn something and there are those intended purely for entertainment. Although we can't be learning all the time and that's why we need the gambling as it is now, to have an opportunity to relax from hard work or from studying, we still can sometimes combine the latter with gambling. Imagine if there were a site where you can learn English, for instance, while gambling. I think such a site could become pretty popular.
